Oak & Rowan class had a fantastic day experiencing an adventure through the world’s oceans on their class trip to Bristol Aquarium last week. Linking to their topic ‘Beside the Seaside’ they also enjoyed a special ‘under the sea’ talk. 😀🐠🐟🐙🦑

👉👩‍🍳Are you currently working in a catering role and looking for a new challenge? Interested in school hours and term time only?🧑‍🍳👈 We are looking for a school cook to join our friendly and committed team. The position is 25hrs a week, Monday to Friday, 9am-2pm. Working for our caterers, Edwards & Ward, you will be responsible for ordering, cooking and serving for approximately 60 meals a day. We enjoyed a lovely afternoon at the Malmesbury Cluster Rounders Festival last week. Well done to all our Y5s who took part for a fantastic team effort...scooping the top spot as tournament winners! 😀🙌👏

Congratulations to all our Oak class stars on their wonderful performance of ‘The Rainbow Fish’ for their first class assembly! We hope all our Oak class parents enjoyed it as much as we did. 😊👏❤️⭐️

Sycamore class had a fun-filled day at the Malmesbury cluster Athletics Games last week, with great performances all round across track and field events. Well done to all our Y6s, as always you were a credit to yourselves and the school. 👏🙌😄

A big thank you to the team at Hobbs House bakery for running a brilliant bread making workshop with Chestnut and Willow Class last week as part of our Anglo Saxon & Viking Day. And yes the bread did taste as good as it looks! 👩‍🍳👨‍🍳🙏🧡

Sports Day 2023 – fun in the sun! Thank you to our families for joining us - we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Well done to all our children for their fantastic throwing, jumping, running, cheering and team spirit! Thanks to the FSS for providing lollies for the children to enjoy, to our parents who provided some much needed shelter and even iced water for the grown-ups!... and to Tea Smart Photography for capturing this special event for us. We are now ready and raring to go for our next all school sporting event on Saturday 1st July – FSS Olympic Day!

Castle Combe Bike Ride 2023 - another fantastic fundraising event organised by our FSS! Thank you team FSS for organising this and to all the riders, scooters, skaters and supporters! 👏👏🚵‍♀️🚵

Sycamore class had a super day in the sunshine at the Y6 Malmesbury cluster Cricket Tournament yesterday – well done to all our Y6s for their great batting, bowling, fielding and team spirit. As always they were a credit to the school and we couldn’t have been prouder. 😄🙌👏🏏

We’ve had a wonderful week learning about Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Hinduism as part of our World Religions theme week. Thank you to Becky Fisher and Revd. Adam Beaumont for our visits to Church of the Holy Cross, Sherston to learn about prayer and spirituality. The children also enjoyed workshops with REonDemand exploring fasting and pilgrimage in Islam and tasting Asian food, learning about the Jewish festival of Hanukkah, the Hindu festival of Diwali and much more. Thank you to Cathy Lightowler from RE on Demand for these inspiring sessions. And thank you to Miss Corrick for organising this week and the FSS for funding it! Wishing everyone a very happy half term break.

A massive thank you to Aaran and the team at the Sherston Co-op for all their incredible support and donations to the school - which have included everything from supplying all the snacks and drinks for the FSS Christmas Movie Night, to mince pies and sellotape for the Christmas Fair...and more! Christmas Lunch 2022! 🥳 A very big thank you to our school chef for a wonderful festive meal and all our TAs for a brilliant job coordinating a smooth lunchtime service as always! And thank you to the FSS for supplying the lovely Christmas tree decoration kits for all the children.🙏👏 🎄

Congratulations to our super swimmers who took part in the Year 5/6 Malmesbury Swimming Gala yesterday, scooping three first places in the individual races and third place overall! 👏🙌🏊‍♀️🥇🥉😊

It was our Year 6 pupils turn to take to the stage this week for their class assembly about Britain’s former empire and diversity in multicultural Britain. Well done to everyone in Sycamore class for their super performances and a great rendition of Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’ on their ukuleles! 👏🙌🎼🎭😊

⭐️🎄🎄🙏A very big thank you to Hortico plant centre in Sherston for donating this lovely Christmas tree to the school from their sustainable plantation – all ready for our Christmas Fair this afternoon! 🙏🎄🎄⭐️

Willow class took to the stage this week for their assembly about Roman society. Well done to each and every one of them for their fantastic performances and beautiful singing!🎭🎼😍👏

Congratulations to all our Year 3, 4, 5 and 6 pupils who took part in the Malmesbury School Cross-Country Festival this week – the weather certainly didn’t dampen their enthusiasm or competitive spirit! And well done to our Y3/4 and Y5/6 boys teams for coming first in their age groups! 😊👏🙌🏃‍♀️🏃

