Come and join us for the return of our annual ‘ Celebration of Learning’ event. The school will be open from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm. All visitors and members of the community welcome. The children have achieved so much this year - they can’t wait to share it with you.
Today the children all enjoyed an amazing performance of ‘Fantastic Fred’! We learnt all about our mental health and how important it is to look after it!
F is for food, ensuring we eat the right foods.
R is for rest, getting enough sleep.
E is for exercise, being active.
D is for devices, managing time on our devices.
The children have brought home a leaflet with them to remind them that good mental health matters!
Over the last two days each class has participated in a fun filled dance workshop led by Dance Woking. We finished with a whole school dance performance out on the playground to celebrate everyone’s achievements. Well done everyone …. I wonder how many of you will be participating in a dance lesson taught by the children at home tonight? 🙂Have a lovely weekend.
Today is the day!
Horsell Schools PTA Summer Fair is starting very soon. Pop down to the Junior School between 12 and 3pm for an afternoon of fun and games. A group of year two children from The Horsell Village School will be performing at 1:30 pm. We look forward to seeing you.
What a fantastic way to finish our Art History week. The children and staff all looked fabulous in their ‘dress for a decade’ outfits. We had a visit from a very special lady. All children were presented with a book to commemorate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We enjoyed our street party finishing with a good old sing 🎶 song.
Our entry into the Flowerpot Festival!
Well done to reception for making one of the characters from the story they have been learning! Big thanks to Ms King too for her sculpting skills! 🐛
First peak at the spectacular Platinum Jubilee Cake made by our very own Miss May May’s Makes 🎂
You have the chance to win this masterpiece and have it for your own celebration! 🎉 Get a raffle ticket this afternoon at ‘Proms in the Playground.’ 🎶
We are getting ready for our Jubilee celebration tomorrow- don’t forget to come dressed in red, white and blue should you wish to.
We can’t wait to see you all.
We Are Writers! 📚✏️
Every child in the school has contributed to a poem within this book, based on seasons or kindness. These have been written individually for Year 2, as a small group for Year 1 and a class poem where each child wrote a line for Reception.
We are so proud of the child for their lovely words.
If you would like to buy the book (or extra copies as gifts!) please log onto your scopay account.
Well done Writers!
The preparations continue… such lovely messages of ‘ thanks’ from our Year 2 classes to the Queen. Well done everyone.
We have been busy at school getting ready to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee. In the post today went 9 beautifully made cards- we hope she enjoys them.
Badger 🦡 Class had an amazing time at Forest School today. They worked hard as a team to build shelters and make crafts using the natural materials around them. Well done everyone.
Hedgehog 🦔 Class had an amazing finish to their Forest School experience today with toasted cheese bread and roasted marshmallows - yummy 😋
The School Council children had a busy afternoon learning about the Heathland so close to our School.
We found out about different living things and how they all can live alongside each other. From the spider's webs on the gorse bushes to knowing that nightjar birds nest on the ground in heathers and so much more! No sooner had we arrived at Horsell Birch when we saw the Beltie Galloway cows strolling towards the pond for a drink.... the very young calf following on behind. The children will share what they learnt at school and help us think carefully about how we can protect these amazing Heathlands.
A few pictures from Hedgehogs’ Forest School sessions this week. 😊
Welcome back! We hope you all had a lovely break.
Reception children kicked off their topic of ‘The Great Minibeast Adventure’ with a visit from the bug man (Simon Airey). Well done to all the children (and staff) for being brave!
We look forward to seeing your learning this half term! 🐛🐜🐍🦂🕷🦋🐝
From everyone here at The Horsell Village School we wish you a lovely break over the holidays. Enjoy viewing some of the super learning from this half term.
Reception had a wonderful sunny day at Godstone farm to finish their ‘Down on the farm’ topic. They enjoyed seeing, feeding and stroking lots of animals!
Thank you to all the adults who went today!
