ICMP achieves best-ever annual NSS scores 16/11/2023

We're super proud to have achieved our best ever results in the National Student Survey this year!

Outperforming many other small and specialist institutions in the music and creative arts sectors, some highlights include:
- Overall Positivity Rating of 81.9% (above the UK average)
- 93% of students feel free to express their ideas, opinions and beliefs (compared with a national average of 85.2%)
- 90.3% feel they have the right opportunities to provide feedback on their courses (against a benchmark of 76.9 percent)

Tony Harris, ICMP Principal, said:
"The continuing improvement of the student experience has been our absolute priority for a very long time and it’s great to see this borne out by our NSS scores. But we won’t get complacent - we will continue to listen very carefully to what students have to say, and make sure your time at ICMP is as vibrant and valuable as possible."

Ben Jones (pictured), Programme Leader for our BMus Popular Music Performance courses, has been a professional bassist since 2006, and has performed all over the world from 30,000 people in London’s Trafalgar Square, to the prestigious Continental Gallery in Austin, Texas.

Ben has also appeared live on Sky TV, ITV, Brit Asia and Zee TV and has played for a range of acts who have graced festivals such as SXSW, Reading and Leeds Festival, Rock am Ring, Hard Rock Calling and BST Hyde Park.

He can currently be found working as MD and bassist for disco-pop sensation, Hatty Keane, and heading online multi-platform community Behind The Beat alongside fellow ICMP tutor Jon Harris.

Dive into your creativity in our industry-standard recording studios! The perfect space to bring your music to life.

Meanwhile, Avid's Eucon-enabled control surface puts your DAW at your fingertips, while OS Acoustics DB7’s active nearfield monitors are complemented by a pair of Yamaha Music London HS7s for crystal-clear monitoring. Studio 2 is also connected to its very own live room (G05), where you’ll find a full drum kit and Yamaha U1 Piano.

Congratulations to Luke Bullard, BMus Popular Music Performance alumnus, who has spent most of the year on tour with BRIT Award winner James Bay!

Luke graduated from ICMP in 2016 and has been working as a session guitarist and private tutor since.

Between working for various agencies — as well as having a long list of private students — he has been able to balance touring and gigging with tuition, including opportunities with Amber Ru, Smokie and Nate James.

2023 has seen Luke perform at some of James Bay's huge gigs including supporting Bruce Springsteen at London Hyde's Park, the Isle of Wight Festival and at London's iconic Royal Albert Hall.

Congratulations to our Masters in Songwriting student Sarah Rose Shawcross for winning the Pop Award at the Indie International Songwriting Network Songwriting competition 🙌

Sarah’s song - 'Love I Never Wanted' - was awarded first place in this year's contest.

Commenting, Sarah said: "I've been working hard at my songwriting craft this year, focusing on redrafting until I believe my song is the best it can be."

"Winning this contest and getting validation from the judges at Indie International means a great deal to me and has given me the impetus to continue to challenge myself with my songwriting moving forward."

The song was written as part of the Lyrics Module portfolio. It was inspired by a piece of art in a gallery that Sarah saw and used to test the Ekphrasis songwriting technique.

Congratulations to ICMP Music Business and Entrepreneurship alums Paolo Tuveri and Finn Doherty on being named as the latest recipients of the Ace Accelerator@Bureau! 🎉

This opportunity allows Finn & Paolo to base their business out of Bureau in The Design District; it provides them with a platform to grow their enterprise, make meaningful connections and take their ideas to the next stage. It also opens them up to potential networking and collaborative opportunities with other businesses working within the space as well as advice from Ace and Design District experts.

They follow in the footsteps of previous recipients and alums Luana Pires (pictured handing over the keys to Paolo and Finn) and Sean Arkless in winning the backing.

Ace said: "I'm so excited to see the dedication and impressive effort that Paolo and Finn have put into their business model to be incubated in the Design District. I have no doubt that their venture will fit perfectly into the networking and collaboration element that the Bureau has to offer. I wish them the best in this new chapter and look forward to being part of their journey through mentorship."

We had a great time at our Songwriting camp last week!

The two-day event, organised by our Careers and Industry Hub, saw students and alums writing songs together for specific briefs, making demos, and then playing them to two A&Rs from Universal Music Publishing for feedback at the end of the second day.

We hope everyone involved gained some valuable experience along the way, and we're looking forward to the next one 💚