– here’s a little snapshot of what our Early Bird breakfast club children have been enjoying so far this term – as well as the usual arts & crafts activities, games and LEGO creations, they’ve also been learning weaving and making their own books!😊📕 🎨🧩🫶

Happy day! The children have done a fantastic job dressing up their favourite bears in crazy clothes for our ‘Crazy Bear Day’ fundraising. A big thank you to all our families for your donations to our Children in Need fundraising page. 💛❤️💚💙💜

Last week our Y6 pupils took part in Bikeability, the national cycle training programme for children in schools. They completed Bikeability Level 1 & 2 courses, developing their skills and confidence to cycle confidently on the roads. Well done to all of them for their hard work and commitment, and happy cycling! 👏🙌🚴‍♀️🚴

Huge thanks to Sarah Nelson and Joy Smith from Sustainable Sherston who ran a fascinating session all about waste (where it goes, how much it costs and how we can reduce it) with our Y6s today as part of their topic on Climate Change. The class will be rising to the Sustainable Sherston ‘How Low Can You Go?’ Challenge to reduce the amount of waste they put in their bins at home. (Y6 parents - look out for tape coming home today to measure just how much lower they can go at each bin collection!) 👏🙌♻️🌎

Our Y4 pupils had a fantastic time at their PGL residential this week. They enjoyed lots of outdoor adventures from abseiling, aeroball and orienteering, to zip wiring and campfire activities. Highlights included the climbing wall, where all the children challenged themselves and loved it, and archery, where a few budding Robin Hoods were spotted! 😃🙌😍

This week we celebrated 😊Friendship Week.😊 The children played lots of team-building games, decorated their class doors and had circle time activities on the themes of 'resolving conflict', 'what makes a good friend' and 'sharing acts of kindness. Different year groups came together to share books, play board games and outdoor games. We wrapped up the week with a whole school movie on the last day of term and each class came dressed in a 'class colour' to celebrate coming together as a team.❤️💛🧡💙💚

A massive thank you to the FSS and everyone from the wider community 👇👇 involved in organising and running this incredible fundraising event. And huge thanks also to all you quizzers for your support and generosity, which has resulted in the fantastic fundraising total of £1,800+ being raised to support the school. 👏👏👏 😍❤️

FSS Quiz Thank you!!

The FSS held its annual and much loved Quiz night on Saturday evening for the first time since March 2020 and boy was it a good one!
It was great to be able to hold the event at the School and there was a real buzz in the air and a lot of very happy Quizzers!

🏆Successfully defending their title for another year our winners were ‘Agatha Quiztie’ - made up of the quizzing powerhouses Kirsty & Graeme Strachan, Laura Gould & Sally Clayton! 👏🏼

As always there is an army of people that help bring these events together, not only from the FSS but the wider village and community, these events simply wouldn’t happen without you.

⭐️ Thank you to Richard Langley & Kevin Noble who made sure all the tables & chairs were delivered to the school and then returned safely to the Village Hall.

The evening itself was held together by a team of parents, who have given up their time ahead of the Quiz & then their evening to ensure everyone had a great night…so thank you Gemma & Ell Brushneen, Nick & Emily Stavri, Will Roberts, Anna Glassborow & Sammy Knight.
And on Sunday afternoon James Kutchera & Andy Tremellen made their way back to the hall to help clear everything away - thank you so much.

Lastly & by no means least, thank you to each and every one of you that attended the Quiz, it’s your generosity that means we get to raise funds for our village school, these funds help support the school in a variety of ways and for that we are very grateful.

We raised just over £1800!! Thankyou again for your support!

Now onto the next event…..The Christmas Fair🎄

We had a wonderful morning celebrating Harvest Festival in Church this week. Thank you to Becky Fisher for a lovely service. We were treated to Oak and Rowan class performing ‘Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’, along with Harvest prayers from Chestnut class and Harvest poems from Willow class all written by the children. Sycamore class talked about the vital work of the Malmesbury and District Foodbank. Thank you to all our families for donating items for our collection to support this important local charity. 😊👏🫶

What an amazing achievement! Huge thanks to our children and their families, the wider community and of course the FSS for this incredible crab apple collecting effort! 👏👏👏

Drum roll please….. the final total of crab apples collected for Tracklements is….. a whopping 704KG! This is an incredible amount so thank you to everyone who collected over the month of September. Sherston School and Sherston youth groups receive 50p for every KG collected plus a further 25p for every jar sold nationwide. Thank you again! The FSS x
