Rukmini Banerji CEO Pratham Education Foundation feels, under the prevailing condtions: "The immediate goals for primary schools are very clear. These need to be urgently and single-mindedly pursued. Getting the youngest children “ready for schooling and learning” and helping the older children to “catch up” should be the only two priorities for education in Bengal in 2022."

Every year more than 3,000 learners like Kalavanti enroll in the Second Chance program to get a chance to restart their education. In March 2020, as soon as the lockdown was declared, Pratham’s Second Chance Program, an otherwise in-person teaching-learning program, switched to a hybrid model by incorporating digital learning.

The students joined virtual Zoom classes. They submitted their assignments on WhatsApp to their facilitators, received individual feedback and accessed content on Pratham’s learning mobile application. Their learning levels were regularly assessed using digital tools such as Google Forms worksheets and assessments designed on the Pratham Assessment app.

Of the 2,586 learners across 9 states who enrolled for examinations this year, 93.1% passed and received their Secondary School certificate.
