Where in the world...
P6/7 were studying 'All Around The World' and were looking at different countries, capital cities, flags and cultures. Towards the end of their topic they had a little flag hunt and quiz time around the school. They had great fun running around the school and matching the countries to the flag. I wonder how many the teachers and parents could match?
Space Walk
Primary 5/6/7 got the fantastic opportuinty to go on the 'Space Walk' in Londonderry. We had our very own guide that told us all about space and showed us the amazing statues created by Oliver Jeffries. We are now Space geniuses! It was a wonderful trip!
Number Day 2022
Number Day in DPS was a day full of numeracy - every child's dream! The children completed number hunts, made calculations throughout the school on giant numbers, learned how to say numbers 1-10 in French, Spanish and German, and completed lots of different numeracy tasks throughout the day. There were number games, number dancing, number work, number art and much, much more! Have a look at some of our photos; smiles everywhere!
P2/3 Number Bond Fun
Today P2/3 were outside in the glorious sunshine revising their number bonds with a fun matching game. Everyone received a number and on the count of three revealed their number and started searching for their matching number bond of 20 partner. It was great to hear the children quickly calculate which other number they needed to find to make their number bond match. Well done P2/3!
Egg-cellent Easter Activities!!
P3/4 were very busy before half term working on lots of easter activities. They retold the story of Easter in their own words and acted out some scenes using puppets they made. Unfortunately the sound is not very good but I'm sure you will enjoy the videos! They made lots of lovely Easter decorations and were lucky enough to recieve two eggs! One from the Hills Church and another from Ballinascreen Credit Union. As you will see from the photos the Easter Bunny delivered these eggs! What an egg-citing surprise!
Important Internet Safety Information
Although the Easter holidays are past this is still important information for all parent/guardians.
Shared Education 2022 Lesson 3 - Habitats
P3/4 loved learning about Animals Habitats from all around the world. They worked in groups and sorted animals into a variety of habitats. They created titles for each of the Habitats in appropriate colours and styles and in another lesson they sorted and added words to describe these habitats, like vast, barren, hostile, leafy, etc. This was a wonderful addition to their vocabulary to use in their literacy lessons. St Michaels children carried out the same lesson in their school and we were able to share our ideas and learning virtually on screen back in class through Collaborate.
Young Enterprise in P1&P2
Primary 1 & 2 were very lucky to have received the Young Enterprise Primary Programme over the past few weeks learning all about Ourselves and various job roles. The children listended to lots of stories teaching them about the importance of working together, making good decisions and working hard. The children were delighted to receive a certificate and stickers for their participation. Have a look below at the snapshot of all the wonderful learning in this programme.
Easter Treats
P2/3 had Numeracy of a different sort today! We've been revising our number bonds of ten so our Egg Hunt Eggs had different number bond questions which the children had to answer in order to find their personal egg number. Lots of fun was had during the running, searching and counting and great excitement when their number matched the number bond sum! We wish you all a very Happy Easter!
Happy Easter
Wishing the DPS family a very Happy Easter from all of the staff. School will resume on Tuesday 26th April. We hope you all enjoy the break and have the chance the share some time with family and friends.
A.R. Superstars!
A HUGE congratulations to Matlida, Dean, Harry and Darci who have all become Accelerated Reading Word Millionaires! This means that since September 2021 they have managed to read at least 1,000,000 words each which, I'm sure you'll agree, is an AMAZING achievement! As a reward they each got to pick a book to be ordered in for them and here they are looking very pleased with their choices. Well done to all four of our A.R. Superstars!
