Hi! Do you know what a mission statement is? I'm sure you do, but could you define it? Do you know the difference between a good one and a bad one? What should they include? Well, for the CIMA E syllabus' and the ACCA F9 course you would need to know! So we at Astranti have decided to be really kind and made you a video that explains all about it, that should really help with your revision!

I loved this infographic on data biasis, and I've got a question for you! Which of these have you seen happen at work?

The one I remember from my days as an auditor was sampling bias. Lots of auditors (not me of course!!) would choose the sample items they knew were easy to test, or which wouldn't throw up any issues. As a result the test was a complete waste of time, but as long as it was evidenced and it appeared random then we would get away with it!

So, which of these have you seen at work? I'd love to hear your comments below if you'd like to share.

'An apple a day, keeps the doctor away' is a saying that you may have heard a few times in your life. But did you know that an avocado, orange, broccoli, aubergine or preferably all five could do the trick too?

Getting your five a day is a well known tip, but it can make all the difference! Fruit and vegetables contain a whole variety of vitamins and minerals to make you feel at your very best - and exam ready!

It's not exactly an easy choice, but choosing carrots over chips or satsuma's over sundaes could take you one leap forward to getting that pass!

I've long tried to keep fit and occasionally I go on a diet to lose a bit of weight. One thing that I notice is that I keep going well completely on track with my diet until the day that temptation gets too much for me and I give in. I'll have that bar of chocolate, plate of chips or a few too many glasses of wine.

What happens next is interesting. One bar of chocolate leads to another and another or indeed something else which is less good for me. Intentions to start again the next day sometimes work, but ,as often as not, the next day is just as bad. Breaking the good habits just once was enough to completely derail me.

The same is true with my exercise program - when I have a regmimented progammme of exercising on certain days to do certain activities I stick to it well, but as soon as I give up for a few days it's really hard to get back into it.

The key is to have a set regime and stick to it. Never waivering from those plans.

So, what does this mean for you and your studies? Well, studies are just the same as eating or exercise. It's critical to have a plan and then stick to it - even when you're not feeling like it. In the long run, making studying a must do event will ensure you do more work and make you MUCH more likely to PASS YOUR EXAMS.

Last minute jitters before the big day? No, you aren't getting married (at least, I don't think you are...). Iโ€™m talking about exam day! Sometimes, even though youโ€™ve done as much revision as possible and feel fairly confident about the exam itself, you can still feel a bit nervous the night before exam day. Although this is completely natural, here are a few tips on how to get over some of the anxiety and make sure youโ€™re at your best once youโ€™re sat down ready to take the exam.

First of all, make sure you eat and drink well! Even though the thought of an exam is likely to put you off doing normal, day-to-day tasks like having breakfast, itโ€™s important that you keep on top on these activities so that you donโ€™t go into the exam feeling listless. Eating something healthy, like a piece of fruit, wonโ€™t only keep the doctor away but also place in the right frame of mind for the long slog of a two hour exam.

Another to be aware of is how much sleep youโ€™re getting. Revision, unlike working to a deadline, is not something you should pull an all-nighter on! Getting at least eight hours of sleep a night should stand you in good stead when it comes to both revising the content and remembering it in exam conditions.

Although we here at Astranti canโ€™t help you maintain a healthy lifestyle (although we would if we could), we can help you find all the resources youโ€™ll need to succeed in your exams. Just what the doctor orderedโ€ฆ.

As you probably already know, revision needs to be precise and concise. So, what better way to revise than using revision cards? However, they can very easily be misused, so here are a few ways you can make sure that whatโ€™s written on your revision cards stays in your head on exam-day.

Take a look at these tips from WikiHow on how to use revision cards effectively. Each point is useful in its own way, but the main takeaway is surely to make the process as fun and creative as possible. Regardless of whether mnemonics or rhyming phrases are your thing, or if youโ€™d prefer making your formulas a work of art, youโ€™ll surely be able to find something here which will suit your method of revising.

Or you could do the smart thing, and simply look through some of our very own Astranti revision notes coming soon to a computer screen near you. As always, we do the work so you donโ€™t have toโ€ฆ

When youโ€™re in the exam room, the last thing you want to think about is a highly complex exam strategy! However, having a clear and methodical approach to answering exam questions will undoubtedly help you come out of the exam with the best mark possible.

