We have a Free Youth First Aid course happening on Tuesday 18th October (this is during the October holidays) for young people age 12 - 16.

This course is free for young people living in Ayrshire.

Young people must have parental consent to attend.

This course goes a step further than the mini aiders and gives young people the skills and confidence to act in an emergency.

The HSE states that:

This course is over 2 mornings - from 10am - 1pm on the 17th and 31st August. To book a place please message ABC Education Group CIC who will be able to book you in.

FIRST AID FOR YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH SCQF LEVEL 5

The qualification has been designed with children and young people in mind covering areas such as depression, self-harm, eating disorders and bullying and will provide the knowledge and skills to identify a potential mental health condition, start a conversation, and provide support and guidance to professional help.

Learners will not diagnose or treat mental health conditions as this can only be carried out by healthcare professionals but will gain the knowledge to identify when a person may have a condition and know where they can go to get help.

Syllabus
A range of First Aid for Mental Health related subjects are covered including:
• What is first aid for youth mental health?
• Identifying mental health conditions
• Stress
• Mental health conditions
• Drugs and alcohol
• First aid action plan for mental health

Our Nephew Ryan comes to help us with some of our courses and whilst he is here he has set up his own tuck shop to make him some extra pocket money. This will be available for all courses running in the centre (although Ryan wont be much to his dismay)

Last night we delivered our Understanding and Managing Challenging Behaviours course to an organisation who asked for it.

We used a new interactive software that allows learners to interact with the presentation and training and gives points of discussion.

It went down a storm on the evaluations and you can see the word clouds that it then creates 😀
