Four amazing students at Pitlochry High School in Perthshire raised an incredible £3000 for our Imbewu programme through the Young Philanthropy Initiative. Their motivation was beautiful – this success means other young people will benefit from Imbewu, and utilise the positive impact it would have in their lives. Please read their full story here: http://ow.ly/W2tU50uJYuH
A big shout out to Rebecca and her team from Pitlochry High School - who took part in the Youth Philanthropy Initiative and managed to win! Presenting to a panel of judges on why they felt Imbewu Scotland was a worthwhile project. They have worked incredibly hard over the past few months and we are super proud of them! Thanks again - the money will be used to deliver an Imbewu later this year.

Check out this awesome opportunity to volunteer with reindeer guys - this summer!

Thanks to our band of volunteers for helping renovate Shawhead

Ibmewu Scotland Shawhead Farmhouse Reno’ - We would like to say a big thank you to our tremendous volunteer team warriors headed by our Imbewu volunteer Holly Barwick who undertook the massive task of decorating and improving the facilities at Shawhead. Our wonderful old farmhouse on the Douglas and Angus Estate that we use for our trail groups – but was in need of a little TLC, actually a lot of TLC. This was no easy task with plastering, painting, wallpapering, tiling, insulating, upholstery, curtain making, fittings, shelves, boathooks, boot racks - sounds more like a renovation project! Also, shout outs and thanks to 'St Pauls Youth Forum' (A young persons charity from East end of Glasgow) who lent us their van for the weekend, to move people and supplies to Shawhead. The team said they really enjoyed their time, played some games, had some nice meals and had a few beers too - so it wasn't total hardship at all (Their words!) Again thank you all so very much for your time and hard work - which will see Shawhead in fine form for the groups who visit in the not to distant future. Our Story

Imbewu participants enhance their well-being simply by being outdoors in the wild world. Participants are inspired to preserve natural spaces and explore new career pathways. The curriculum includes rural heritage, conservation practice, estate management, and sustainable land management. Experienced gamekeepers and estate managers help supervise hands-on experience with rural jobs such as wildlife conservation, estate management, fishing and forestry, and renewable energy. In the course of the week long programme, participants earn the John Muir Award and Leave No Trace accreditation. These recognitions enhance not only participants’ self-esteem but also their employability.

Imbewu is open to young people ages 13–17 from one of our partner schools in Scottish cities. Current funding enables us to run four Imbewu groups, each comprising up to 10 young people, each year.

“My highlight was swimming in the lake because it was refreshing and meeting new people – I don’t do this very often. I built my confidence and realized I could work with people different from me” Mhairi

“I loved learning about Game-keeping and the different jobs on the estate, I learnt how to survive outdoors, how to read a map and to cook a five star meal from nothing” Aydon