Take a look at this article about exam-day strategies. Possibly one of the most important pieces of advice it gives is to identify the key words in questions. Identifying these key words on your first reading of the question will mean that you are sure of whatโ€™s going on, and will be able to identify more easily the correct answer of the choices you are given. Also make sure to be careful when youโ€™re choosing your answer to a given question. By knowing what the question is addressing, you should be able to rule out any obviously incorrect options, leaving you either with the right answer (the best case scenario!) or answers which could all plausibly be correct. Taking an educated guess on a question is, as the article makes clear, better than not answering it at all!

Of course, who needs educated guesses when youโ€™ve got plenty of time to look over your Astranti study text and make sure that, on exam day, youโ€™ve got all the answers right at your fingertips?

Life is full of distractions โ€“ the TV, the Internet, an invitation to go out of an evening! These are inconvenient at the best of times, but when youโ€™re supposed to be revising for your exams these distractions become even moreโ€ฆ distracting!

Although thereโ€™s not much you can do to prevent the lure of a night out, you can quite simply minimise the distractions caused by your good friend, the computer. This is especially important when revising for your CIMA Objective Tests, as you'll most likely be looking at your Astranti revision resources online!

Take a look at this article from The Guardian about the best add-ons you can use to block websites you find particularly distracting. There are a number of these you can use to block these websites (Facebook, anyone?), and they can truly be invaluable when youโ€™re not sure whether you should be re-reading your Astranti study text or checking up on whose relationship status has changed!

So shut down Facebook and Twitter, and get back to your study texts (conveniently found below). Trust us, itโ€™ll be worth it in the long run.

Practice makes perfectโ€ฆ And nowhere is this maxim more appropriate than when revising for exams! Many of you will be revising for your Case Study exams at the moment, while many more of you will be focusing on your Objective Tests.

As Iโ€™m sure youโ€™ll already know, the only way to truly master your exam performance is by making sure you get enough practice beforehand. Take a look at this article from The Guardian, which goes into some depth about the benefits of completing mock exams before the big day itself. The article highlights how mock exams are excellent for allowing students to practise revision techniques and strategies they have come up with. If you, as students, find you canโ€™t remember the content in these conditions, then it should give you the chance to change tack well in advance of the exam itself, which should help you avoid any disasters on the day!

Of course, mock exams arenโ€™t everything (it helps if you know the content youโ€™re going to be tested on, tooโ€ฆ). But they can help you cap off your revision so to speak, bringing together all the different elements of the content youโ€™ve revised so that you can put your revision strategies to the test.

And whatโ€™s more, we here at Astranti provide you with practice questions and mock exams alongside the study texts youโ€™ve already been poring over. Perfect. Now, start practising...

It's all too easy to get distracted when you are revising! Suddenly it may become very important to tidy your room, start training for a marathon cat videos.

They may look cute, but these cat videos (and other distractions - I'm looking at you television) can prove deadly for your revision time. The solution? Print out your study materials, switch of all technology and make sure that you've hit your revision targets. A good aim is an hour and a half a day of just you and your revision materials - but it's great if you can do more!

Need to use the computer? A neat little tip is to find a program that temporarily blocks off access to everything, apart from the sites that you need for revision - which is the Astranti site, of course! There are also apps for your phone, too, which I would definitely recommend if you are prone to procrastination.

Don't worry, though - your feline friends will still be around for entertainment... but only after you have finished your revision!
Happy studying everyone!

RTFQ, then ATFQ. No, I havenโ€™t started communicating in code! Iโ€™ve just given you perhaps the most important piece of advice for anyone sitting an exam, regardless of what type of exam it is.

Take a look at these comments about the ACCA exams (study texts and other resources coming to an Astranti website near you in 2018). Although this particular advice covers written exams, it is absolutely crucial you follow these rules for any type of exam, even the multiple choice exams youโ€™ll be taking at Certificate level and for your objective tests at later stages in your CIMA journey.

Reading the full question, and then answering the full question (there is an alternative way to decode the acronym that isnโ€™t publishable hereโ€ฆ), will ensure that you achieve full marks on your exams. This is especially important for multiple choice questions, where the examiners will deliberately include additional nuggets of detail which may or may not be relevant to the question you are asked. If you donโ€™t read the full question (and best to do it twice, maybe even three times!), then you simply wonโ€™t answer the full question, meaning youโ€™re far more likely to get the answer wrong.

So, RTFQ, and ATFQ. And you might do well to RTFST as well (read the full study text, for those of you who arenโ€™t good with acronymsโ€ฆ).
