West Lodge - OWL

West Lodge - OWL

I was at West lodge for a few yers in the mid fourties,I remember Miss Corke and I think I remember Norland Nannies at some stage ,but this may be a figment of my imagination.
I was there 83-92. My fiancé also went to west lodge and in fact we were in the same class although don't remember each other. We have a video of us together in a school play (the gingerbread man) in 1985!
(1966 - 69) Enjoyed Miss Summerskill's slides on New Zealand the best! Also the assembly singing 'Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday see the candles GAY, when you go to bed tonight, don't forget to SAY, thank you God for a Happy Birth-DAY!' (did I get that right?!)
Hi, I'm Bridget Stap, an ex-Westlodger! 1959-'63. Classmates were Alice Grafton, Susie Fisher, Mary Crust, Janet Stewart amongst others. Anyone out there?!

Later this term we will be celebrating the fact that it is eighty years since West Lodge School, Sidcup was founded.

To celebrate this, on Friday 13th March we would like to invite former pupils to have afternoon tea with some of our governors and the current Year 6 children. This will be from 3.45pm for about an hour.
It will be a pleasure to welcome former pupils back and if people would like a tour of the school, our Year 6 children would be delighted to show you around from 3pm.

So if you attended the school at any time, please contact Mrs Dubbey to let her know that you are able to attend.

Our Story

This page is for students and staff to maintain contact and post relevant information about what they are doing now and events which may be of interest to other colleagues and friends. It is administered by ex West Lodge students to keep ex students and staff informed about events and developments at West Lodge School.

The school was founded by Margery Corke in 1940 and moved to 36 Station Road in 1942. 2 classmates (1953-61), Margot Rohan (nee Treliving) and Jenny Hildreth (nee Tilly) got together at the 50th Anniversary event in 1990 to start planning for an Old West Lodgers association. Old pupils were sent letters inviting them to join and OWL (Old West Lodgers) was finally founded in 1993, with an inaugural meeting on 10 July. The first committee was photographed (see photos) and the Newsletter No.1 was distributed in October 1993. Between then and June 2001, another 10 newsletters were produced. Unfortunately, following Miss Corke's death in 2000 and due to work commitments, the committee broke up and no more newsletters were produced. You can see copies of the newsletters on the West Lodge website. They contain history, reminiscences and photographs of various events. When a competition was held to find a logo for OWL, in 1996, Rachel Courtney (1987-95) produced the winning design, which was first used on Newsletter No.7 in June 1997, and is now our emblem on Facebook and Twitter.

Soon you will be able to register with OWL on the website, so you can access more information specially for alumni.
