📧Question and Answer Time📧
👇Class Rule 👇
'Please do not hold children's arms to aid with tapping / clapping.'
This is one of the 'rules' in our music class. (not rules really, just something that I advise parents not to do, you won't be punished if you happen to do it 😂)
You may wonder why.
Here is an explanation for our practice.
The same principle applies not only in tapping / clapping activities during our music sessions, it also applies in many areas of their lives, like learning how to pour water from a jug, learning how to button up, learning how to write, etc.
If we adults can step back, give time and space, and patiently wait, we will always be amazed.
If you have any questions regarding how children learn music, you are always welcome to send me a message.
Together we learn how to better facilitate children's learning.💜

Making different animal sounds is always fun! Try this little fun cumulative song at home with your little people, and you may be surprised by how well they remember what's next to come in the song!
You can even try asking them what else they have on their farms so that you can substitute the animals and encourage them to improvise new sounds to go with it.
Guaranteed silliness! 🤪🤪

🎵🎵Wonderful to be back in-person finally, musiking with all the little people (and the big people in class as well!) 🎵🎵
The older group got to try on the piano, and they did a great job! (wasn't intended but one of them kept pointing at the piano, so we incorporated it into our play) 🎹🎹
While the younger ones found out that they could control how fast I sing, they sure had fun! 🧸🧸
I truly have the BEST job in the world!
See you all next week 😁

The book we are featuring this week is My Aunt Came Back.
This little echo song is sure to bring a smile to your face with that witty ending.
What makes it more humorous is the fantastic illustrations in this book. My AUNT? My ANT? 😂
Hope you enjoy!

I really can't stress enough the importance of singing to your child (not just playing them nursery rhymes on machines).
Lullaby is a great option. (they are not always about tragedies and death 😂 there are some really really beautiful lullabies.)
Those following Magda Ge**er may not agree with the idea of rocking an infant to sleep, however, incorporating lullabies into the night-time routine is a fantastic way to start building the "song of kin" as mentioned in the article.
Ultimately, this 👇 is the essence of bringing music to your home.
“Cuing into the mood of that child, collaborating, calibrating the music in real time, that’s where communication begins and is sustained"
If you find it difficult to find quality lullabies, come to our classes and you will learn heaps 😂
Or maybe we can start a local lullaby project, who knows!
Is it weird to sing my kids lullabies? Maybe, but science is clear about the benefits | Sophie Brickman
The thing about singing to a child, I learned, is that it’s arguably as important to the singers as the listeners

Early Years Music Play Session
***New Class starting 25 March***
Repetition and imitation are the foundation of all learning, but in Music Play, we don’t just stop at imitation, we guide children to learn the syntax of music through play so that they can turn what they absorb into logical thoughts, just like language learning.
Come join our Music Play sessions and develop musicality through singing and movement.
Your children will be able to:
- Understand the syntax of music
- Sing tunefully
- Respond to music expressively and rhythmically with their bodies
- Create music with their voices
- Converse using the language of music

Spring is slowly creeping in, but it is still chilly at night. Sometimes we see foxes coming out at night. I wonder what this cheeky fox is up to!
Enjoy!

Not every child is ready to respond in ways that adults expect them to be in music classes, but if we understand which stage they are in, in terms of musical development, and what behaviors we may see in those stages, we adults can learn to patiently wait and assist them to become confident music-makers.

--- Music At Home ---
Sharing bedtime stories with children is a wonderful way to strengthen the bonding with our little ones, why not use this time to also bring music into the family time.
We will share one 'song-tale' picture book every week. These are stories set to songs. So instead of reading the story, you will be singing it out!
Worried about not knowing how to sing them?
We will provide a link to the audio recordings that you can download for free.
We will start off by sharing this beautifully illustrated series of song-tales complied by John M. Feierabend, PhD*.
The first one that we would like to share is a sweet song-tale called Momma Buy Me A China Doll.
A link to the recording can be found on the publisher website:

Hope you enjoy it!
*John M. Feierabend, PhD is a leading authority on child development in music and movement and served as Professor and Chair of the Music Education Department of the Hartt School of the University of Hartford.

- - How Do Children Learn Music - -
Why do we (parents) need to understand how children learn music?
Because if we have a better understanding, we can avoid spending time and money on classes that do not actually help develop your child’s aural sense and musicality.
What are the similarities between language learning and music learning?
What can we do at home to facilitate that?
