Hope all the St Georges WI members are well. We need your help for a project on the square.

Can anyone donate some red wool or if you have time crochet these beautiful poppies to help celebrate 11th November 2020?

Look at what has been achieved so far. If anyone is feeling extra creative we have lots of spare pebbles to share for painting with friends and family.

Please get in touch if you want to get involved and / or can help ๐ŸŒบโค๏ธ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Hi Ladies, would it be OK to post this on your page, if not please delete

As part of the 'show the love' campaign, we are collecting green knitted/crochet hearts in order to create a yarn bomb so could we request that you all get your needles and hooks hot with as many as possible before February (sitting by the fire after Christmas dinner, on your post Christmas cruise, they are quick and easy and take up minimal space).
Please get involved in this worthwhile cause

here are a few examples of patterns to get you started

St George's W.I. gives a warm welcome to visitors and prospective members. We take part in events outside of the meetings to raise money for local charities.

We hold monthly meetings which compromise of business, a talk or demonstration & competition.

Ladies I've been asked for some help. My step daughter works in special care baby unit at Newcross, where they take babies from 22 weeks gestation. When babies are taken from their mothers they are each given a small knitted square. The mother puts hers in her bra and the other goes under the baby. Each time they meet they swap squares. This helps and comforts the baby as they can smell their Mummy and helps the mummy who can also smell her baby. The squares are about 10cm square and they are running out quickly. If anyone can help they'd be very grateful xx

A brilliant night at St Georges WI craft night making some gorgeous table centre pieces. Thank you to all who attended and helped and a special thankyou to Pat for her help and guidance

Yet another great evening at WI. It was our Christmas celebration get together on Wed Dec 4th . We all had a fantastic evening with amazing food. The entertainment consisted of poems and ditties read by members and Goldilocks and the 3 bears was performed by 5 of the members. Many laughs ensued especially with Goldilocks hair and yellow socks. Overall everyone had a great evening. 30/09/2019

Look out for our upcoming report on food poverty in Septemberโ€™s WI Life, arriving with you next week. The six-page feature includes stories from WI members who have both experienced food poverty and volunteered at or donated to local food banks.

In April this year, The Trussell Trust reported that food bank visits had jumped by 73 per cent in the last five years. It gave out a record 1.6 million food parcels between April 2018 and March 2019.

Our Food Matters campaign is calling for an end to food poverty in the UK. Visit our website to download our food poverty toolkit:

16 September is WI Day!

On 16 September 1915, the first WI meeting in Britain took place at Llanfair PG, on Anglesey, North Wales, making this yearโ€™s WI Day our 104th birthday!

To celebrate, we are asking WI members to tell us what the WI means to them.

If you would like to take part, complete the sentence โ€˜The WI isโ€ฆโ€™ and share your answer on social media using the hashtag . We would welcome answers from all members, whether in groups or as individuals!

On 16 September, share a selfie with your answer on a piece of paper or simply write your answer in your post.

If you do not have a social media account you would like to share it on, you can email us your answer beforehand at [email protected] and we will share your photos/ answers off the NFWIโ€™s account on 16 September.

Here is an example, however, please be as creative as you like and you can scribble it down on a piece of paper, it doesnโ€™t need to be printed. This template can be downloaded from My WI:

Letโ€™s try and get trending!

I really need someone to take this on or I will have to close it. It would be a shame as it has proven successful in attracting new members.

St George's WI is looking for one of its members to take over the admin of their page. Any of you good ladies up for the challenge? PM if you are interested.

Do you know these facts about the Ironbridge? ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿป

It was the first structure in the world made from cast iron. โœจ

The gorge, in which the Ironbridge was built, was formed in the ice age. โ„๏ธ

Until 1950, everyone had to pay a toll to cross - even the queen! ๐Ÿ‘ธ๐Ÿผ

Itโ€™s not just humans that have crossed the bridge, an elephant has too! ๐Ÿ˜
