Book Bear Recommends some bedtime books this week
Do you have a go-to favourite bedtime book?

Make the countdown to Christmas even more exciting with a Christmas book advent calendar!
Begin by collecting all of the festive and winter themed books you have on your bookshelves (you may be surprised how many there are).
If you don't have 24, consider scouring your local charity shops, asking friends if they have any you can borrow or borrow from your local library.
When you have your books, wrap each one up and number them 1 to 24.
You can then select the date each evening and read a lovely festive bedtime story with your little one before they go to bed.
Let us know if you'll be trying this, this year.

Do you worry that your child gets distracted whilst you are reading to them?
It's perfectly normal…!
Toddlers and younger children can sometimes become a bit distracted when reading to them but it's nothing to worry about.
Try these 6 tips which might help to keep distractions to a minimum, so you can both enjoy storytime as much as possible:
- Ask you child what they would like to read. If they have been involved in choosing the story they might be more interested in it.
-If you can, turn off devices such as TVs, radios and computers so there are as few external distractions as possible.
-Sit close together and encourage your child to turn the pages themself.
-Take a look at the pictures and point out different objects or characters that you can see.
-Ask questions about the book and give your child the time and space to talk and ask questions too. This can be a great way to help your child to talk about their emotions.
-Have fun! There isn't one single way to read a story - so use that funny voice and be more interactive - this may help to engage your little one even more.

To all that are celebrating today 🦃

These are the wonderful books we have been sharing in the class this week. Oliver Jeffers is one of my favourite children's authors! What do you like in your house?

We love this quote from Dr. Suess!
And he's absolutely right.
Research has proven that children who enjoy reading for pleasure are more likely to do well academically in all subjects, have a wide vocabulary to express themselves clearly, be more accepting of other people and cultures and gain an improved sense of well-being.

Did you know today is World Hello Day?
I was reading up on it and I was going to introduce myself and say "HELLO" but then I read about the reason behind it, and in this world we are dealing with at the moment - with all the conflict, I thought maybe I wouldn't
Instead, have a little read about World Hello Day and why not say hello to someone today? Fill the world with kindness and compassion
"World Hello Day was begun in response to the conflict between Egypt and Israel in the Fall of 1973. Since then, World Hello Day has been observed by people in 180 countries. People around the world use the occasion of World Hello Day as an opportunity to express their concern for world peace. Beginning with a simple greeting on World Hello Day, their activities send a message to leaders, encouraging them to use communication rather than force to settle conflicts"
HELLO TO YOU ALL 💔❤️

Today marks the start of anti-bullying week.
Are you wearing your odd socks to support?
When I was younger, I was bullied. I used to pretend I had a tummy ache so I didn't go to school. I loved school! But I didn't want to be there with the girls who used to pick on me just because my dad was in the Forces. Kids will choose anything to be mean! It took me ages to tell my parents 😢 it got better when I moved schools and went to secondary school.
I try my hardest to teach my kids to be kind, and support their friends and classmates whoever they are and in this day and age with so much changing with technology and bullying it's more important than ever to ingrain foundations early
So I will have my odd socks on today, and I will make a noise!

The start of a new week -- what have you got planned?
Hope you have a good one

Pictures can deliver so much more than words on their own.
As children sit and absorb the images in a book, they are taking in more information than the words alone. They are soaking up the deeper information they see in the pictures.
