‘My secret for a long life? Don't get married!'

WWII heroine and 1935 Pitman graduate Kathleen Sexton celebrated her 103rd birthday. We sent a card, flowers, and a recorded message from Managing Director Paul Lewis for her 'This is Your Life' celebration.

Kath is an active golfer who loves sharing her stories. After completing her studies, she worked at the Halifax Building Society and during the war she served for 4.5 years in the National Fire Service, helping crews during the Luftwaffe's attacks on London. She went on to have a successful career, reaching the Truman Boardroom before retiring.

When you send a quick message or use voice typing on your phone, you might be surprised to learn it links back to a clever Victorian whose ideas influence how we connect today.

In 1837, Sir Isaac Pitman wasn't just creating a faster way to write - he was pioneering a new era in communication and education. His shorthand system, which matched sounds to symbols for quick information capture, shares fascinating parallels with how we communicate today - from texting and emojis to GIFs and voice messages.

Pitman was driven by both innovation and inclusion. He believed everyone deserved access to practical education that could transform their career prospects. He opened doors by teaching relevant skills like shorthand, typing, and office skills, making professional training available to people from all walks of life.

Today, on his 212th birthday, we honour his mission of accessible education by helping people gain the tools and knowledge they need to advance their careers and build better futures.

From Cork to Newcastle, Wexford to Glasgow, we've watched our Pitman family turn the festive season into something truly special. From Christmas jumpers raising funds in Cork, Southampton and Portsmouth joining the festive fashion parade for charity, toys bringing smiles through Wexford's appeal, and gift-wrapping stations spreading joy in Newcastle.

Loved seeing Essex turn networking into a proper festive do (those mince pies though!), and what perfect timing for our Glasgow-Edinburgh crew to catch up with Maksim during their Amazon visit - from student to tech success story. Meanwhile, Dublin-Swords got everyone excited with their Christmas Challenge Competition, adding even more sparkle to the season.

As we wrap up 2024, we're not just celebrating achievements - we're celebrating the countless ways you've all made your communities brighter.

Shining the spotlight on 2 more of a graduates🎓 for our final winter 2024 graduation post 😊

Deborah balanced being a wife, mother, working a very busy job and also studying 2 diplomas⚡️ She had an extremely busy schedule but always made time for her studies and prioritised her time towards qualifications which would enhance her future opportunities ⭐️

Deborah managed to achieve an incredible 2 Distinctions in her Executive PA diploma and Certificate in Accounting with AAT✔️ if Debbie can do it, so can you 🙏

Samual came to us with more of a shy and reserved nature . However, through his engaging Progress Reviews with us, and incredible skills gained through his diploma, he came out of his shell 😄and achieved a Distinction in his Graphic Design Diploma✍️

Samual and Deborah are a testament of the incredible students we have here at Pitman💯 We see the growth and development📈 from Induction to Graduation 🎉
