Out with the old...in with the new!
After 5 years of working at the Courtyard of Claydon Estate we have moved studios.
Before we opened The Courtyard Art Studio in 2017, had been working as an artist in his own studio, next door, since the beginning of 2016. We had 5 wonderful years at Claydon, building up both businesses and sharing our art and teaching with anyone who visited Claydon. As many of you know, we shared the site with the National Trust’s Claydon House. Sadly, the House has remained closed all year and it looks unlikely to re-open in the New Year either, at least not in the same capacity. As you can imagine, this drastically reduced the footfall to the site. Coupled with covid restrictions, which inhibited us from running any courses this year and the Estate’s vision for the Courtyard, unfortunately, it was no longer possible for us to remain there.
Last week, we packed up the contents of the 2 studios and moved down the road, to the village of Botolph Claydon. Our new studio is situated upstairs in East and Botolph Claydon Village Hall. As and when we can, we will run our courses in the main hall downstairs.
2020 has been a rollercoaster- but 2021 is already looking brighter. Wish us luck...here we go!
What are “Works on Paper”? Well in Peter’s case, he works in this way when teaching, demonstrating, trying out new techniques or a new new paint colour. Some get reused, some get painted over, some get thrown away ... and some make it onto the wall and onto the website for sale, such as this one, “At the Lakeside”. 40 x 40cm
It’s beginning to look a lot like...no I can’t say it 🙊still a bit early...
These beautiful, original art cards by are available on our website in packs of 6 and will be part of our offer for the pop-up (which starts tomorrow)

It’s true...it came from a review of an exhibition, describing the paintings as unfinished - merely an impression of the subject rather than a completed work. Join this Wednesday evening to learn more and how you can paint in this style - you could even watch in your pj’s with a glass of wine - we won’t judge 😉
When completing a landscape painting, there are so many aspects to consider: vanishing point, balance, tone, colour, quality and handling of brushwork - join our Director for his final zoom demo of the month when he will discuss all these points and more

What a cutie! “Painting children” is one of our next zoom demonstrations coming up in September, with our Director .
The latest figure study by Peter, our Director. Peter will be leading a Zoom demo all about painting figures on Saturday 12 Sept at 10.30am.
We love it when a painting looks good enough to eat. We have started harvesting the first tomatoes from our plants in our greenhouse - now we just have to hold off eating them long enough to be able to paint them 👍 This is one of the still life paintings produced recently by our director
Another fantastic painting by as part of her online exhibition which can be viewed on her website until next Saturday 8 August. We studied at university with Rachel and it has been brilliant to watch her career take off and progress so much over the last two years, since returning to her art after having her children. We were meant to be hosting a “real life” exhibition of her work at the end of August had Covid never happened, so although it’s not the same, we are delighted that we can be involved in supporting her online exhibition instead. Do take a look at her page and her website if you haven’t already.
Head to the link in our bio if you want to join me for a demonstration this Monday. I was ill with a migraine last week so it was postponed but I am feeling much better now. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and I can’t wait for this one
