What do you want to be when you grow up? Last Friday, 'Little City' came to Stanbridge - doctors, post office workers, vets, builders and many more jobs were being role played by Pre School, Y1, and Y2. The children's language and imagination was amazing, as well as building aspirations for the future. More photos on our website:

Our children are learning about Remembrance this week. Two of our children attended the service at the Cenotaph on Friday to lay a wreath on behalf of the school; Mrs McGregor even ensured her dog got to wear a poppy!

Oh my goodness...I have just been outside to look at the Pumpkin Patch and they are amazing. Thank you to our families for their hard work and creativity. Judging will take place on Wednesday afternoon by some of our Governors, so if you haven't brought your entry in today, there is still time. Great job everyone.

Fabulous artwork from our Yr4 children....just in time to remind everyone about the Harvest Pumpkin Patch next week.

Design or decorate your own pumpkin and bring to school on Monday 2nd October - all ready for the Harvest Festival! Make sure you can identify your pumpkin, so we can celebrate our creative winners. We can't wait to see your entries. 😀

More great learning in our Forest School today...a little bit of rain doesn't stop us! 😀

In our assemblies, we have been learning about the importance of being kind, working hard and believing in ourselves. The children have enjoyed sharing the following books and video clip to help them understand that with these values, we can achieve anything.

A belated thankyou to our amazing PTA who were busy selling ice pops last Friday to raise funds for the school and to those families who were able to support. Lots of happy children.

Our lovely children in Pre-School enjoyed some time in the Forest School last week; creating mixtures in the mud kitchen, collecting flowers and picking berries. A great learning experience.

It's going to be warm this week, so please ensure children have sun screen applied before they come into school and remember to bring a hat and a water bottle. School gates will open at 8.45 for Reception to Yr4 and as it is the first day, teachers will collect children from the playground and lead them to their classrooms so they know which way to go. Pre-School will start at 9.00 and enter via the main reception door. We are looking forward to seeing you all.

I hope that you have enjoyed the summer break and wanted to remind you that there are staff training days on Friday 1st and Monday 4th September. Myself and the rest of the Stanbridge team are looking forward to seeing all of the children in school on Tuesday 5th September.
Kind regards,

Miss Gooding

Last Friday the PTFA organised a summer fayre for the children to enjoy. There were lots of fun games such as splat the rat, tombola, a human fruit machine and lolly game. The children all really enjoyed it. A big thank you to the PTFA.

Dear Parents and Children,

I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a final farewell. I arrived at Stanbridge 18 years ago as a very new Head Teacher and I have loved every minute of my headship here.

How do I sum up 18 years of working at Stanbridge. That’s a huge job. I can’t quite put into words how leading a school where everyone is pulling in the same direction, committed and so dedicated to their roles of teaching children, and trying to provide the best education they can for our children makes me feel…only just so very, very proud. The children, the staff, the parents, and the governors all striving to make Stanbridge the best it can possibly be and wow you’ve all done such a fantastic job.

The children and families at Stanbridge have been always been a joy to work with; happy kids and happy families are what we have always strived for and in the main achieved. When you come into Stanbridge, everyone, without fail always comments on the warmth and happiness that fills our school. I always hear children laughing, chatting and singing along the corridors as they move around and they fill the school with sunshine and joy. In the classrooms, I see children engaging in learning, inspirational teachers enriching the curriculum to make learning relevant and fun, children working together helping and guiding each other when faced with a challenging maths problem to solve or when improving and editing their work. It fills my heart with pride seeing the children learn and succeed in school and meeting past pupils and families who speak very highly about their time at Stanbridge.

Finally I would just like to say thank you to you all. Thank you for trusting in me and supporting our school over the years. Stanbridge is a great school and it has been the most rewarding and fulfilling part of my teaching career being the Head of Stanbridge Lower School.

I wish you all every success for the future.

Yours sincerely
R J Godwin
Head Teacher

A big thank you to Mr Brewer for nominating us with GXO. We received £500 which we have used to buy extra reading books for the children to support Little Wandle; our reading scheme.

Reception made flower crowns in forest school using willow branches. They learnt to twist and fold the branch to make a circle, then they threaded flowers and leaves through the gaps.

The Reception children have been so excited because a fairy has visited us over the last couple of weeks. They have been writing letters to her and being very imaginative in their play! n forest school reception children have painted a large white sheet with summer flowers and transformed it the next week by painting dragons eggs! They have also made nature fairies using sticks and natural objects.

This term, the children in Year 3 have been learning about biomes and vegetation belts in Geography. The children learnt all about the different biomes across the world and then created a 'Biome in a Box' to demonstrate their understanding of the climate, landscape, plants and animals in specific regions.

In History the children have been exploring the Maya civilisation who began long ago in a place called Mesoamerica. This huge area is made up of Mexico and part of Central America and a large part of this is rainforest. The children learnt all about event masks and death masks and then designed their own.

The RNLI visited the Year 2 children today. They learnt about the four rules for staying safe near water.
1. Stop and think.
2. Stay together.
3. Float
4. Call 999 or shout for help.

A big thank you to the parents and PTFA for purchasing our new maths resources.

Last week the Pre-school children went walking up the field looking at the summer trees when a little bee buzzed past.... this then inspired us to make our own bees to decorate our area with.
The children used glue and paint to make our bees with and they used their fine motor skills to cut out the wings.

Year 1 have been exploring in their Forest School session. They also built dens and whittled sticks.

Year 4 have been exploring gradients in their art lessons using watercolour paints. They first learnt how to mix watercolour paints correctly, before exploring how to create two different types of gradient, one with a single colour and one with two different colours. Children had to make sure they were blending their layers of colour well to get a smooth gradient down their page. They then used these skills to create a gradient sky painting.

Year 4 have been learning about electricity in their science lessons this half term. They have explored how to create working circuits, and this week the children investigated which materials conduct electricity or insulate against electricity. They planned their investigations, considering what they would keep the same and what they would change every time to make their test fair, before trialling the different materials in their circuits to see whether the electricity flowed through a conducting material to light up the bulb or whether it was blocked by an insulating material.

Reception and Year 1 enjoyed their forest school activities last week. They made butterflies and baked bread on a fire.

The Year 2's took inspiration from a book called Sky Colour where a little girl didn't know which colour paint to to create the sky as she couldn't find any blue. We used watercolours and then made 3D clouds and butterflies using card to make springs.
