At our Cranleigh site today in Little Pre School, we are looking at sounds and what different sounds we can hear and make. 🎶🎵

We had a sensory sounds spot tray for the children to explore, using different resources and materials to make different sounds. We had chains and rattle balls, pegs to make snapping noises and tins and spoons to make loud noises.

We also had a music spot tray where the children could explore and make lots of different music and lots and lots of noises, using the drums, the rattles and the pots and pans. It was definitely a noisy morning! 🎼🎹🥁

The children then got to explore the edible sounds tray, using mashers and spoons to listen to the crunching sounds of the cereals. 🥄🥄

At our Cranleigh site this week in Little Pre School, we have been looking at colours and had lots of fun activities linked to this theme. ❤️🧡💛💜💙

The children had a dinosaur creative activity where they painted the dinosaurs feet and stamped them onto the paper to create footprints, using the primary colours. We spoke about what marks we could see and some of our children named the dinosaurs we used 🦖🦕

We also had our own fruit and vegetable shop where the child used real fruit and veg to sell to their friends. We spoke about what food we had and used our imagination to create shop games with our friends, asking for money to pay for the food and counted how much money we had in our bags. 🥦🍋💷

The children got to explore lots of coloured sensory play, with red rice and cars to a blue beach scene. They used their gross motor skills to scoop and transfer rice into the back of the cars and they used their imagination and language to talk about the animals they could see and play with the happyland people in the sand. 👦🧒🏼🐳🚖

At our Cranleigh site today in Big Pre school, we have been looking at dinosaur eggs. 🥚 The children explored a dinosaur zone where we had trees and different numbered dinosaur eggs. The children taught one of their teachers the names of the different dinosaurs 🦖 🦕.
We then extended this activity by having play dough mats for the children to practice creating the different numbers, they learnt how to roll the dough into a sausage shape then manipulate the dough around each number. 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣
We created some lovely dinosaur egg pictures using different creative materials and spoke about how each egg would be different. We then extended this by having a spot tray with nest making material and pictures of different bird eggs. 🪺 One of our friends has been asking to go bird watching so this links in with his interests.
We watched a short video about how birds make their nests 🪹

At our Cranleigh site today in Big Pre school, we have been looking at the sound “CK” and listening for the sound in words 👂
We set up the outside classroom with ducks and the 5 little ducks story, the children used the ducks to act the story out. 🦆 Inside we had an emotions table with the story of the ugly duckling and spoke about how the ducklings all felt. Both of these activities link in with our next steps of counting and emotions. 1️⃣2️⃣3️⃣
We also had a dumper truck construction spot tray and talked about when we might see a dumper truck and if they were big or small. Some of the children said they saw some on the way to nursery. 🛻
We made some lovely duck and chicken masks and practised our cutting skills, one of our friends asked how we made the colour purple so we extended this activity by having a colour mixing table and used cotton buds to mix the different colours together. ✂️
Over quiet time we talked about time and how long we had left until tea, the children then made their own clocks by copying the clock we have in the class and putting the numbers in order. ⏰

At our Cranleigh site yesterday in Little Pre School, we looked at the children’s interests and what they wanted to do to stay dry from the rain. 🌧

We had a dinosaur Krispies tray where the children used their imagination to feed the dinosaurs their lunch. 🦕🦖
The children are also loving the role play area at the moment and really wanted to have their own kitchen with food and an oven to cook in. ☕️🥪
We also had a baby cleaning tray where the children used the cloths and water to clean the babies and wash off all the shaving foam. We then dressed them afterwards ready for their lunch in the kitchen. 👶🏻👗👕
The children enjoyed making some pasta necklaces and bracelets too, threading the pasta onto the different size threads. 🧶

✋🏼 British Sign Language ✋🏼

Did you know, BSL will soon be an option for students to take as a GCSE 🙌🏼

This month, our most recent staff training was on British Sign Language, led by our director Lucy. Staff learnt how to sign their names, sign nursery rhymes and simple welcomes.

Today, we were fortunate enough to be invited to watch the production of “Can Bears Ski?” by the very talented Pied Piper Theatre Company 👌🏻

Our Big Pre-School children had a wonderful time at St Catherine's Bramley, where they were seated in a beautiful auditorium with centre seats to watch the wonderful performance. 🐻🎿🎭

At our Cranleigh site today in Big Toddlers, we have been looking at the country France.   🇫🇷
We practised our transferring skills by using different sized scoops to transfer the rice that was dyed in the colours of the French flag. 🇫🇷
We then used various sized boxes to create our own version of the Eiffel Tower.  📦 The children practised building towers placing the boxes in different ways, we had a photo to copy from and spoke about small and large. 📦
We even had a very yummy snack of croissants and warm milk.  🥐
Whilst doing all this we listened to French music and our teachers said some French words they remember.  🇫🇷 🎵

At our Cranleigh site in Babies, we have been looking at colours. We started off with oat play dough, we added different coloured stacking cups and cutters for the children to explore. The children enjoyed feeling the different textures. 👶🏼
We then had a weather spot tray with rainbows and clouds in, with sensory bottles and matching wooden spoons and we sang different weather songs such as “I hear thunder” 🌧️ ⛈️ 🎵 🌈
We then created some lovely rainbow pictures using the three primary colours. 🌈 The children used their hands to mix the colours together. Their teachers used simple words such red, blue, yellow, cold and mixing - this helps to expand the children’s language 🔴🔵🟡

At our Cranleigh site today, it is internet safety day. The children watched a short video about Smartie the penguin and internet safety, if you click here: https://www.childnet.com/resources/smartie-the-penguin/ you can watch this video at home. 💻 🐧
We then had a small discussion about what we would do if we saw something we didn’t like when watching our tablets. 💻

“Before you tap and click
We need to stop and think
And tell someone”

Is the new phase we have learnt today.

