Leavers 2023 20/07/2023

Another year has passed, and the time has come to say a fond farewell to our fabulous Year 6 children. Over the last week, we have shared some lovely events, building up to the service held in St. Giles Church this morning. The week started with our end of term production: The Island That Rocks. There were some great solos, some wonderful American accents, and a cool horse and donkey doing a ho-down!...

Pirate day 19/07/2023

This week we have been reading ‘The Night Pirates’ by Peter Harris and Deborah Allright. It is about a young boy who is awoken in the night to find girl pirates stealing the front of his house! Tom joins their adventure across the high seas. At the back of the book was a poster! We all did want to be pirates, so we filled in our application forms and waited!!...

Our trip to Sudbury 13/07/2023

We had a lovely day on Tuesday visiting the Children’s Country House Museum at Sudbury. We had an immersive experience in a strict Victorian classroom and had a treasure hunt through the museum, with plenty of hands on activities. The children enjoyed it and were still full of energy on the way home! They were really well behaved and we were very proud of them....

Thank you to parents, staff, Qualitas and to our wonderful children who all took part in Sports Day today.

It was wonderful to see all of our children take part in a variety of events ranging from the javelin, shot put, speed jump through to a fast sprint, the sack race and the classic relay.

Well done to all who took part and well done to Blue House.

Massive thanks to the fab staff from St Giles Primary and to the equally wonderful Qualitas ⭐️

👨‍💻 Programming! 👩‍💻 06/07/2023

This term we have been very busy in our computing lessons. We have been programming, using our fabulous (touch screen!) laptops through ‘SratchJr’ 🐱. We began investigating sprites (our characters) and backgrounds. This week we modified our programming blocks that we had previously created to make our own algorithm. Yes, it is all very technical! 🙌🏼 🧠💡. The children have persevered and worked very hard 🌟.

Today we were supposed to have our sports day. We all arrived dressed in our sporty clothes feeling excited and ready to try our best. Class one and Class two walked excitedly up to the playground and field to start our morning of activities. On the playground we played tag and passing a ball-we had to pass it behind us over our head and then between our legs....

Art 23/06/2023

This afternoon we were learning about aboriginal art. First we found Australia on a world map. Then we looked at some examples of dot painting (one of the different forms of aboriginal art). We learnt that it is the oldest form of art, and many of the patterns have different meanings. We looked at some examples of dot painting and then used different materials to create our own dot paintings. We had great fun and here are just a few of our creations.

A sunny outdoor kind of week 18/06/2023

We’ve had a fabulous week using some of our new outdoor equipment. The sand and water trays are a real hit and we love exploring what happens to the water on our new water wall. Book awards 09/06/2023

This week in Class 1 we have been reading some of the books nominated in the St Giles book awards. The first was ‘Flooded’ written by Mariano Illustrajo. It’s a funny and beautifully illustrated story of animals who live in a city that is ever so slowly flooding! It made us all laugh and we spotted lots of interesting things in the illustrations!...

Well done to the St Giles football team who took part in the Bunting Cup today. They travelled with Mrs. Scully and were supported by a number of parents and grandparents. Thank you to those who came to support the children and staff from St Giles Primary 😍

Our children played really well and, after a number of highly competitive games, came third overall. The children won 3 of their games, drew 1 and lost 2. It goes without saying that we're proud of our children because they were an absolute credit to the school. Well done!

Our football team are now resting up and looking forward to further games in the Matlock and Dales Primary Football League over the final half term of the year. You can catch up on the busy fixture list in our latest newsletter: www.stgilesceprimarymatlock.co.uk/newsletters/

Many thanks,
