Flightpath Flying Club

Flight Training and Self Fly Hire for the Private Pilot. A modern training fleet in a vintage club a

Operating as usual

The Club unfortunately remains closed following the termination of the lease by our landlords. A remedy is still being sought, hampered of course by the Christmas break.
Voucher Flights.
If you hold an Into the Blue voucher, Into The Blue are organising alternative arrangements to enable you to fly, and they will publish details/be in touch with voucher holders in the near future.
If you hold a Flightpath Voucher, then we are hopeful that you will be able to book to fly through our own alternative arrangements from the start of the flying season towards Easter. Futher updates will be posted here and on our website.
Self Fly Hire.
The owners of many of the aircraft - not connected to Flightpath nor Flightpath's owners - have made their own arrangements at Wolverhampton for licence holders to access the fleet for self fly hire. Licence holders have been contacted directly regarding this.
Flight Training.
The rules around how we can conduct flight training require a premises with minimum physical attiributes. We are still attempting to locate an alternative site for flight training, or to be able to pass the student base to other schools. Students have been emailed directly with more information, including how to arrange the transfer of student records to a new school in line with CAA requirements in the interim, or as a permanent change of school if they so wish.
It is still the intention of Flightpath to seek a solution for all concerned, and our thanks to the team who must of course now concentrate on securing their immediate futures and meeting immediate personal commitments in these very difficult times, and a special thanks to the vast majorty of customers for their continued support and understanding of the difficulties we face.
Further updates will be posted here, as well as on the website and by email to current Club members.
ALL enquiries should be addressed only to [email protected], and will be answered as soon as is possible, although there may well cuurently be a delay and/or limited information available beyond these updates as the priorty is to seek a full solution.

Effective from 2nd December, 2022, all flight operations are suspended, no further flight bookings will be taken, and the premises will remain closed, until further notice.

This follows notification from our landlords of the termination of our lease as a result of a very long-running dispute over electricity over-charging.

Please note the Company has no plans to enter administration nor liquidation etc. Rather a resolution is being sought through various routes including negotiation, relocation, amalgamation, or contracting out of flying, to name a few.

In the meantime, all individual correspondence should be addressed to [email protected], and only urgent matters will be dealt with in the short term. Queries regarding flight bookings or financial matters may not be answered until the situation has been resolved.

Further information will be provided directly to customers, and via our Website and page, as it becomes available.

Our apologies for any inconvenience.

Today saw yet another powerful 180hp Piper Cherokee added to your fleet with simple modern livery.
IJ comes with a full IFR panel sparking a lot of interest in IR(R) training given the recent weather, but she’s equally at home for PPL/LAPL training and long range self fly hire with a great useful load.
Come say hello!

Busy day rounded off with some sunset formation. This Grob adds a bit of fun to hour building or a local jaunt. When it comes to low cost flying - why fly any other two seater?

Couple of tough and impressive looking visitors today. You gotta wonder if we’re being used as targeting practice whilst we bimble around the sky having fun……

Learning to fly. The stuff dreams are made of….

A great day for float plane ratings! However, in todays winds you'll get more groundspeed out of a sailing boat.....
Let's hope for CAVOK soon.

What an amazing Members Hallowe’en party this afternoon - which of course has ended up in the pub!
More photos of the Club event and free barbecue tomorrow, which went so well thanks to the hard work of Ops Boss Courtney.

💀🎃 Hallowe'en Party 🎃💀
A reminder Club Members are invited with families and children to pop in between 12:00 and 18:00 tomorrow for fun, food, scares and spooks at the Frightpath Halowe'en Day.

Frighteningly good flying and fun.....

Memories of the last ever Project Propeller event hosted by Wolverhampton Airport back in June.
Remembering the sacrifice of those WW2 aircrew that were present and those that were not, so we have the freedom to indulge in aviation today.
What a great job Project Propeller and our home base airfield did that day.

Here’s Wendy celebrating a pretty good Birthday (we’re not saying what!) a few weeks ago with an Air Experience flight, accompanied by family in the back.
Totally hooked! Having already also sky dived - aerobatics and wing walking are next on her list!

First Solo! 🥇🥂
Many congratulations Andrew Ruston with what the tower decided was the best landing of the day!
This semi-retired central heating engineer will need a warm radiator after ancient and honourable traditions were observed courtesy of instructor Jack.
Well done Andy!

Hour Builders and adventurous Self Fly Hirers. Our fleet of PA-28s and Grobs are available from £109 per hour dry. Take one exclusively, get around the UK or Europe with no minimum daily hours, or base yourself from our HQ with free landing/circuit fees - and like minded aviators with similar goals to share the fun with.

Student Louise having a bit of fun in the tower. Louise is preparing for her skills test for a pilots licence, works volunteer days in the airfield tower, got married last month after repeated postponements for Covid, trying to move house, and works full time in the NHS. How does she fit all in?

Everyone's favourite PA-28, "The African Queen" returns to Flightpath for a busy day with students. She's probably the most pristine little Cherokee in the UK, well equipped, and a joy to fly.
That's what she's here for, so book yourself in...