At our Cranleigh site today, we have continued doing activities that link in with the letter “C” today focus has been on caterpillars in particular ‘The hungry caterpillar’. 🐛
We used green and red play dough to create our own caterpillars 🐛 we used pipe cleaners to make antennas Pom Poms for eyes and spoke about our feelings as we made these as this links in with a lot of next steps of emotions and feelings.
We then designed our own caterpillars adding different facial features such as eyes, ears, nose and mouths, we also counted how many legs we thought a caterpillar has.
We created some lovely cards using different craft materials. We discussed who we were going to give our cards to. Some of the children said their mums and dads, others gave them to their teachers and said thank you for looking after me 🥰
We then had a large crafting activity where they used junk modelling to create different master pieces which included a robot, rocket and other interesting models. 🚀 🤖
We used cotton buds to paint round the letter “C” this helped promote our fine motor skills. 🎨
We played with the castles and knights and pretended to be kings and queens. 🏰

At our Cranleigh site last week, Little Toddlers went all around the world with their learning! 🌎
We chose to explore some activities based on different countries.
The children visted: Australia, France, Italy, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and Canada! We have other countries to visit which are Brazil, Spain and China which fits nicely with Chinese New Year. 🧧

We explored a range of activities which supported different next steps. These included spot trays with scoops to help transferring and spoon control, learning new words, role play setups to help their imagination and even cooking and baking.

At our Cranleigh site this week in Little Pre School, we are looking at our community and the world around us. 🌎
Yesterday the children got to explore a world sensory tray, with a farmyard, a car park, houses and a forest. The children used their imagination and played alongside each other to explore the different areas of our world and talk about what places they have been to and seen while at home. 🌳🚗🐮

The children also did some creative play and used their hand prints to paint the earth. They used their creative skills and gross motor skills to print their hands on the earth picture to colour it in, creating marks. 🌎

Today we had a dinosaur spot tray with broccoli and asparagus as the trees for the dinosaurs to eat. Yummy yummy! The children used their imagination to create dinosaur sounds and feed them. We spoke about what dinosaurs were in the spot tray and what ones we play with at home. 🦖🦕🥦

Today is also internet safety day so before we ate our lunch we watched a video all about what we do when online and how we can stay safe when using our tablets and our mummy’s and daddy’s phones, who to ask for help and how. 📱

At our Cranleigh site today in Big Preschool, we have been looking at the letter “Cc” and will continue to look at it this week. 🔠
We started off by going on a field walk with our ‘I spy’ worksheets, where we saw lots of cars and lorry’s. 🚗 🚛 Just as we were leaving we firstly heard a helicopter before finally seeing it come through the clouds. 🚁
Back in the garden we saw some more material being delivered for our new little village, the lorry driver used a crane to unload his goods. 🏗
Some of our friends had been baking over the weekend so we set up a large cooking spot tray where we all pretended to be chefs. We weighed and measured different foods.👨🏻‍🍳 👩🏼‍🍳 🍳
We then did some lovely car painting using various coloured painters, the children listened to the rustling sounds the cars created as they glided across the table. 🚘 🎨
Once we had finished our painting we then had a mini car wash which we used sponges and cloths to make our cars nice and sparkly. This helps teach the children to take care of their toys and to make sure they are put away as we find them. 🚘 🚙 🔴🔵⚪️⚫️
We have also practiced our cutting skills by following lines that led to carrots and this afternoon we are going to peel and cut carrots to go with our crackers for snack. ✂️ 🥕
We have also had a can you find the objects that begin with “Cc” in the spot tray. This helps the children think about the sound before saying it.

At our Cranleigh site this week in Little Pre School, we have been looking at the emergency services and all the people who help us in the world. The children have enjoyed exploring all the different activities from being vets, to a construction cereals play and looking at how and what we recycle. 🚜🐱🐶👷🏻‍♀️

Today we had a vets role play where the children used their imagination to treat and look after the animals. We used bandages, medicine syringes and treats to help the poorly animals feel better again. The children worked together to save the animals and communicated about how they were going to treat them. 🐰🐭🐱👩🏼‍⚕️
We linked this in with our sensory medicine tray with glitter, rice and Pom Poms that the children used funnels to pour into the bottles, ready to give to the vets to heal the animals. We looked at the different sizes of the funnels to see what would help get the “medicine” in the bottles the quickest. 🌡

At our Cranleigh site today, the sound of the week in Big Pre-School is ‘Oo’
Here are some of our quiet time activities in our outdoor classroom this lunchtime. We have a very colourful Octopus spot tray, encouraging our children to explore and follow patterns, this also supports basic counting skills and colour recognition. 🐙 The children have a spot tray with items that all begin with the letter and sound ‘Oo’ or are the shape of the letter to explore, sparking lots of conversation and exploration about the objects. 🍊
The children really enjoy sand play in Big Pre-School, so we have created an Orange hunt with all items orange for them to explore. 🍊
Finally, to support feelings and emotions we have set up an area for the children to create self-portraits, we have chosen some Oil paintings for the children explore giving them ideas of creating their own versions of themselves. 🖼️ 👩‍🎨
