Squat jumps are a Great exercise to add to your training for running!, the more power you have the faster you can run 🏃🏻, bounding skipping or hopping exercises are also great for improving your ability to create power and speed

Doing these exercises will also mean less contact time with the ground each stride resulting in faster running 🔥

Teaching and tekkas👀
🔥start with a just past shoulder width stance
🔥push your chest and bum out to create neutral spine position
🔥squat down and power up driving the hips forwards and leaving the ground
🔥swing your arms through at the same time to create more lift
🔥on return cushion your landing with soft knees and repeat the process
🔥don’t let your knees bow inwards so drive them out slightly to ensure ankles knees and hips are in line reducing excess pressure

The plank rock is a great progressive exercise for the traditional plank, not only that it makes the core work harder and the shoulders as your body weight moves backwards and forwards, you will feel the burn in the core a lot sooner too as it tries to adjust to the change of position.

To level this exercise up you could also try adding a foam block between the legs to crush with your thighs engaging the legs more too. As iv said before to have a great running performance you will need a strong core and this will certainly test that!

Teaching and tekkas
🔥don’t let the hips drop too low or lift too high
🔥draw your belly button in towards your spine and engage your glutes squeezing them to keep a straight position through the body
🔥set your elbows up directly below the shoulder and then to advance the exercise move them slightly in front of the shoulder
🔥push through your toes to rock backwards and forwards
🔥maintain same level through the body, dont allowing the hips to lift
🔥don’t forget to breath

Try adding 3 rounds of 45seconds on 15seconds rest, let me know how you get on!

Kettlebell reverse lunges are great for taxing the legs in a compound movement, whilst challenging the core to maintain up right posture as the weight will pull the body forwards. The reverse lunge will hit the big leg muscles hard, remember increasing your strength is going to lead to more power and less effort per stride of running. Not only that this exercise will help to improve and pick out any imbalances between your legs as they are being worked individually through range of motion. This exercise will also help to improve overall stability which as a runner is also very important !

Teaching and tekkas
🔥hold the kettlebell at chest height
🔥shoulder width stance with your feet
🔥core engaged looking forwards not down
🔥step back with maintaining shoulder width distance to stabilize you
🔥make sure you get right angles at both legs if this isn’t happening either the weight needs to drop a bit or your stride is too short
🔥keep the body upright through out the exercise
🔥lower under control then return to standing position driving your hips to a neutral position

The low lateral lunge rock is a great exercise for warming up the legs and also really hitting those adductors (inside of the quads) and abductors (outside of the quads) and the glutes, the aim is to stay low and slowly move side to side, you will feel the stretch especially if you are tight in the inner thighs with this one, not to mention a nice bit of quad burn if your staying low enough!

Teaching and tekkas
🔥start with a nice wide stance for your feet
🔥push you chest out and bum out and sink down into position
🔥ensure you keep your heels pushed into the floor and your torso upright as much as possible
🔥looking forwards rather than down will help with this
🔥slowly move side to side under control
🔥keep your core nice and tight too

Try adding 3 sets of 20reps to your warm up ✅🔥

Kettlebell RDL is a great exercise for focusing on strengthening the hamstrings and glutes making it a great exercise for runners !

Tekkas and teaching points

🔥 shoulder width stance with feet
🔥heels pushed into the floor
🔥overarm grip on the kettlebell
🔥chest pushed out and bum pushed out to create neutral spine position
🔥 drop the hips back and lean forwards
🔥try to maintain almost straight legs with a slight bend at the knee
🔥 lower slowly and then drive back up to start position powerfully
🔥 keep the kettlebell as close to midline as possible

Barbell thrusters are perfect for runners to build strength in glutes!

Think of them as the power house for your running!

Not only that they are great for improving lower back and core stability, which is key for runners to be efficient and affective!

Tekkas and teaching points

🔥shoulder width stance with your feet
🔥heels pushed into the floor
🔥core engaged
🔥bar resting on your hip crease
🔥drive the hips up to neutral position
🔥squeezing the glutes
🔥drive up powerfully and return under control

To really turn on the glutes add a band around the thighs and focus on driving the knees outwards aswell!
