As the UCAS deadline draws nearer, why not find out more about the range of courses on offer within the Faculty of Health and Social Sciences, including Operating Department Practice, also known as ODP where you can develop the skills to offer coordinated, patient-centred care alongside surgeons, anaesthetists and theatre nurses in a range of settings including operating theatres, emergency departments, intensive care and recovery.

Our brand new state-of-the-art 'Sim Street' provides an immersive set of simulation suites designed to enhance the training of our healthcare students before they go on placement, including an operating theatre for our ODP students.

Our Social Work team are proud to announce that earlier this month two of their social work alumni students won an award at the Social Worker of the Year Awards.

Congratulations to our fantastic alumni Holly Shreeves who completed our Step Up to Social Work course, who took home an award for Newly Qualified Children’s Social Worker of the Year, and Elizabeth Badu, who completed out Social Work Apprenticeship who won the Newly Qualified Adult Social Worker of the Year!

As part of their initiative the School of Applied Social Sciences hosted a celebration of youth work across Bedfordshire aimed at youth work practitioners from a range of settings to come together and celebrate youth work taking place across the county whilst also exploring the future of youth work in light of potential changes to the political landscape from a local and national perspective.

On 10th Oct 2024, for , our and came together for an enriching inter-professional learning day. This successful event aimed to break down barriers between professions, enhance collaborative skills, and ultimately improve patient and service user outcomes.

The event began with introductions and ice-breaker activities focused on professional stereotypes, assumptions and values, helping students to connect and understand each other better.

Students engaged in dynamic case scenario group discussions, emphasising the importance of effective communication, compassion, multi-disciplinary team work and holistic care.

With valuable insights from lecturers, practitioners and experts by experience, the groups explored the benefits, complexities and challenges of inter-professional collaboration.

Last week our Childhood and Youth Studies explored the Young V&A Museum in Bethnal Green 🏛️ The trip was not just a day out but a key part of the course's Narratives unit assessment. 📚 Where students have been tasked to create their own virtual exhibitions featuring three interconnected toys, games, films, or books.
