Many congratulations to Diane Daly in gaining her Dalcroze Licence. Diane has been part of a Licence group comprising students from the UK, Ireland and Canada. Thanks to her, the group was able to come together regularly to train in Dalcroze at centre for the Irish Chamber Orchestra that Diane is a member of, on the University of Limerick campus.

Diane completed her PhD (2019) at the same time as she was training on the Licence programme. In her PhD she explored the impacts of Dalcroze and related techniques on her professional performance practice. This has subsequently led to her unique approach to preparing and performing repertoire known as Creative Embodied String Performance (CESP). Diane has now taken up a new role as Head of String at the Royal Irish Academy of Music in Dublin. She is the most qualified Dalcroze teacher in Ireland.

For Member Monday, can you answer this question: Do you know about the ‘The Six Skips’ in Dalcroze?

If the answer is maybe, or no, then Join us this Thursday 31st October at 8.00 pm with Jacqueline Vann, DiplômeSupérieur of the Institut Jaques-Dalcroze (IJD), Geneva, and Director of Projects for Dalcroze UK.

Jacqueline will be presenting in the exclusive members space of our Zoom Café to examine some of the less well-known elements from Dalcroze’s work. Skipping is joyful and fun and in DalcrozeToday Marie-Laure Bachman writes about:

“….youngsters who beg for ‘more skipping!’” Dalcroze said about the exercises in skips…” These exercises provide special technical preparation for all the following lessons which involve lively body movements and require lightness, elasticity, and suppleness of leg movements in lively tempos.”

Jacqueline will be examining if these are now redundant or if there is still a place for them in our teaching and learning practice today.
'The Six Skips’ presentation this week promises to be fascinating and informative. Don’t miss out on your member benefits, click on your members portal at 8.00pm on 31st October 2024!
