We're honoured to have the Preston Lodge High School Pipe Band play at our graduation days each year. These incredibly talented pupils bring a little bit of magic to our graduation ceremonies and receptions. And this year, we were blown away by Ollie, who played a pipe solo at our first graduation ceremony of 2025 in the Usher Hall - marking our 150th anniversary year and the installation of our new Chancellor, Patrick Grant. Here’s the band playing at Tuesday's graduation reception on campus.

QMU lecturer and co-founder of the Toy Box Diversity Lab, Dr Siân Jones, has provided expert commentary to multinational broadcaster, CNN on the development of the new Barbie doll with Type 1 diabetes.
Siân, who is disabled herself, emphasised how inclusive toys do more than inspire - they help “children build empathy, awareness, and inclusivity,” providing both mirrors for those living with chronic conditions and windows into others’ experiences.
Her expert insights highlight the powerful role that representation plays in shaping understanding from an early age. It’s great to see that Siân’s impactful research into anti-ableism (especially within education) is helping to influence conversations on disability and accessibility on a global stage.
