By far, the most popular therapies I offer are hot stone massage and pregnancy massage. They are both incredibly nourishing and restorative. Back massages are around 25 minutes and full body massages around 55 minutes. Time to book in?

Get in to Nature - Look after you
Although we are now past the darkest days in the wheel of the year, January can feel dark and long. In the past I have felt ’lost’ in January, recovering from the last year and festivities, but lacking in energy to get back to feeling myself. Ambling from day to day, waiting for the longer days and warmer weather. I now know that I need to make sure I feel the joy in January by getting out the door and in to nature as often as possible. Look out for the early signs of new life as snowdrops and even daffodils start to appear. Look to the trees, can you see the new buds appearing yet? Take time to find the joy this month ❤️🌱

Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS)
This condition is thought to affect 1 in 10 women, with half not having apparent symptoms. The exact cause is unknown but it seems to run in families. Polycystic ovaries contain follicles that are underdeveloped sacs which eggs develop in. The sacs are often unable to release the egg which means ovulation doesn’t happen. Symptoms are usually apparent in late teens and early 20s and can include irregular periods, infertility, excessive hair growth or thinning, weight gain and oily skin. The symptoms can often be treated and should be investigated by your GP.

A note on where I obtained my data
Alongside the NHS website (https://www.nhs.uk) which is a good resource I also obtained data from the Women’s Health Concern (WHC), established in 1972 and the patient arm of the BMS since 2012. WHC provides a confidential, independent service to advise, inform and reassure women about their gynaecological, s*xual and post reproductive health. I researched this subject in October 2022 for the purposes of raising awareness only, not to offer any kind of opinion or diagnosis. If you have any concerns at all you must contact your GP or properly certified Healthcare Specialist without delay.
A note on the term ‘woman’
The over arching term I have used for the purposes of this ‘raising awareness’ series refers to ANY and ALL people it may anatomically apply to regardless of gender labels, stereotypes and boxes. I have been quite uncomfortable using the term ‘woman’ as it’s not just cis women who have these potential problems, of course. But, as I am not referring to any assigned male at birth s*xual health issues in this short information awareness series I needed to try to find an encompassing term and I hope the reader understands.

Every year I am grateful and humbled by my clients. This year is no exception and I want to thank you all for the kindness and love that you bring with you each time I see you. My job really is a joy and I am so thankful to be able to do it.
I’m back in on 4th January with more hours available so if you haven’t booked in for a while, get in touch and prioritise your self care in 2023.
Looking forward to seeing you in 2023 and wishing you a peace-filled Christmas and New Year. All my love to you. Janine xx

Oh how I love it when your muscles crunch 😂 Don’t be alarmed by the ‘crunchy bits’ which are often located around your scapula. They are just muscle fibres that stick together instead of being flexible and they can contract into these crunchy knotty bits. As you know, posture, being too sedate, hydration, work, stress and so on contributes to the delectable crunch or popping sensation. Drink the water 💦 get going with the yoga 🧘🏻♀️ or exercise 💪🏻 to stay flexible and allow the crunchy bits to relax. Of course, a good massage 💆♀️ helps a lot!

Pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS)
PMS affects many women in their day to day life and is the result of the symptoms related to the menstrual cycle. Changes in mood, pain, bloating, breast tenderness, hormonal skin changes are some of the symptoms. For a proportion of women the effects can be extremely debilitating and should be investigated as there may be clinical interventions available to ease the symptoms. There are some lifestyle changes and complimentary medicine interventions that may also help including acupuncture and supplements.

Know that whatever you tell me in the therapy room stays in the therapy room. I care very much about how you feel so I will ask you how you are, and that doesn’t just mean physically. I know you are vulnerable when you are lying on the table and that for some this is the only safe space you can be vulnerable and offload. I hold a privileged confidante position which I deeply honour. You are safe. ❤️

Endometriosis
Endometriosis can effect women of any age including teenagers. Some symptoms are pain in the lower tummy, period pain, pain during or after s*x, heavy periods but symptoms do vary. One of the main complications of endometriosis can be infertility which can be a life changing diagnosis. But there is help available and if you feel you have these symptoms do get it investigated.

Breast care and breast cancer
About 1 in 8 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and there is a good chance of recovery if detected early. The encouraging news is that most breast lumps are not cancerous. However, all changes to breast tissue should be checked at the earliest opportunity by your GP who can then refer for investigation. You should be automatically invited for screening every three years between the ages of 50 and 71. This applies to all people who were assigned female at birth (AFAB) Also, if you are considered high risk under the age of 50, you should also be invited for screening earlier. If you feel this may apply to you, do contact your GP to investigate.
