It’s fair to say some slept better than others 🀣 but all enjoyed a good breakfast on a beautiful morning for a range of different activities today.
Giant Swing, Vertical Challenge, Sensory Trail, Archery, Camp Fire Stories and a big hearty meal. A really busy but enjoyable first day. Uplowman Primary School
Two Willow pupils will be proud to be representing Halberton Primary School when they take on the Exmoor challenge on 30th April. They will be doing a 16 mile hike across Exmoor with children from Uplowman Primary School. They will be in groups of 4 navigating on their own with a map and a compass and lots of snacks!
They have been training hard for this challenge and have raised over Β£200 for Children’s Hospice South West. πŸ’« πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈ πŸšΆβ€β™‚οΈ 🧭 πŸ—Ί We wish them lots of luck!

Year 1 and Year 2 had a visitor this afternoon - Kate from Tiverton Museum. We learned about John Heathcoat and his factory in the past, as well as the factory today. Did you know that John Heathcoat is significant both for his use of machines to create fabrics such as lace, but also because he provided homes for his workers, trips to the seaside and a school for the children? His school was opened at around the same time as Halberton! Kate brought lots of dressing up for us to explore...

Thank you also to Mrs Harvie for the modern day Heathcoat's Factory 'merch'! πŸ’«

So today we bid farewell to our amazing Year 6 children. We shared a Leavers’ Service with a theme of being thankful - thank you to Robin and Rev Glyn for leading this - and we celebrated as we found out the recipient of the Rotary Club’s Unsung Hero Award. This was followed by a Leavers’ BBQ in the wildlife area. We wish so much luck to these 10 superstars! We will miss you but we wish you all the best. 🌟

What a wonderful day at Backswood Farm! We discovered wild flowers and trees, and learned much about how plants and wild animals are connected. Thank you to Farmer Andrew (who owns and built the garden), Farmer Emma and Farmlink for helping us to explore the natural world. Thank you so much to our parents who taxi-ed, the parents who supported us, and HSPPA for funding us. We look forward to visiting again! 🌸🌼🌺

Sometimes it’s good to find time to reflect, to be still and to be quiet and we have some nice spots around the school to find some peace.

Thank you to our community for all of the love and support this week.

It was an exciting day for the children as the chicks we incubated and hatched a few weeks ago came back for a visit.
The whole school had the opportunity to visit them and our Acorn β€˜chicken farmers’ were allowed to handle and stoke them.
Thank you Mr Diggle for letting us see the next part of their life cycle. 🐣πŸ₯ πŸ“

We are so saddened to share the devastating news that sadly our beloved Mr Lough died this morning. He died peacefully at home as he hoped.

We had learned a few days ago that his cancer had spread but even though we knew this, his passing this morning has still shocked us all and left everyone reeling.

Our thoughts of course are with Richard’s family: his partner Sarah, and their children Lauren and Alexander of whom him he always spoke with such love and pride.

Richard was a wonderful man; he was a brilliant teacher and he truly loved the children he taught and they loved him equally in return. He took such joy in their achievements and even though he stopped working in the Autumn Term, he still was so pleased to hear about how well the children were doing afterwards. His face would light up whenever he spoke about them. He was so animated, so full of joy and fun and made every lesson an adventure for the children he cherished and worked so hard for.

He was such an integral part of Halberton School and there will be reminders of him everywhere. His Tiverton Town FC sticker remains and will remain in his classroom. He was always positive, fun and up for a laugh and so enthusiastic and such a lovely big character that it just is so hard to imagine he is no longer with us. We will always miss him and never forget him.

Acorn class have had a fantastic day at Tiverton museum. We got the experience to be really hands on with lots of toys - some of them were over 100 years old!! And the highlight for lots of us - going inside the Tivvy Bumper. The children had a fantastic day and were really well behaved.

Tomorrow you will getting a leaflet showing you some exciting activities taking place at the museum over the summer holidays. As well as this, each child will get a voucher to allow accompanying adults to go to the museum for half price (accompanied children go free!)

Ted came to visit Bramble class today. He is being cared for by CHAT (chatmid.org), who are helping him to help himself. We know that he needs a home, food, drink and love, just like his hero... Paddington Bear! We will be raising money for CHAT, so that they can continue to help people to help themselves. Your teddy bear (or another creature!) is welcome to sleep over at school on the 30th June and you are welcome to wear your pyjamas to school on the 1st July! ☺️❀️

Bramble Class Forest School fun today:
Have you ever met a stickosaurus? We listened to the story of Stanley's Stick (by John Hegley) and tried to work as a whole class team to make a stickosaurus. It was hard! We had to communicate. We also made some sticky objects using craft resources. πŸͺ΅ 🌳
