Amazing effort from our devs team in their match against the Sheff medics. Unfortunately couldn’t quite get the win (maybe due to some of their players barking) but still a lovely day in the sun, well done guys!🖤💛

2s:

Sheffield 2s 3-3 York 2s

Another Sheffield York battle took place today but at the beautiful Graves😍 A highly contested match that could’ve gone either way. Charlotte and Ellen had a fantastic day and won all their matches. Big up Ellen Wong who had done an A&E night shift and still slayed💅 the other two weren’t quite as fortunate and Reef and Olesia lost all of theirs meaning it was a 3-3 draw overall, perfect end for the mid-table finish this season.

MATCH REPORT: York 1s 3-3 Sheffield 1s

Final BUCS day of the season and the girls were headed up to York. As they arrived at the York campus, there were only 3 york girls but the numbers picked up later on. We started with the 2, 3 and 4 singles and Natalie had a tough match and unfortunately lost 6-1 6-1. On the middle court Louisa kept her head and had a chill (apart from the one game in the middle that lasted for a good twenty minutes) 6-0 6-1 win. The end court was a bit closer (also including a 20 minute game at the same time as Louisa’s) and Lissy sadly lost 7-6(5) 6-4. When the fourth singles player finally arrived Marina had a sticky 6-3 6-1 loss. Then we moved to the dubs where York brought in their 5th player and Natalie and Marina stormed through with a rapid 6-3 6-3 win. Absolutely no stopping them. 3-2 to York and a huge doubles was happening on the other court. The newly formed pair of Lissy and Lou were quick to a 6-2 win in the first set when they got complacent after lissy aimed for Lou’s head and sent them towards a tiebreak. Now the event you’ve all been waiting for. It was 6-6 in the tiebreak. A call from the sidelines: if you win this Uos tennis tattoo? Lissy: yes… Now we’re not sure how it happened but they clutched the win 10-8.
After the girls clinched that 3-3 draw (a win in my books as it sent Hallam down), they headed to spoons (shocker) and planned the tat. After a few pints (and a quick visit to the York version of Bloomery) they headed to get the tattoo 🐠🐟📦.

Potm-train conductor on the trip up who was extremely cheery

Next match: Varsity!! 🖤💛

MATCH REPORT- MEN’S 2s VS HALLAM 1s

The men’s 2s took on Hallam 1s in their last match of the season. Louis battled hard in his singles, made uncomfortable by the generational head-loss happening on the other side of the net. Unfortunately he would lose 7-5 7-5. Joe’s singles was a match plucked out of the 1960s, with both players addicted to the serve and volley. A close first set tiebreak turned the tide of the match, ending in a 7-6 6-3 loss. George and Isaac’s doubles slipped away, and the 2s went 3-0 down.

But they battled hard in the remaining three matches. Isaac took down Hallam’s captain in straight sets for the second time this season. Joe and Louis turned their match around with some aggressive doubles, taking the win 10-7 in a match tiebreak. George ‘unc’ Kirby then took to the court looking to complete the comeback. Running a half marathon days before was probably not the best idea for the veteran, and unfortunately his knees gave way.

Final Score: Sheff Men’s 2s 2-4 Sheffield Hallam 1s

A great effort from the 2s to cap off a productive season. 👏 They’ll take on Division 3 again next season.

MATCH REPORT- Men’s 3s vs Manchester 4s

“Where’s the Prosecco?” Asks Hugo, before the men’s 3s take on Manny 4s for promotion.
“How was this Hugo guy in devs last year… he’s better than Joe Broom!!!” - Manchester Tennis President
“COME ON”, Isaac screams as he moon-balls himself to his second win of the day.
“Hehehehe” Nick chuckles as he wins his only point of the match.
“94,95,96 … double faults” in our top doubles pairing

Overall, we don’t know how we lost, but we did. And we have to accept that. In life sometimes you’ve got to play with the cards you’re dealt, and oh boy were we dealt them. From dodgy-line-call cards to cards with terrible lighting, the list went on …

The 3s lose 4-2.
