Reminder that there is NO Stay and Play drop-in this week! It's super rare that we cancel altogether, but we have Peer Supporter training to equip more lovely volunteers with the skills to help you out, so we hope you will forgive us 🧡

Still a few small gaps for booking consultations Wednesday/Friday, and you can catch us at the Sustainable Market at Victoria Hall from 11am on Saturday!

Two options to visit us for drop-in help this week!

Quick fit checks also available at Sling Clinic on Saturday.

Both sessions are drop-in, no booking needed just sign in on arrival. Free to attend but 'pay as you feel' donations gratefully accepted - scan the QR code from the wall.

Please note that these are group sessions aimed at quick fit checks/trying on a new option/general tips and queries, we do not offer to teach back carrying at drop-ins. Anyone needing in-depth support is advised to book a one-to-one appointment.

New hire pricing!

For a long time we've been absorbing all cost increases - which have been coming from all directions it seems!

The time has come for a couple of changes, we hope you understand.

In a nutshell: weekly carrier hires go up by a pound - now £8.50 per week, £25.50 per 4 weeks. We are keeping daily fees/late fees the same.

The newborn stretchy hire scheme will no longer apply, replaced by our new Sling Start offer, to better reflect the needs of our customers.
Selected newborn options now come with a free bonus week on your first hire - no more complicated deposits 🙂

Remember that all customers who hire are still eligible for a one off 5% discount when purchasing your own carrier through our retail arm , postal hirers should get in touch before ordering.

This is a query that has come up A LOT recently in consults and drop-ins - what about baby's head?

Many parents are surprised to find that your carrier shouldn't cover over your baby's head, to keep their airways clear and their little faces in sight at all times.

Head support should come from their body position within a well fitted sling that stops ✋️ at the nape of the neck. (Check the link in stories/comments to read more about how to achieve this)

Sophie

Today is our lovely Sophie’s last day working at the Sheffield Sling Library - she’s taken up a new role as an Early Years Educator at Foresteers Outdoor Preschool.

She’s been with us since 2019 and has been a blessing with her bright smile and gorgeous laugh as well as her kindness and compassion for families at what is often a tricky time in their lives. We will miss her greatly and are very sure Foresteers will appreciate her infectious enthusiasm!

It’s been a pleasure to have you with us, Sophie and we wish you all the best in your new adventures.

Sophie White will have been the face who welcomed many of you into Sling Spot - the baby carrier shop for the first time; and a big part of many of your carrying journeys, we'd love to hear your stories below!

How cosy do these two look?

Whilst we LOVE our dedicated babywearing coats we also spend a lot of time talking about other options - like this lovely oversized coat that mum bought with her to the consultation.

The bottom half is zipped up as far as baby's bum, so little feet are covered and cosy, but the top half is left open to keep her head and face free and clear of fabric (the coat is well away from her face, the angle of the photo is misleading!)

If needed, you could also tuck in a light blanket or scarf across baby's back to close the gap against drafts, as long as you remember to keep fabric away from little faces.

Layers on top of the sling are always better than inside it as you can adjust them, especially for little ones!
