Through teaching children about all of their neighbours' celebrations and religious traditions in their local community, it can help them to nurture a sense of identity and share commonalities of values with their peers.
We love books as a tool for developing the understanding of different faiths with young children. They capture the imagination and encourage a moment of sit down and calm.
Here are our favourite books for teaching children about Hanukkah:
π The Story of Hanukkah by David Adler
π Hanukkah: The Festival of Lights by Bonnie Badar
π Eight Candles of Light: A Chanukah Story by Jonny Zucker

At N Stoke Newington - Defoe Road, the children have been learning about the Arctic - from the weather to the animals that live there. Through a segmented tray of different materials and textures, the children explored the wintry scene and role-played how it must feel to live in the Arctic. You can try this learning activity at home using cotton snowballs, cubes of ice, flour, and playdough.

N Weybridge has been getting in the festive spirit by going to see Sleeping Beauty, the pantomime! The children were mesmerised by the show - from meeting a prince and princess, seeing a helicopter fly overhead and have a fiery dragon coming towards them! This was an amazing experience for the nursery, and was topped off by a train ride there and back - what lucky children and team!
In our nurseries, we teach and celebrate with the children all religious festivals to deepen their understanding of the cultural landscape that they live in and to nurture a sense of empathy for others' beliefs. Here are some of our favourite learning resources for talking to young children about Christmas.
The cold has crept in, and thereβs nothing quite like the warmth of a hearty winter roast to keep it at bay.

At N, we understand the importance of our nurseries in a community. At N Cobham, the children are regularly taken to visit a local care home where cross-generational relationships are founded and nurtured.
The children are encouraged to do art activities with the residents and to talk to them about what they are learning and their day. It is wonderful to see companionship being formed, and it demonstrates the positive impact that children can have on the older generation.
