What a lovely morning baking bread with the expert assistance of our wonderful Cook,Jean. We weighed, stirred and kneaded with great joy to bake our bread. The winners of the Great Bread Bake Off are…all of prep 3 and 4.
This week we had a roarsome school trip to Blackpool Zoo.
We watched as the penguins slid.
We gasped as the crocodiles hid.
We laughed as the monkeys swung.
And listened as the parrots sung.
What a day full of animal magic!
Prep 3 and 4 have been thoughtful in PSHE. We explored democracy and what that means in Britain. We created thought bubbles to express why democracy is important to everyone.
Sports day 2023 ⭐️ 🏅
Last week our pupils took part in our annual school sports day.
All our pupils took part in several events where they earned stickers and points for the house groups.
Here are a few photos we took from our sports day practices.
If you have any photo’s of your child during or after our events please feel free to share and tag us in 😊 🏅
This week our pupils in Kindergarten and Reception have been learning about people who help us. After reading the story 'Dear Zoo' we decided to look at the role of a zookeeper and how they help to protect and care for a range of different animals. Thinking about different animals the children all thought of questions they'd like to ask the zookeepers at Blackpool Zoo. Yesterday we went for a little walk to our local post box to post our questions to the zoo. Once we'd posted the letter we then discussed the journey it will go on and how the people who work at Royal Mail will help to deliver it safely to the zoo.
As part of Drowning Prevention Week, we have been learning about what to do if ourselves or someone else gets into trouble in the water. At swimming we then practiced a range of rescue techniques.
In Prep 3 and 4 we are very passionate about saving the Rainforest. We researched into Rainforests and read ‘Where the forest meets the sea’. Using our persuasive skills we created a Save the Rainforests campaign.
This week we have celebrated our families with a lovely craft and croissant morning. We hope you all have a lovely weekend sharing Sunday with your families too. 🥐🎨
In our maths lesson today, the pupils in our Reception class have enjoyed composing and decomposing nets to create some 3D shapes. They were able to say which 2D shapes they had drawn and combined together to create each 3D shape.
During our Anglo-Saxon lesson we investigated their Gods and Goddesses. We selected a God or Goddess then created their special item , we wrote an accompanying information label. We loved getting creative in History.
As well as a gardening team here at Green Meadow Independent School who work well with our Eco-team, we’ve also run a gardening club after school this half term. 🌱
Our pupils are very passionate about looking after our school garden and maintaining them, clearing away any weeds or litter to ensure we create suitable habitats for different mini-beasts. 🌱🌸🦋
Throughout our after school club our pupils have recycled old plant pots and yoghurt pots to create their very own plant pot people which they filled with wildflower seeds which they took home to demonstrate to others about recycling.
Taking part in the Eco-Schools England award has changed the way we look at our impact on our local environment and wider world and what we can do the make a difference.
🐝World bee day 🐝
This week throughout school our pupils have been taking part in different bee related activities.
🌱our garden gang enjoyed creating some new habitats in our garden areas by detangling weeds, plants and sprinkling more wildflower seeds 🌱
🎨 Our older pupils joined our younger pupils with creating bee related pebbles with nice bright colours to attract different wildlife to our gardens🐝🌺
🌱During their break times our pupils decorated their own seed packets which they then filled with seeds to take home to create their own flowered areas.
🐝And today our pupils in Kindergarten and Reception have enjoyed using their creative skills to create their own playdough bees to take home.🐝
As well as these hands on activities our pupils have been learning about bees and why we need to work together to protect them and create safe habitats for them.
Think it’s safe to say we’ve been very busy bees this week 🐝🐝🐝
🌱A couple of weeks ago we took part in the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Big garden seed sow. During this week our pupils planted a range of different seeds, some they took home and some remained in school. 🌱
Over the past couple of weeks our pupils have been caring for these within school, making sure they’ve had plenty of sunshine and water 💦 ☀️
🌻 Today some of our pupils have taken their sunflowers outside to plant in our school gardens, where we will continue to care for them and watch them grow🌻
🌱 Our Garden gang 🌱
Yesterday our garden gang joined Mrs Watson in preparing some of our bedding areas to create new habitats for wildlife. They detangled our lavender plants, removed any old plants and sprinkled some wild flower seeds.🐝🦋
In science this week our Prep 3&4 pupils have been finding out about the digestive system. They learnt about the different organs and their jobs. Our pupils enjoyed labelling the digestive system and created a digestive system dominoes pyramid to widen their knowledge.
Sensational salads by our sensational students!
Today our key stage 1 pupils made a healthy salad to take home. They learned all about the hygiene rules we need to follow when working with food and practised different cutting techniques. They each created a fantastic salad of their very own 🥒🥬🍅
🧸 This week in our Kindergarten and Reception class we have been learning about and comparing things from the past and how they are different to the present day. We have enjoyed exploring some old toys and discussed what features of them were similar, and which were different from toys that we play with in school and at home. The children had great fun showing curiosity as to how these toys worked and were able to treat them with care and respect, acknowledging that the toys were old and fragile 🧸
This week our pupils in Kindergarten and Reception have been learning all about King Charles lll. Yesterday our pupils wrote King Charles lll some questions which we’ve turned into a card using the children’s portraits they’ve created this week too. This morning we’ve had a little walk to the postbox to post our card to Buckingham palace 👑🇬🇧.
Prep 3 and 4 have been busy in DT making battery powered lights, which they designed and constructed extremely well. They applied their Science knowledge about circuits to produce working lights.
👑 To start King Charles lll coronation week our pupils in Reception and Kindergarten have been learning all about who King Charles lll is and his role within our country 🇬🇧
Our pupils then enjoyed using the oil pastels to draw a portrait of King Charles lll. Here are some of our pupils amazing art work 🖼
I’m sure The Royal Family would approve 👑
This week our key stage 1 class have been learning all about where fruits and vegetables grow in their DT topic ‘Sensational Salads’. Here they are taste testing different salads and recording their likes and dislikes. 🥒🧅🥕
Has anybody else been enjoying the sunshine this week?
☀️ Our pupils and teachers here at Green Meadow have made the most of the lovely weather.
☀️ Our pupils in Key Stage 1 enjoyed taking their science lesson outside as they planted a range of different seeds and even some garlic. To help them grow, the children placed their pots in our little greenhouse, I can’t wait to see what happens next 🌱
☀️ Our pupils in upper Key Stage 2 enjoyed their class book outside as they carried out their Literacy lesson 📚
☀️ All our pupils enjoyed spending their break times together interacting with each other, taking turns, building friendships and building their confidence and communication skills 🤝
This week our key stage 1 class have started a new topic in science learning all about plants. The children planted their own wildflower seeds and garlic bulbs and will observe their growth throughout the half term. We will also be learning about how plants grow and what they need to grow well. 🌱

