Each Year 6 class have had the opportunity to attend a 4-week maths club run by our Maths Champion Mrs Roberts. The idea of the club was to foster a ‘love of maths’ and demonstrate how maths can be interesting and exciting!

In total, almost 70 children across the year group participated.

Our activities included the following:
Week 1: Now Press Play - Mental Maths through an interactive story
Week 2: Puzzle week – Sudoku, Nerdle (Wordle with numbers!) Tower of Hanoi, Car Park puzzle and many more.
Week 3: Escape room challenge week – problem solving in a range of contexts
Week 4: Kahoot Week - an interactive quiz

There has been lots of excitement each week and it has been a delight to see so many children enjoying Maths!

Over the last few weeks, Year 4 classes have been visiting St. Philip's Church for an Easter experience. They have taken part in an exciting range of activities, which took them through the events of holy week, all organised and presented by Jo, Julie and the team. We are so grateful for the deep thinking and learning opportunities they provided us with. We have also been hugely impressed with the engagement of the pupils in all three classes.

We were pleased to welcome Freshwater Theatre Company into school yesterday to work with year 4 to put on a 'production' in French of Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk. The children found it entertaining and funny.... and we have some budding actors in year 4 too! Well done to all the children for getting involved and some for being bold enough to take part in the production.... whilst speaking in French too!

Singing In The Halls 2024 - Hall Of Fame 08/03/2024

In May we will be taking all Year 4 pupils to sing in The Halls’ in Wolverhampton city centre. ‘Singing in the halls’ is a new opportunity from Wolverhampton music school and Uplands has signed up. The idea is that pupils in schools across the city all learn the same songs and then join together as a massed choir. Songs will be learnt in lessons but also in the Thursday lunchtime singing club run by myself. We will look to engage in this opportunity every year. School will be funding all transport

The Rights Ambassadors chose Article 2: Non discrimination as March's Right of the month to coincide with International Women's Day. They have shared a presentation on gender equality with their classes and are encouraging pupils to draw and write about women they admire. Ambassador Erin in Year 3 brought in some lovely books to show her class which champion strong role models for girls.
The clip below sparked a lot of discussion in classes about gender stereotyping.
