Implementing protective measures in the Humble Bees Nursery
Following the Government’s announcement that early years settings will reopen from June 2020, the arrangements we have created is an operational plan to ensure the safety of all staff, children and parents.

All the arrangements will be implemented after a robust risk assessment process.

Effective infection protection and control:
At the Humble Bees Nursery we will be taking very essential actions during the coronavirus outbreak, to help prevent the spread of the virus and to keep children and staff safe.

This will include the following listed below:

Planning and organising:
We will be considering the following steps:
- We will be refreshing our risk assessment and other health and safety advice for children, and staff in light of recent government advice, identifying protective measures (such as the things listed below). Also ensure that all health and safety compliance checks have been undertaken before opening
o staggering drop-off and collection times
o planning parents’ drop-off and pick-up protocols that minimise adult to adult contact

Keeping the Environment Clean:
- We will be going through the resources and cutting down on the toys that children rarely use.
- We will be cleaning frequently touched surfaces often, using standard products, such as detergents and bleach.

- Surfaces, tables, chairs and shelves will be cleaned on regular bases, also hand contact points such as: Lights, Door handles, Corner’s where children slide their hands, toilets, toilet tissue holders, taps, Soap dispensers and bins used for toilets.

Keeping Resources Clean
Toys will be sanitised between uses, so we will be cutting down on the toys made available for children.
- Plastic toys will be washed in the dish washer on a hot wash
- Materials will be washed in the washing machine also on a hot wash
- Books will be wiped with antibacterial wipes or spray regularly.
- Sand/Water play/Messy play will be provided in individual trays for the children for single use only.

We will be removing soft furnishings, soft toys and toys that are hard to clean (such as those with intricate parts)

Effective Infection Protection and Control
In order to help to prevent the spread of the virus we will be taking the following steps;
We will be minimising contact with individuals who are unwell by ensuring that those who have coronavirus symptoms, or who have someone in their household who does, do not attend the nursery.

Children will be encouraged to clean their hands more often than usual – washing hands thoroughly for 20 seconds with running water and soap and dry them thoroughly or use alcohol hand rub or sanitizer ensuring that all parts of their hands are covered.

We will also be ensuring good respiratory hygiene by promoting the ‘catch it, bin it, kill it’ approach.

Please do not enter the setting if you are displaying any symptoms of coronavirus.

Arrival and Departures
Only one parent will be permitted to bring children to the setting
Parents/carers will be allocated drop off and collection times and the process for doing so, includes protocols for minimising adult to adult contact.

Parents/Carers cannot gather at entrance doors, or enter the site (unless they have a pre-arranged appointment, which should be conducted safely)

A sign will be placed on the door for parents/carers stating that the bell should be rang once and then parents/carers will need to step back 2 meters/6 feet which will be indicated with a coloured tape at the entrance.

Children will then be asked to step inside, where their coats and shoes will be taken off, and will then be taken to wash their hands.

When departing from the setting, children will be taken to the door, and will then be helped with their shoes and coats. A member of staff will then open the front door and hand over children to parents/carers.

Keep children together where possible:
• Children will be placed in the same groups at all times each day, and different groups will not be mixed during the day, or on subsequent days.
• The same member of staff will be assigned to each group and, as far as possible; these stay the same during the day and on subsequent days.

Curriculum Changes
During this crisis, we will be focusing activities around personal, social and emotional development (wellbeing), because children may be also struggling with good and bad days and may be slightly confused with the changes in the beginning.

Please support staff with teaching older children to cough or sneeze into elbows and to put used tissues in the bin.
As stated previously, we will be using single trays for messy play and children will be playing outside more than usual, as this can limit transmission and more easily allow for distance between children and staff.

Outdoor equipment will be used and will be appropriately cleaned between small groups of children using it.

We are looking forward to seeing the children once again, but I would like to reassure you that the safety and well being of all is our priority. We will continue to review the arrangements we will be implementing at this stage and update you with any changes we may need to make

Thank you for your cooperation
