The Winch Regent's Park Bike Ride- Winch Winter Appeal 2022
Family friendly event! Every pedal will go towards the Family Support initiatives at The Winch. Ride solo, form a team, ride as a family or just support the event. The Winch is a local children's charity serving the Camden community for fifty years.
Story.

After housing costs, 32% of children live in poverty in Camden, compared to 13% before. SOURCE: Trust for London (2022).

Since 1973, The Winch has worked across North Camden to improve the life chances of children, young people and families. To achieve this, we tackle the inequalities that diminish young people's life chances. These issues include poverty, social exclusion, education and employability, homelessness, violence against young people and the causes and consequences of mental ill health. The Winch provides services that build strengths, skills and belonging.

The Winch's Family Support team creates opportunities for young parents to give their babies and toddlers a healthy and safe start in life. The team nurtures children's critical early development and builds communities of peer support for new parents. They deliver open sessions as well as targeted support programmes in partnership with specialist agencies, to promote parents economic, social and mental wellbeing.

The Regent's Park Bike Ride, was the brainchild of The Hall school in 2020 when concerned staff and parents gathered together to support the Family Support initiatives of The Winch. This year two other local schools, Hereward House and Sarum Hall School have pledged to join the event to raise much needed funds for The Winch. Funds raised will support 350 families who are currently served by our Family Support programme.

In 2022 parents attending our programmes reported that:

79% of attendees felt less socially isolated 6 months into working with us.

91% of attendees felt their mental health and well-being had improved over the last 6 months.

31 parents reported making new connections through our programme.

The Bike Ride is open to the community and local schools. Everyone is welcome to participate. Together we can make a difference in our community!

The Winch will be closed on Monday 31st October for a staff planning and development day. We will be open again on Tuesday 1 November.

During this week (31 Oct- 4 Nov) our well-loved (!) reception area will be getting some much needed TLC by volunteers from McLaren Construction.
Please be aware that we will have alternative arrangements for entry to the building. Not all of our usual groups will be running in the same way.

The Big Give 2022

As a result of Covid-19, The Childhood Trust launched a match-fund campaign called The Champions for Children. This fundraiser helps charities working to ease the impacts of poverty. The target audience is children and young people living in London.

The Play Scheme at The Winch is participating in the fundraising campaign this year. Our goal is to raise £20,000 to help provide weekday holiday play scheme places for 100 children during the 2022 Summer Holidays. From 14th-21st June, The Childhood Trust will double donations made through our campaign.
