NerrolsSchool on Twitter “An enormous thank you to ! They have provided our children with fresh fruit and veg for their snacks, a wheelbarrow for their gardening and a selection of wonderful books for our library! Amazing! 🌟🌟”
NerrolsSchool on Twitter “What a lovely way to start the day! Head teacher’s Award for Margo this morning. Three pages of super writing about the gingerbread man with excellent use of her phonics! My favourite part was when the fox tossed him into the air and gobbled him up. Well done Margo! 🌟”
NerrolsOak on Twitter “Can you guess what we are busy making today? It’s linked to our class story this week - We’re going on a bear hunt!”

Playing with blocks helps children develop their vocabularies, improves math skills and teaches them all about gravity, balance and geometry. It's also a great way to learn all about size, shape, weight, leverage and balance. All that in a few colourful cubes!
Sometimes the most unconventional teaching tools can be the most interesting for children. Using cocktail sticks and marshmallows to explore shapes proved to be a big success. Or maybe it was because they got to eat them afterwards....
Working in groups is always fun. It encourages teamwork, collaboration, good communication and kindness to others. It's part of a variety of teaching methods we use; including whole class, group and individual teaching appropriate the needs of the children.
NerrolsOak on Twitter “This is us in number order. 29 and 16 helped us to make sure we were in the correct order using our place value.”
Our school mascot Cheddy the Teddy is really looking forward to helping with the new raised flower beds in the spring. In the meantime she's practising her gardening skills on Mrs Locker's cactus. Let's hope it survives the attention!
The cosy reading corner has some feline friends to keep the children company. Year 1 and 2 pupils have also added some of their own illustrations, inspired by the books they've been reading.
World Book Day 2020! Thank you very much to all our parents and carers! We’ve had such a lovely day! 📚
Have you spotted where Cheddy the Teddy likes to hang out? She can be seen most mornings watching the children arrive. Her favourite place to sit is on the window sill in Mrs Locker's office, so she can keep an eye on all the comings and goings. Cheddy also likes to settle down to a good book when you are all in lessons.
Max has left a lovely space to start his story. But where to begin?!
Our head teacher Mrs Locker is in the County Gazette twice this week! 👏 👏
Oak Class has been doing some brilliant independent maths learning, answering the addition questions in lots of different ways!
Rhian Locker, headteacher of Nerrols Primary School which recently campaigned for better measures to tackle speeding drivers outside schools, said: “I am so pleased to hear the council is taking this seriously.”
Fears council is 'faking' concern for children as schools welcome 20mph advisory speed zones PLANS to install advisory 20mph limits outside schools across Somerset have been criticised for not going far enough to protect children.
Here's a fun way to experiment with spelling and the alphabet. Hugo seems stuck on which letter to chose next though!

Paper chains aren't just for Christmas! These numbered versions are fantastic way to learn simple maths skills and sequencing. It also helps to identify and sort out either odd or even numbers.

Some impressive maths skills going on here! Great to see some good team work too.
Each week Mrs Locker features some of the children’s best work in frames in her office. She had lots of praise for Callum, who has been working so hard on his writing. Great work!🌟
The highlight of Mrs Locker’s day today was a visit from Thomas and Shevonne, who have both done some amazing writing about Jack Frost! 🌟Well done! 🌟🌟
We're all looking forward to the spring, when we can get out in our new garden and see what's growing. There are also plans for a sensory garden, a greenhouse and a composter. Eventually we even hope to grow and eat our own veg!
We think this is a pretty creative bird feeder! We make these in class using with any leftover fruit or other food suitable for birds. They are bound to enjoy this one!
Well this generated a lot of excitement! We recently made a bug hotel, which hopefully will have some interesting residents very soon. Part of our aim to interest children in the world around them and to get them exploring the outdoors as much as possible.
Our local Police Community Support Officer Sam Bushen recently popped in to say hello. The children had lots of interesting questions to ask him! Thank you Sam for taking the time to visit.
Cheddy the Teddy's chef letters! Cheddy writes a letter to Oak Class each week and sits in the cookery room holding her letter ready for us to arrive. When we have food designs to make, we write shopping lists for Cheddy and she buys our ingredients.
By the age of five or six, children’s finger muscles are well developed and strong enough to grip a pencil correctly. You may notice that your child switches around, using different grips as they are writing. As well as this sort of practise, we help them by doing fun activities to develop their hand and finger muscles such as playing with blocks or doing puzzles.
We love messy play! It helps children to understand their senses by exploring how things feel, smell and taste. This type of play also nurtures an awareness and understanding of the world that surrounds them.
That's a very scary mask, girls! We've spotted a bug, a dog and possibly a rabbit lurking on there?
We want the children of Nerrols Primary School to develop lively and enquiring minds and to acquire knowledge and skills relevant to a fast changing world. We are eager to work in partnership with families and the local community to support our children, enabling them to develop and flourish, fulfilling their potential at school and in life as citizens of the world.
