We currently have two vacancies at Newport Infant School and Nursery. One vacancy is for a Level 3 Nursery and Wraparound Care Practitioner to work Monday-Friday 7.45am – 9.00am and 2.45pm – 6.00pm. 22.5 hours per week, to start asap.

The other vacancy is for an Unqualified Out of School Care Practitioner to work Monday-Friday 2.45pm – 5.30pm. 13.75 hours per week, to start asap.

Due to the extreme weather, there will only be a cold lunch option tomorrow in school.

The children will have the opportunity to select their sandwich preferred sandwich filling and will then have additional items such as cucumber, fruit, yogurt and either a biscuit or ice cream.

This decision has been based on guidance from Telford and Wrekin about the impact that the ovens have on the temperature of the school building and Government advice to eat more cold food during the heatwave.

We anticipate a return to the normal menu on Wednesday when the intense heat subsides.

Good Morning,

As you are all aware we are expecting to be experiencing a heat wave over the next couple of days. I wanted to inform you of the steps we are taking to make the children more comfortable and to keep safe in the high temperatures. These measures come from advice from gov.uk and the NHS:

- opening windows as soon as staff are in the setting
- closing windows when the temperature inside exceeds that of outside
- using fans when the temperature is under 30oc - use of fans over this temperature is not recommended
- avoiding the use of electronics. Computers will not be left in stand-by and will be switched off when unused to avoid extra heat
- having water available in rooms constantly,
- only allowing children to play outdoors for 20 mins in the shade
- moving to rooms if possible when temperatures in room become unbearable and above 30oc
- not participating in vigorous activity (eg running/sports)

We ask parents to support us by:

- ensuring your child has a drink bottle
- applying suncream before coming to nursery
- placing your child in light and airy clothing

All staff are being advised of what symptoms of heat stroke look like and what needs to happen if a child is suspected of suffering from the effects of heat exposure. I am aware that some parents have already expressed a want to keep their child off during these hot spells. Please let us know if your child will be off just so that we know where your child is.

After school club were busy last night making yummy fruit kebabs! The children spoke about which fruits they've tried before and which were their favourites!

🎉🎉🎉It’s Carnival day!!!!!! 🎉🎉🎉

We are so exited to be sharing this day with all our families. We can’t wait to see all the parents and children dressed up for the procession.

All the children have worked so hard learning the words to “we will rock you” 🕺

After school club loved making rainbow pizzas tonight.. they chose from a variety of toppings and spoke about why they liked each one! 🍕🌈

A big thank you to everyone who has worn blue and yellow to support Ukraine today, we raised a wonderful £24!

This afternoon we decorated biscuits in the Ukraine flag colours using icing and bananas. We practiced safely cutting up bananas and spreading the icing.

Letters about our Easter bonnet parade will be going out this week and if you would like to join us, there is a form to return on the back of the letter. There's a worm at the bottom of the garden..

This week we have been exploring all things worms! We have discovered lots of interesting facts and read the story 'Superworm' 📖

The children had lots of fun creating our very own wormery and helped to dig for worms.

At Forest School the children used natural items to make a super long worm! 🍂

In the maths area, the children looked at long and short toy worms and practiced rolling playdough to make longer and shorter ones 📏

We finished our worm week by making 'muddy worm' crispy cakes, using chocolate, rice krispies and strawberry laces 🍫

Next week we are looking at butterflies and caterpillars, using the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar 🐛🦋

We have had a super time thanks to Superworm! We have listened to the story of Superworm by Julia Donaldson to kick start our week on worms. We had lots of wormy activities and had so much fun learning through play in our developed outdoor area!

We made a wormery and talked about how to take care of worms. We will continue this tomorrow and talk about the features and characteristic of the wiggly worm.

We have been busy learning about slugs and snails this week which has included reading 'Norman, the slug with the silly shell.'

We created our own shell designs using cd's and sparkly materials. Don't they look amazing!

This afternoon we practiced our gross motor movements and mark making by making snail and slug trails and swirly whirly shells! 🐚

At Forest School we found lots of snails hiding under the logs!

We invite everyone to wear Red and donate £1 on Friday 18th March for Red Nose Day.

🥞 P A N C A K E D A Y 🥞

We've had lots of fun celebrating Pancake Day today! We watched a slideshow explaining why it is celebrated and then got the chance to try some ourselves! They were very yummy!

The children practiced mark making in the 'pancake batter' gloop and got very sticky!

We used different resources to transport the lemons in the water tray and used playdough to flip pancakes!

We will be having lots of messy activities this week, please can you ensure your child has a change of clothes in their bag. Thank you.

We’ve continued our Valentine’s theme today and focussed our activities around the nursery rhyme “The Queen of Hearts”

The children made play dough jam tarts, acted out the nursery rhyme, made the queen of hearts and king of heart’s crown, explored the queen suit of cards and had some fun dinosaur play because they love too! ❤️

We developed our gross motor skills doing large arm movements and dancing to “Kings and Queens” by KidzBop.

We had so much fun making real jam tarts too!!

Today we have explored why we celebrate Valentine's Day and spoke about who we love! 💓

There were lots of creative opportunities including the very popular chocolate and flower shop where the children wrapped and 'sold' the products to their friends 💐🍫

In the fine motor areas the children were able to practice making patterns in the sand and using tweezers to move pom poms 🔴

We matched numbers to amounts in the maths area, using sparkly heart gems 💗

We had lots of fun exploring the chocolate scented playdough, rolling it out and making 'chocolates' for the chocolate boxes 🍫

After school club have been very busy this week - our focus has been 'feelings' to coincide with Children's Mental Health week and the children have thought about what they love about themselves and others 💭

They have also baked and decorated biscuits and made cards for Valentine's Day 💕

We also made lollipop butterflies where the children were able to cut out their own design and decorate them 🦋

We used shrink plastic to make badges and keyrings which the children loved!

We are continuing our ‘Fantastic foods’ topic with the story of ‘The Gingerbread Man’. Today we took part in a fascinating science experiment where we put gingerbread into different substances to observe the effects that liquid had on the gingerbread. We were on the look out for a change in shape, size and whether or not the gingerbread were still hard and crunchy or soft. We explored the change of textures in a tuft tray 🙂

We have lots of lost property including clothes, hats, gloves, scalves and bottles. We will put the boxes outside the nursery ramp tomorrow for you to have a look through. Thank you.

To continue our gingerbread man topic, this afternoon the children helped to make some yummy gingerbread men! They practiced pouring, mixing and stirring and then rolled out the dough and used the cutter to stamp out their biscuit. 👩🏻‍🍳

The children have enjoyed learning about how people celebrate Chinese New Year and have been very creative! 🖌

We made dragons using card and sticks and the children drew faces at the front 🐉

We continued to practice our fine motor skills by colouring and tracing tiger pictures 🐅

Outside the children explored the colour red and hunted to see how many red things they could find 🔴

We have enjoyed trying some yummy Chinese food and the children used words such as "crunchy" and "sour" 🍜

We practiced some dragon dancing using our dragon costume, listening to all the different sounds of the instruments 💃🏻🥁
