It’s been Design and Technology cookery day in Oak Class today. This half term we have been learning about the nutritional values of different foods and designing a healthy hot lunch. We chopped peppers and onions, sliced cucumber and tomatoes, grated cheese, baked potatoes and cooked pasta, developing lots of practical kitchen skills. We enjoyed our meal together as a class whilst discussing our plans for the holidays. A great team effort to end the half term. 🥗🍝🫑🧅🍅🍍🍏🍊🍉🍇
If you feel your child would benefit from accessing one of the BEAM drop in sessions, then please let us know. They are in school time but obviously count as a medical appointment and don’t impact attendance.
Thank you to the PTA Committee, the very many willing parent helpers who got us cleared up so quickly, the brilliant turnout and DJ Chris for such a fantastic Valentine’s Disco. It was so great to see the children dancing and having so much fun!
We’ve had a fantastic morning planting trees for an orchard with National Trust, examining owl pellets we found and racing around playing a prey and predators game. It’s been a great way to spend part of Children’s Mental Health week - bring outside, being active and connecting with nature.
Meet Oak Class’ newest member 💀🦴 May we introduce ‘Rebecca’ the skeleton. She is joining us for a few weeks to help us learn the scientific names of the bones of the human skeleton. Mrs Clarke is very impressed by her quiet manner in class. 💀🦴
Children are full of excitement for our PTA Valentine’s Disco tomorrow so it’s good to see our older children helping them burn off energy by organising lunch time clubs and activities. Oak Class are using Shrewsbury Town’s Playground Stars programme to develop their leadership potential and our younger children enjoy the benefit too!
Maple Class had the most amazing time today - climbing with Arthog Outreach!
Parents evening times have been sent out to your emails. Please check that you have your time. We were able to accommodate all the requests sent to us by 31st. Any problems contact the School Office.
The hall is currently a very focused gym as our Y3s practise their floor routines ahead of a gymnastics competition. It’s great they have Simon our coach and 2 other adults in the session to give them feedback and support.
We hope the children have begun telling you of their many adventures these last few days, you’ve found their wet clothes and they are looking forward to sleep! They have been a wonderful group to take away and I’d (Mrs Cansdale) like to thank Mrs Clarke, Mrs Shires and Mrs Oakley for all the fun and care shared. As you might imagine there is a bag of lost property at school, so if you have things missing it’s likely we have it and can give it to you on Monday.
An exciting morning orienteering in the woodland. We are racing to be the first team to complete the challenges.
Winner of most organised dorm competition. These boys are super organised. They may be some of the younger ones but they’ve stripped beds, packed up, swept their room and are playing games by 7:45am. Runners up were the big Y6 boys. Come on girls (some are still in pjs!).

Oak Class have spent the day at the Royal Air Force Museum Cosford, watching an explosive science show and exploring a huge range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) activities in the hangers. We definitely have some budding scientists and computer programmers !

The Great British Bake Off might have started tonight but tomorrow Holly Class are baking ready for their Macmillan Coffee Morning on Friday between 10-11am. All are very welcome. If you can’t make it feel free to send in a donation or your own baked goods.

There are a number of parent carer led support groups in Shropshire. They offer a safe space for parent carers to chat, share information and experiences, and support and empower each other. Many of them are Facebook groups, so they can be accessed at any time.

You can find a list of groups on our Local Offer website

We welcome harvest goods that we will pass on to Shrewsbury Food Bank, as we celebrate Harvest Festival as a school community on Friday. Parents of Acorns (big and little) are welcome to join us at 9.05am as each class brings something creative to share with the rest of school.

Willow Class are having a great day at Carding Mill Valley working with the Education Team. We’ve done River Study and measured the width and speed of the water, dipped for samples to measure water purity and we’re now in a guided walk. We’re grateful for the cloud and breeze here too!

We are looking forward to welcoming any parents to our first Parents' Workshop of the year, tomorrow (Thursday) from 3.30-5.00pm. A fabulous occupational therapist who has done some training for us as a staff team, will be running a session for parents about understanding your child's sensory needs. This is open to everyone - we will be looking at how children use their senses, why they can sometimes get overwhelmed and 'act out' and what we can do to help them in those situations. Free childcare is provided - but please drop the office an email to let us know if you are coming.

We hope that everyone is having a lovely summer holiday. Remember if you would like to book any wrap around child care or any of our after school clubs, then you can do so online by clicking on

Well done to our pupils! Do go and see the Field of Play if you are at Attingham Park this summer.

What a fantastic event last night. The rain and wind couldn’t get in the way of the fun! A huge thanks to the PTA, staff and all our families who came and supported it. We really appreciated having so many volunteers helping out in different ways.

Wonderful to welcome some very special visitors to our classes today. Thank you Becky for bringing chicks in for us to see.

