Hallowe’en for P3/4
There has been spooky goings on in P3/4 this week! We had a scary music lesson from Musical Pathway’s Ms O’Hare. Listen to our scary castle song. We made pumpkin masks for our poem performance. We used our spellings to “carve up” some pumpkins. We wrote spooky sentences in our tiny pumpkin books! We also drew forests full of creepy crawlies and had a ball dressing up and playing with friends! Sit back and enjoy some Halloween fun from P3/4.

P3/4 are keeping busy!!
We are continuing with our dinosaur focus by writing reports on some dinosaurs, creating bar charts of our favourite dinosaurs and playing Top Trumps with dinosaur facts. In numeracy we are working on place value and addition. We had to sort number cards into groups, complete 100 square jigsaws and create addition sums from number cards we chose ourselves. We’ve also been looking at different ways to learn our spellings! We’ve used play dough to make letters, played spelling shed games and partnered up to play word games. Lots of learning opportunities in our activity based learning, as well as lots of fun! We hope you enjoying seeing our learning in action!!

Paired Reading Programme
P4 have begun a 6 week Paired Reading programme where they select their own books and read with an adult ar home. They have made a very enthusiastic start by choosing books and telling their peers about good titles! This also ties into Northern Ireland Libraries book week, which promotes a love of reading for all. I asked some of P4 the reason they are enjoying our Paired Reading project. P1 and P2 are mini professors!
What a wonderful morning P1 and P2 had becoming scientists today! They were kindly invited to a Mini Professors Science Classes North West NI workshop by Dennett Interchange. This was funded by Derry City & Strabane District Council. The children had a great time learning about bridges, magnets and more!Thank you to all involved, we had a great time.

Poetry Week in P2/3
During Poetry Week P2/3 had a look at the poem, 'Cats' by Eleanor Farjeon. We read it together, searched for rhyming words and read the poem aloud, which you will see in the videos below. September Celebration Assembly
Yesterday we had lots of fun in our first celebration assembly of the school year. We had Pupil of the Month winners in each class, a pupil who has reached his AR target already and our house points leaders to announce. There was lots of excitement!

A great start to P1 and P2
Mrs Hay, Mrs Timoney, Joanne and Alex have been having the most wonderful September with our fabulous pupils. P1 are settling into school life really well and P2 are being such wonderful friends to our new pupils.

We had a VERY exciting afternoon in DPS today! Our new ActivPanel was installed! We can't wait to get started learning and teaching using this amazing new tool! Thank you so so much Donemana Primary School Family and Friends Association for funding this and to everyone supporting their events which has helped fund this wonderful piece of equipment.

Donemana Primary School Family and Friends Association (DPS FAFA) need your help!

We are holding our Annual Grand Meeting on Monday 25th September in Donemana Primary School at 7.30pm for an 8pm start.

This meeting is held once a year and is an opportunity for those within the local community, with present ties, past ties or soon to be future ties with the School to hear about what we do, how we do it, plans for the year and how to get involved (suggestions for events along with volunteers for events are always welcome of course).
If you, or someone in your family circle can contribute even a couple of hours at a Donemana Primary School Family and Friends run event during the school year, by helping to plan, organise or attend you can directly help improve the experience for those attending.

The purpose(s) of Donemana Primary School Family and Friends Association (PTA) is to advance the education of the pupils in the school in particular by:

1) Developing effective relationships between the staff, parents and others associated with the school.

2) Engaging in activities or providing facilities or equipment which support the school and advance the education of the pupils.

Business!
Our P7 SUPERSTARS have been busy in the month of June. They have had their business heads on and have created some wonderful products to sell. They made bracelets, anklets, mini flowerpots and cards. They went to Foyleside at the beginning of June and sold all of their products. They then made more and sold all of them in school! WOW! They made over £300 and have decided to give some of it to school funds and have used the rest to buy water accessories for a water fight and ice creams from the ice cream van! Sunflowers
Today P2/3 completed their last piece of work in relation to their, “Growing is Good” topic. Having planted our sunflowers we got talking about the famous painting of sunflowers which led on to talking about the painter, Van Gogh and then there were many questions about his life. We then watched a video telling us all about him and his sunflower painting so of course the next step just had to be recreating his famous painting ourselves! We hope you like seeing our beautiful artwork and enjoy the information in the videos below. Have a wonderful summer everyone and I hope the P2/3 sunflowers grow as tall as the P2/3s themselves!
