Peter Keegan Artist is a professional artist and director of The Courtyard Art Studio based here in Claydon Courtyard.
Peter specialises in portraiture, but has recently been working on a series of still-life paintings, and says: “I have fallen in love with painting these little studies, many of which have already found homes on people's walls!”
As a tutor and the Creative Director of The Courtyard Art Studio, during lockdown, Peter transferred much of his teaching digitally to Zoom & Skype * new dates for these excellent demonstrations have just been announced for September *
While the online demonstrations have proven very popular, he is also looking forward to resuming in-person courses in the studio at Claydon Courtyard from the 15th August...🖌️

Operating as usual
Out with the old...in with the new!
After 5 years of working at the Courtyard of Claydon Estate we have moved studios.
Before we opened The Courtyard Art Studio in 2017, had been working as an artist in his own studio, next door, since the beginning of 2016. We had 5 wonderful years at Claydon, building up both businesses and sharing our art and teaching with anyone who visited Claydon. As many of you know, we shared the site with the National Trust’s Claydon House. Sadly, the House has remained closed all year and it looks unlikely to re-open in the New Year either, at least not in the same capacity. As you can imagine, this drastically reduced the footfall to the site. Coupled with covid restrictions, which inhibited us from running any courses this year and the Estate’s vision for the Courtyard, unfortunately, it was no longer possible for us to remain there.
Last week, we packed up the contents of the 2 studios and moved down the road, to the village of Botolph Claydon. Our new studio is situated upstairs in East and Botolph Claydon Village Hall. As and when we can, we will run our courses in the main hall downstairs.
2020 has been a rollercoaster- but 2021 is already looking brighter. Wish us luck...here we go!
What are “Works on Paper”? Well in Peter’s case, he works in this way when teaching, demonstrating, trying out new techniques or a new new paint colour. Some get reused, some get painted over, some get thrown away ... and some make it onto the wall and onto the website for sale, such as this one, “At the Lakeside”. 40 x 40cm
It’s beginning to look a lot like...no I can’t say it 🙊still a bit early...
These beautiful, original art cards by are available on our website in packs of 6 and will be part of our offer for the pop-up (which starts tomorrow)
Cherries II, by
Oil on board, 21 x 21cm. I know I am biased but this is one of my favourite pieces by my husband & it is part of his current online exhibition. We are delighted to be taking part in pop-up event this Sunday 15 through to Tuesday 17 where we will have some of Peter’s other, original artwork for sale, on our website.

Whatever Boris says at 4pm today, we will try our very best to be there for you; to give you something to do and something to look forward to. We have Zoom demonstrations coming up this week and throughout November and our director has an online exhibition up on his website until Friday 13th November. Covid has stopped many things this year but it won’t stop us teaching you, connecting with you and it won’t stop our love for art.
It’s true...it came from a review of an exhibition, describing the paintings as unfinished - merely an impression of the subject rather than a completed work. Join this Wednesday evening to learn more and how you can paint in this style - you could even watch in your pj’s with a glass of wine - we won’t judge 😉
When completing a landscape painting, there are so many aspects to consider: vanishing point, balance, tone, colour, quality and handling of brushwork - join our Director for his final zoom demo of the month when he will discuss all these points and more
Ever been inspired to have a go at painting like Monet, Pissarro, Renoir et al? Watch artist and studio director demonstrate his approach to painting a landscape inspired by the impressionistic style. Buy your ticket by following the link in the bio.
Our next painting demonstration coming up next week is going to be the last one for a little while - we are working on some exciting new projects and ventures which we look forward to telling you about soon.
Due to popular demand, we are going to be offering the chance to re-watch tonight’s demo for the next 7 days, all for the same price of £12. So you can sit back and relax tonight, knowing you can re-watch and catch up on any bits you might have missed, at any time during the next week. Ticket sales close at 6.30pm so don’t leave it til the last minute
Our next online zoom demonstration is tomorrow evening. You can watch live tomorrow and we will give you access to watch (or re-watch!) for 7 days after. All for just £12 a ticket. The link is in our bio.
Director Peter Keegan is best known for his portraiture work so it’s no surprise that of all his Zoom demonstrations, this is the most popular. Make sure you book your ticket for tomorrow night. Link in the bio.

“I enjoyed your zoom on Saturday, it was excellent, weirdly I have seen you demonstrate 3 times previously, this time I think more stuff went in, either that or I found it easier to concentrate without others around me!”
“Last nights demo was fabulous!”
“I have thoroughly enjoyed your Zoom demos...made the lockdown more tolerable!”

What a cutie! “Painting children” is one of our next zoom demonstrations coming up in September, with our Director .
The latest figure study by Peter, our Director. Peter will be leading a Zoom demo all about painting figures on Saturday 12 Sept at 10.30am.
We love it when a painting looks good enough to eat. We have started harvesting the first tomatoes from our plants in our greenhouse - now we just have to hold off eating them long enough to be able to paint them 👍 This is one of the still life paintings produced recently by our director
Another fantastic painting by as part of her online exhibition which can be viewed on her website until next Saturday 8 August. We studied at university with Rachel and it has been brilliant to watch her career take off and progress so much over the last two years, since returning to her art after having her children. We were meant to be hosting a “real life” exhibition of her work at the end of August had Covid never happened, so although it’s not the same, we are delighted that we can be involved in supporting her online exhibition instead. Do take a look at her page and her website if you haven’t already.
Head to the link in our bio if you want to join me for a demonstration this Monday. I was ill with a migraine last week so it was postponed but I am feeling much better now. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and I can’t wait for this one
It’s beginning to look a lot like summer... if you fancy seeing how I, create one of these beautiful figure studies, be sure to watch my zoom demonstration on Saturday 12 September. Click on the link in the bio to buy your ticket for £12 @ Buckinghamshire