Aerobatics is not only fun, but it also certainly makes you a better, more instinctive, more knowledgable, and more rounded pilot. Your instructors for the competency based Aerobatic Rating here include the Manager of the World Championship medal-winning British Aerobatics Team, one current and one former airshow display pilot, an RAF line pilot instructor, and an ex Royal Navy Officer.
That's an unrivalled amount of broad experience you can draw on to be professionally trained, prepared, and guided through the entire flight envelope - whether the goal is to be a better pilot, Sunday afternoon loops with your best pal, competition aerobatics, or becoming a famous flying display pilot.
Get in touch to see where flying Aerobatics can take you next.....

12 year old Connor taking control on his first ever flight thanks to the Air Experience Gift Mum & Dad got for him.
Of course he was a little nervous beforehand, but it was all smiles from 300’ onwards gaining confidence and getting some good views of West Midlands Safari Park.
The team have worked very hard catching up on gift flights after Covid and there’s still some work to do, but what an amazing experience to give someone special!

Thursday 3rd November see the start of Night Flying at Flightpath, whether getting the Night Rating (Students at Navigation Stage or Licence Holders), getting current again, or just turning up to get warm by the log fire with free pizza and hot chocolate. It's quite the weekly social event whether you're flying or not!
Flightpath Members should look out for today's email with full details and some nice night flying offers.

Homesick Angel OA lines up carrying Number 11 for the Queens Cup Air Race this weekend - on the 100th anniversary of the event. 3rd in class was achieved after an exemplary performance in the 100th Anniversary Kings Cup a couple of weeks ago, scuppered by just one undershot turning point leading to a technical disqualification.
The Pilot on both occasions? The son of the winner of the 50th Anniversary Kings Cup. It just had to be so....
Glad we could help - three of our aircraft now carry the necessary documentation to race. Let us know if you fancy a go next season. As participating in flying heritage goes, Royal Aero Club Air Racing in the UK is unrivalled.

This coming weekend you can fly the beautiful aerobatic thoroughbred, the Extra 200. You can take control for some gentle loops and rolls, or some complete hooliganism! With an airframe capable of +/- 10G, it’s everything you want in aerobatics.
This is truly a unique experience, and with Barbecue alongside why not come try it for yourself if you dare! Message us if you want one of the few slots left available. First come, first inverted!

On Saturday, Flightpath had the privilege of hosting the Bull Dog and Chipmunk Group for their nine ship “missing woman” formation flight, including the Chipmunk King Charles III learnt to fly in.
The flight went beautifully and featured on local TV news with magazine coverage coming soon.
These amazing pilots asked us to make special mention of Courtney Allen and Jack Brasier-Craigh - the magnificent Ops duo - for making sure everyone was fed, watered, and comfortable during the detailed briefing, and ready to fly!

Monday 19th September, 2022
The airfield will be NOTAM CLOSED and no flying will take place. The main airfield gates will remain locked.
Flightpath will therefore be closed for the day with no office cover, allowing staff to observe the day of Her Majesty's funeral as they see fit.
We will reopen as normal on Tuesday 20th.

Tuesday 4th October, 2022, at 19:30hrs.
Bobbington Village Hall, Six Ashes Rd, Bobbington. DY7 5DU.
Free Admission, and refreshments available.
GASCo Flight Safety Evenings are incredibly useful to all students and pilots, and you shouldn't miss the opportunity to attend one and get your log book stamped as having done so. All the latest safety issues will be discussed.
Thank you to Tony Dring for arranging this on behalf of Wolverhampton Airport, who are financially supporting the event.

WIth the sad news of the passing of HM Queen Elizabeth II, the airfield and other agencies have requested some operational changes.
Today (Friday 9th September), no circuits are allowed between 12:00 and 13:00 local. Departures and arrivals (straight in and out - no overhead joins etc) will continue. This is to allow neighbours to observe the ringing of bells and military salutes happening today.
There will be no after-hours flying today. All flights must be back on the ground by 18:00 local.
Similar restrictions may apply over this weekend.
During the weekend only training flights, and self fly hire for hour building or for those needing to get somewhere, will take place. There will be no Trial Lessons, Air Experience flights, nor Wingly type flights taking place.
These are events unprescedented in most of our lifetimes, and it is difficult to predict and make decsions on how they will affect operations in the coming weeks as we all come to terms with the loss of our Queen.
The airfield have said it is highly likely that it will be closed for all operations on the day of the state funeral.
Tomorrow's vintage Piper Fly-In has been cancelled.
We will of course keep you informed, and likewise each of us will want to observe these coming days in different ways - please let us know if that affects slots booked etc., or if you have suggestions on how we should mark this sombre ocassion.

To those spending the day with their Fathers, those that will see them soon, and those who dearly wish they could - but will remember them with love today. Celebration or reflection, we hope it’s a joyful day with a nod of thanks to all our Dads. After all, there’s at least half a chance that’s where your aviation genes come from...