🌱As part of the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Big Seed Sow our children in our Early Years class have done an experiment planting some cress seeds in clear bags so we could observe what happens to seeds under the soil as well as on top. The children showed great enthusiasm and curiosity as they found the seeds had started to root under the soil. The following day they were very excited to find shoots had started to grow on top of the soil. We will continue to look after our seedlings to see what else we can observe 😊🌱.
⭐️ As we approach our Easter break, here are two parental comments we’ve received about their child’s experience here at Green Meadow Independent primary school.⭐️

Yesterday our Early years had a nice surprise visit from some of our older children. Our pupils in Prep 5&6 have been designing, testing and evaluating their very own adventure maps that they had created whilst using the programmable robots. Our pupils in Early years really enjoyed our older pupils sharing these maps with them and letting them use the robots to complete the maps and it was lovely to see different age groups working as a team and listening to each other.

🥪 This week our Early Years children have been looking at the story “The Giant Jam Sandwich“. Our children have each written a set of instructions about how to make a sandwich and decided which fillings they would like in their sandwiches. Today, they have created their own sandwiches by following their instructions. They showed a great can do attitude towards spreading the butter, they chopped their sandwich in half and wrapped it up in foil to take home. We hope they enjoy eating their sandwiches at home this evening 😋 🥪
🌱🌻We’re very grateful that the sun was shining today as we kick off our Big Seed Sow with a trip over to our local residential home. Using recycled milk cartons, yoghurt pots and plant pots the children and residents enjoyed decorating them as well as planting a range of different seeds. Thank you RHS Campaign for School Gardening for providing some of our seeds.
I wonder what will grow ....🌱🌻

Let’s work together to look after our planet Eco-Schools England 🌍
We’ve had a toadally awesome day today 🐸
The children have enjoyed exploring our frog lifecycle tuff tray today using new vocabulary learnt to describe the different stages. They were able to use some fantastic adjectives to describe the textures they could feel such as “slimy”, “smooth”, “rough”, “cold” and “squidgy”. They also enjoyed guessing what flavour the jelly was by using their sense of smell.
In science prep 3 and 4 investigated materials which conduct or insulate electricity.
Let’s use our imagination 🐸🌻🦋
Today in PE the children enjoyed using their imagination and the coloured ribbons to act out the different stages of some life cycles they’ve been learning about in their topic. We had some very insteresting actions to demonstrate a tadpole and a caterpillar 😊. Well done everyone some great teamwork was demonstrated and ideas shared ⭐️
It’s not long now until the RHS Campaign for School Gardening Big Seed Sow! Some of our pupils have started planting some vegetables and flower seeds using some recycled plant and yoghurt pots. We’ve already started to see some change as some of our seeds are starting to grow. 🌱🌻
Building the children’s curiosity about the world around them our pupils in Early years have enjoyed observing the school caterpillars as part of British Science Week, talking about the different stages of their life cycle. So far we have observed them grow from a tiny caterpillar to a much larger caterpillar 🐛. We are very excited to observe the next stage 😊
In Prep 3 & 4 for British Science Week we learned about sustainable and non-sustainable electricity sources. We also used components to create complete and incomplete series circuits, we explained why our circuits were not working, then fixed them. After that, we investigated parallel circuits, using symbols to draw diagrams. We think that science is electrifying!⚡️💡🔋
Our key stage one have been investigating the senses. They used their sense of smell, taste, sight, sound and touch to be detectives and solve a question by answering the clues. 🔍
