This morning we have been learning about oral health, why we brush our teeth, what foods are good and bad to eat.

We have talked about the dentist and how they help us take care of our teeth and mouth. We have discussed how long we brush our teeth for, two minutes and how long this is.

We read the book ‘why should I brush my teeth’.

One of the girls role played with Peppa pig in front of the mirror in the dolls house and sang a brush your teeth song. All the children shared their own experiences of the dentist and brushing their teeth at home.
In the baby room we have been exploring cornflour. The children started to play with the cornflour using their hands to feel the texture, the children also used the animals to make marks in the cornflour.
The children then watched as water was getting poured in to the cornflour, seeming fascinated by the way the texture changed. The children then used their hands and fingers to mix the materials together.

Babies have also been doing some painting outside using natural resources from the garden, they enjoyed being creative and being fascinated with the prints that they were making on to the paper.
We’ve been really creative and made Easter Hats.

We hope everyone has a lovely long Easter weekend 🐣🐥🐣
We spend lots of time in our outdoor area in all weathers. It has so many benefits for our children 🌞🌧❄️
In the baby room we have been getting creative painting with transport toys. We have provided the children with different coloured paint as well as a variety of transport toys. The children enjoyed exploring this activity by transferring the paint from the trays on to the paper, moving the transport toys in back and forward motions on the paper, making track marks.
We have begun to celebrate spring and Easter in nursery. The children have enjoyed lots of creative activities, using potatoes to print Easter eggs. The children also used forks to make tulips which we have used to decorate our Easter board.

The babies have created a scene in their window at the front of the setting of daffodils made using hand prints and Easter egg printing.

The children are enjoying the story, ‘We're going on a Egg Hunt’ which we share daily. We have talked about the changes taking place in the garden, new flowers appearing and the children have enjoyed watching our daffodils growing in the garden box.
We have enjoyed using our tuff spot in nursery over the last few weeks and we have had different activity ideas. For World Book Day we had dinosaurs and natural resources to go alongside the stories ‘Tyrannosaurus drip’ and the ‘Dinosaur who lost his roar’. Both books are favourites of the children.

We had a Super worm tray which the children loved to go alongside the book which is another weekly favourite.

We used natural paintbrushes outside for an arty tray. A Pancake day tray and small world tray with sand track and small trains. Today we will be exploring Dinosaurs and Jungle animals.

All the trays we have explored have given the children opportunities to use their imaginations, learn new words, animal names and to role play their favourite stories. We have provided lots of flexible and open ended resources for children to develop imaginative play as well as expressing their ideas and feelings through mark making.

Through conversation, story telling and role play, children share their ideas, children become comfortable using a rich range of vocabulary and language structures.
Sand play with natural resources and insects has been enjoyed by all of our children.

Lots of opportunity to talk about insects and the world around us 🍃🦎🕷🦗🦟
Our children are really enjoying expressing themselves through arts and crafts. They asked for painting so we used the floor space to provide a big canvas for them to create, offering a variety of mark making tools, sponges, brushes and scrunchies.

Also enjoyed was sand and water play, tipping and pouring, filling and emptying using tools to spoon sand and water.

Our toddlers enjoyed splashing in the water and making bubbles. Lots of communication was used between the children and they enjoyed mixing all the different coloured paints to make their own effects. Exploring different materials using all their senses to investigate and explore. Manipulating and playing with different materials.
Water Play is a big interest for our children. We’ve been using our imaginative skills playing with dolls whilst washing them. We’ve used some great vocabulary and have been using our sharing skills.
We have been making some salt dough decorations. The babies seemed to enjoy playing in the flour that we made the salt dough with, so we decided to put more flour on to the table to make marks in using the transport toys and our hands and fingers. The children enjoyed exploring this activity and getting very messy.
One day last week it was very rainy outside so the babies enjoyed getting wet inside with water play. Opportunity to explore the water inside as well as splashing in puddles outside 💦💧☔️☔️

Following on from an interest of the story 'Room on the Broom', the children have been making their own potions. Flowers, herbs and leaves were gathered and given to the children along with paint and water, they began mixing the liquids in a bowl before adding the herbs and flowers which some of them pulled apart. The toddlers smelt the herbs and enjoyed mixing their potions, engaging with the activity for a long period of time. We plan to extend this activity and interest for the story by gathering sticks with the children and making our own broomsticks.

Our preschool children have been practising their physical skills, using one handed equipment such as scissors to cut out shapes. They have also been talking and learning about different shapes such as Star, Heart, Circle, Hexagon and Triangle, using informal and mathematical language. The children were actively learning, concentrating hard, staying focused and kept on trying when they encountered difficulty.

The children have enjoyed role play, pretending to be doctors and nurses. They have worn the costumes and made a dialogue during their play, drawing on their own life experiences of going to the doctors. They have used the stethoscope to listen to their hearts and used bandages to "make me better" They are exploring different materials and using their own ideas to express themselves.

We have been planting cress seeds today all the children helped to set the seeds into cotton wool then watered them we will watch the process of our seeds growing and will eat the cress once it has grown.

As children understand what their seedling requires, they will gain a sense of care. Introducing small responsibilities such as those needed to grow plants can support children in gaining a sense of independence, which helps increase their feelings of self-confidence.

Today we have had an outside day, the weather has been lovely and we have lots of activities. We had water beads and water for the children to explore using different resources, tweezers, bowls, spoons pots to fill and empty. They also enjoyed exploring using their hands feeling the water as it swirled round and round and running past their fingers as they swayed them back and fourth.
For many children, tactile play can be very soothing, such as using their hands to knead cool playdough or running sand, rice and water through their fingers in sensory bins.
Children often work in small groups or side-by-side during sensory play, which helps them learn to communicate, share and get along together.

Expressive arts & design - Communication & Language

We have also been using our fine motor skills to operate tweezers to pick up matching coloured teddies out of the water, counting them using numbers, remembering and matching colours,

We did an observational painting of a dandelion. Adult spoke about the life cycle of a dandelion whilst the children looked closely at the different features of a dandelion. Adult modelled vocabulary such as stem, petals roots puff ball, seed head and leaves. Adult also spoke about how dandelions can be used to make tea, coffee and medicine.

To paint our flowers , adult showed the children how we could use the cotton buds to create the seeds and a fork to paint the petals. The children had a go at painting the dandelions using this technique.

At nursery we offer a range of experiences that Ofsted define as ‘cultural capital’ which is knowledge children need to prepare them for their future success. Looking after and handling our chicks means the children are having hands on experiences of how to care for animals, giving them the opportunity to experience the wider world. 🐥🐣🐥

Photos from Market Bosworth Day Nursery's post 21/04/2023

We have five chicks that are here at the setting. This morning the children all got to hold them they were all very excited and were so gentle with them. They asked lots of questions "did they come from the eggs?" "they are very fluffy" they have found names for all the chicks, Marshmallow, Bruce, Clive, Arnold & Betty.
The children are looking forward to caring for the chicks cleaning them and feeding them creating opportunities for them to discuss the natural world. They have watched a video of the chicks hatching from the eggs and are able to see the process from start to finish. Understanding of the world.