Our amazing Year 6’s enjoyed their Leaver’s Lunch today, celebrating both their SATs results and their time at Christ Church. Mrs Jolly and Mrs Pryce made a feast for them - just look at our puddings ! Thank you both for making us such a memorable meal. 🤗

Photos from Christ Church CE Primary School, Cressage's post 11/07/2023

We are celebrating today! We are so proud of our children who achieve in so many different ways. It's SATS results day today and our Y6s have 'smashed' their SATS - achieving their own goals (as they knew their aims) but also putting our school above the national averages in every subject. A huge well done to Oak Class! The photo is of them about to go canoeing as we celebrated the end of SATS.
We are also celebrating gaining Platinum Sports Mark - this is the first time we have achieved this high level of recognition for the sporting opportunities we give all our children - we have been at Gold level for the past 5 years. Platinum is really hard for small schools to achieve and it is down to the relentless enthusiasm of staff and children and the support of parents in taking children to events too.
As a headteacher I am really pleased to get both bits of news on the same day - as it is all round development we aim for at Christ Church - and we want every child to thrive and flourish. Well done to all our children and staff who have worked hard this year.

Does anyone have any copies of Ronald Dahl’s BFG which they no longer use at home please? One of our classes are reading this book in the Autumn term as a whole class reading book and we need as many copies as we can to make a class set. We have borrowed as many as we can from the School Library Service but are about 6 short. Thank you.

We are looking forward to tomorrow and our Sports Morning. Feel free to bring along camping chairs and picnic rugs - we will have some hall chairs out too. We're aware the forecast is for light rain - so you might want to bring a brolly. We will be going ahead unless the conditions are too slippy to be safe.

We enjoy sharing home learning in school - with our huge display outside the office and by having a 'gallery afternoon' looking at what others have studied about our topic. Thank you to parents for supporting children to use their knowledge and vocabulary at home. This term's curriculum grids and home learning suggestions will be emailed out to you this week and are on the class pages of the website if you need to find them, later on in term.

Outdoor education is one of our 'curriculum drivers' as being outdoors and being fit and active is key to good mental health, it grows teamwork and problem solving skills and this leads to children being 'ready to learn'.
This morning after assembly: Willow Class were running their Daily Mile, Y6s were getting ready to go canoeing, Maple Class were about to enter Forest School and Acorns were doing PE in small groups to help their fine and gross motor skills develop. A little snapshot of school life. Enjoy being outdoors and the lovely weather this half term.

Timeline photos 22/05/2023

Hopefully the good weather is here to stay. Please send your child to school with suncream already applied, as we work and play outside throughout the day. Please ensure they have their water bottle. We have school hats in school for everyone - which have a flap covering the back of the neck - to protect against sun stroke and burning. Years 5 & 6 are able to bring their own hat if they would like but all other years wear a school sun hat. There is a lovely sun safety story here to share with younger children:

We have a Book Fair available before and after school today (Monday) and Tuesday. There is a lovely selection of books for all ages and tastes. You are welcome to come and have a look and buy with your child. If your child travels on school transport you can send them with money and we will help them to buy a book they would like during the school day.

Holly Class are at RAF Cosford where they are learning all about life on the Home Front in WW2, looking at replica artefacts and experiencing what it might have been like to be a child at that time.

What a wonderful day - thank you to all our family volunteers for enabling us to have such a fun time on our Colour Run Around the Village - there was so much laughter, looking after each other and colour. Our volunteers kept the children running and cheered them along all afternoon. Thanks to all the car drivers and local people too who were so considerate as we were out and about around the village. We'll let you have the amounts raised for School Fund and Nkuringo Primary School, Uganda in the newsletter - so still time to make a donation.

Thank you so much to everyone who came to our School Grounds Morning. We had the most amazing turnout of over 60 people, the sun shone and we got so much done. We all feel so blessed to be part of a school community of parents, children, staff, wider family and governors who give up their time to make school the best it can be for the children.
Sorry I didn’t take photos of all the groups working in Forest School, round the back of school, emptying sheds, landscaping, and painting. A huge thanks to all involved. Enjoy your afternoon.

We are so proud of Maple Class. They did an amazing job serving their families at the Coronation Cream Tea today. Thank you to everyone who came and supported them. They have raised an amazing £185 for the Malala Fund which campaigns for girls' right to go to school. They have been inspired learning about Malala Yousafzai and they chose her charity as part of their Archbishops' KS1 leadership award. They were really excited about the tea- a huge thanks for your generosity in showing them that their actions make a difference. We won't mention Miss Fortune's scone technique - clearly Cornish - when we all know clotted cream should go on the bottom!

Our Colour Run is coming up soon ... thanks to Active Kids Council for organising this. Parents have been sent a flyer and email with information on it today. Please look out and support our fundraising and get involved in the fun by stewarding at the event. We're looking forward to getting messy!
