Dr Susannah Fisher, Principal Research Fellow at the UCL Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction, was chosen to be a part of the small, dedicated team of experts to represent UCL at the Bonn Climate Change Conference closing this week. Dr Fisher attended the joint mission to engage in dialogue, knowledge sharing and capacity building, embodying UCL's commitment to making substantial impact and advancing knowledge in the international climate action space.

The Bonn Climate Change Conference is a meeting point for parties involved in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) process including: governments, civil society organisations, scientists, and other stakeholders, offering a chance to come together and advance the global climate agenda.

Last week, staff and PhD students gathered together for the 2024 Spring Academy at the beautiful Hartsfield Manor in Surrey. The Spring Academy is our annual two-day residential trip that takes us out of UCL and into the countryside to spend time together in a space that allows contemplation, connection, inspiration and meaningful discussion.

This year, we had a wonderful two days collectively considering our identity, impact and role in the world of disaster risk reduction scholarship and practice, as we transition from an institute to a full department.

Registration is now OPEN for this year's UK Alliance for Disaster Research on "collaborative research to make a difference."

The UKADR 2024 Conference will bring together , and funders with an interest in reduction. This year there will be invited talks on case studies of positive collaborations across sectors to encourage evidence-based , participant breakout discussions around how to improve collaboration and assist practitioners to guide conversations, primary research and practitioner presentations as well as flashtalks from early career researchers and practitioners to share current work, findings and challenges.
