Honoured to accept an invitation from the High Sheriff of Greater London Mrs Lynn Cooper to attend the High Sheriff's Service of Thanksgiving in Choral Evensong today in the magnificent setting of Southwark Cathedral to give thanks to the extraordinary contributions made during Covid by so many including the charitable and voluntary sector, NHS & emergency services, the Metropolitan Police, the Justice system, the Armed Forces and faith groups.

Prayers were also offered for the United Kingdom, for its unity, peace and concord, for our Queen and for all members of our Royal Family, for the High Court of Parliament, the Ministers of the Crown and all who bear responsibility for ordering our common life that it may be directed by justice, truth and integrity.

A wonderful evening with much to reflect upon especially locally where we have such a special sense of community exemplified by the amazing work of Horsell Prepared Horsell Second Thursday Club Horsell Schools PTA Horsell Village Show Horsell's The Resident Magazine Horsell Businesses The Horsell Village Wire The Horsell Village School Horsell Neighbourhood Watch Woking High School and nearly 500 volunteers who helped during Covid.

A big thank you from all of us at The Horsell Village School to everyone that headed out to support our wonderful Horsell Schools Pta on Saturday at the Christmas fair. The pta did a fantastic job organising and setting up the fair. Well done to a group of year 2 children who sang beautifully and a huge well done to all the children who contributed to our tree for ‘a brighter future ‘ that was on display in the church as part of the Christmas 🎄 tree festival. It’s certainly beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.

Today we stopped ,paused and reflected …

The celebration of our 170th birthday has been an opportunity to reflect on the time this building has stood here and contributed to the education of, by now thousands of local children.

We have some idea of our starting point, which for this building was 1851 but we do not have much idea of other parts of its story.

Did you know that during the Second World War, children went to school every other week, because numbers were swelled by evacuees from London? On the week not in school the children apparently were in the church, but not a lot of learning went on.

This wonderful snippet was passed on to us by someone who is no longer with us and it makes us aware of the wealth of history about our school that is possibly out there in our local community.

Information that will not always be available to us.

We would like to gather information; anecdotal, documents or photographs that can tell us about our school history, from 1851 until modern times.

We would like to create a historical resource that will be available for the children now and for future generations of children, about this wonderful place and about some of the people who have passed through its doors.

In order for us to create this resource we need your help.

We are looking for donations of personal anecdotes, photographs or other information about the school. If you have a passion for local history and would be willing to undertake a more in-depth search, using the resources of the Surrey History Centre then we would love to hear from you.

We realise that this is a big undertaking and we cannot do it on our own, so if you or anyone you know would be interested in helping us please do get in touch.

This term has now come to an end and what a year it has been in school. We could not have envisaged back in September what the year would bring us and how quickly we would have to adapt to all the changes that were thrown our way.

We would like to thank you all the parents for your
unwavering support over the last year.
Even though it has been a difficult and very different year from what a normal year would look like, we still have so much to celebrate.

To the children at The Horsell Village School. We are so proud of each and every single one of you. You have worked so hard this year both at home and at school and have grown in so many ways. You have shown incredible resilience in adapting to all the challenges that have come your way. Stand tall this summer, believe in yourselves and be proud of everything you have achieved.

Good luck to Year 2 – remember –‘You can be whatever you want to be – keep following your dreams’ – you will be amazing in your new schools.

To all the staff, without whom it would not have been possible to keep school running as well as it has. Each and every single member of staff has played a key role in their own way and for that we are truly thankful. Their dedication to every aspect of our protective Covid measures has enabled us to stay as open as much as we have. This has been alongside their dedication to provide our children with the best quality of education to enable them to achieve and fulfill their individual potentials. We cannot thank you all enough.

Have a wonderful summer! ☀️

Yesterday we celebrated sports day. The children took part in a variety of activities where they practised skills that worked on their agility, balance and co-ordination. They also took part in some races.

Today the children brought home a photo of them taking part as unfortunately we couldn’t have any parents with us this year.

Here are some photos of the activities before the children took part. Hopefully your child will be able to desrcibe what they did on the day!

Well done to all the children for an amazing sports day. Lots of points were earnt for our values: appreciation, honesty, respect, responsibility and co-operation.

Hello!
We hope you had a lovely half term and got to enjoy some of the sunshine that finally appeared! 🥳☀️It was great to see the children outside enjoying it today!

In the last newsletter we mentioned ‘The Big Horsell Hike’. A group from The Horsell Village School will be walking 18.51 miles (the year the school was built) along the North Downs Way to celebrate our 170th anniversary.

If you can, we would be most grateful if you could support us. The money raised will be going towards upgrading our outside areas. https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/horsell-village

For more information on our route (which you could join us on, if you desire!) please see the newsletter or speak to Miss May or Mrs Dukes.

Thank you! 👣

A couple of weeks ago we celebrated Earth Day as a school. As part of this learning, everybody in the school made a promise to the earth which we have now made into a display. There were promises such as turning off the water when you brush your teeth, walking to school and turning lights off. We look forward to seeing if everyone can keep their promise! 🌍💙💚
