😊Trust in Teachers😊
Irish dance teachers feel every high and low with their pupils. They nurture the talent, they share the happy tears (and the sad), and are there for every step of the journey.
We may all be feeling disappointed, worried, confused and a little lost right now, but be sure, your teachers are there for you. Turn to them, trust in them, and as a community we’ll

It’s all about the journey...
No title or podium place will ever make you more perfect as a human than you already are.
Enjoying the journey and every single treble, jump and step along the way will encourage a more positive outlook.
And remember, we’re here to support each and every one of those trebles, jumps and steps! 😊

As a dancer it is vital that you understand what the goal of your practice is so that you understand the type of training that you need to do.
For example If you are learning steps you are learning a new skill that requires practice of timing, coordination, and rhythm. To achieve this you need slow repetitive practice until that skill is engrained in your brain and you can do those steps in your sleep.
When you have learnt the skill it now no longer needs hours and hours of repetitive practice - you can do the movement in your sleep remember?
Instead what you now need is shorter practices made up of speed sharpness and power, with longer recoveries but increased bouts of movement, so that you take the motor skill that you developed at slow speeds and start learning how to execute it at top speeds.
Take away points:
Learning motor skills takes longer practices, slower speeds, increased repetition and fewer recoveries.
Learning speed and power takes shorter practices, faster speeds, less repetition and longer recoveries (just like competiton requirements).
Remember the GOAL of your training dictates the TYPE of training that you do.
