Meet Will Barnett, co-founder of Perform 👋👋

Will founded Perform with Lucy way back in 2000 when he was a fresh-faced twenty-something. His main areas of responsibility are marketing, finance, IT and creative resources.

We asked him what inspired him to set up Perform. "From the very beginning, Perform was always about putting the performing arts to work for children rather than the other way around. Plus, we wanted to avoid franchising and run everything centrally to keep the quality really high and maintain our focus on building children's social skills," he says.

Despite much of his time being spent running the business, Will says that what he loves doing most is writing songs and dances for children and he's written almost 500 over the past 25 years.

"Children are the hardest audience", he says, "and if you can get them singing and clapping along and focusing on a scene, it's a great feeling!"

His highlight so far? "Probably writing and directing two of my shows, Mermaids & Pirates and The Dream in the Perform in the Park festival in Central London in 2023."

Finally, what is he looking forward to? "Right now, I'm looking forward to the return of Magical Merlin at the St Martin's Theatre in the West End this October. Taking place just after Halloween, it's sure to be a spooky and spectacular half-term treat!"

Perform’s story started in 2000 when founders Lucy Quick and Will Barnett set out to create a new kind of drama school - one that has child development at its very heart.