A big thank you from all of us at The Horsell Village School to everyone that headed out to support our wonderful Horsell Schools Pta on Saturday at the Christmas fair. The pta did a fantastic job organising and setting up the fair. Well done to a group of year 2 children who sang beautifully and a huge well done to all the children who contributed to our tree for ‘a brighter future ‘ that was on display in the church as part of the Christmas 🎄 tree festival. It’s certainly beginning to feel a lot like Christmas.
Today we stopped ,paused and reflected …
We have thought about how remembrance is thinking about the past but also looking forward to a peaceful future.
A huge thank you to the parents who came to help some of our staff yesterday. One part of our outside area is now ready for the delivery of our water wall!!
Great job everyone 👏🏻
Well done to all the children on their welly walk today! The rain held and the sun shone instead and they all enjoyed themselves.
Big thanks to all the staff and parents for walking too!
Thank you for all the sponsorship too, if you want to sponsor us, we would be most grateful!
The children at The Horsell Village School will be walking a route around Horsell to raise money for our outdoor learning environment.
Happy 170th Birthday to us!
We hope all the children and parents who joined us had a wonderful afternoon celebrating.
Well done to all the children for their amazing singing and a huge thank you to all the staff for their organising and support this afternoon.
Thank you to everyone who joined us, it was a fantastic afternoon, we hope you enjoyed yourselves! 🥳
The celebration of our 170th birthday has been an opportunity to reflect on the time this building has stood here and contributed to the education of, by now thousands of local children.
We have some idea of our starting point, which for this building was 1851 but we do not have much idea of other parts of its story.
Did you know that during the Second World War, children went to school every other week, because numbers were swelled by evacuees from London? On the week not in school the children apparently were in the church, but not a lot of learning went on.
This wonderful snippet was passed on to us by someone who is no longer with us and it makes us aware of the wealth of history about our school that is possibly out there in our local community.
Information that will not always be available to us.
We would like to gather information; anecdotal, documents or photographs that can tell us about our school history, from 1851 until modern times.
We would like to create a historical resource that will be available for the children now and for future generations of children, about this wonderful place and about some of the people who have passed through its doors.
In order for us to create this resource we need your help.
We are looking for donations of personal anecdotes, photographs or other information about the school. If you have a passion for local history and would be willing to undertake a more in-depth search, using the resources of the Surrey History Centre then we would love to hear from you.
We realise that this is a big undertaking and we cannot do it on our own, so if you or anyone you know would be interested in helping us please do get in touch.
Thank you to everyone for your generous donations for Woking Food Bank. I’m sure you will agree that this is a fantastic collection which I am sure will be gratefully received.
A few more from ‘Ground Force’ morning. Well done everyone
Thank you so much to the everyone who joined us for our ‘Ground Force’ morning. The school grounds are looking fabulous. We now have our new gardening beds installed, our sensory walkway cleared and our benches sanded ready for a new coat of paint.
We have done lots of other things to… see what you can spot Monday morning. Have a lovely weekend.
We cannot wait to see you Year 1 and 2 tomorrow to start a new year of learning! We look forward to seeing Reception in school from Tuesday too!
This term has now come to an end and what a year it has been in school. We could not have envisaged back in September what the year would bring us and how quickly we would have to adapt to all the changes that were thrown our way.
We would like to thank you all the parents for your
unwavering support over the last year.
Even though it has been a difficult and very different year from what a normal year would look like, we still have so much to celebrate.
To the children at The Horsell Village School. We are so proud of each and every single one of you. You have worked so hard this year both at home and at school and have grown in so many ways. You have shown incredible resilience in adapting to all the challenges that have come your way. Stand tall this summer, believe in yourselves and be proud of everything you have achieved.
Good luck to Year 2 – remember –‘You can be whatever you want to be – keep following your dreams’ – you will be amazing in your new schools.
To all the staff, without whom it would not have been possible to keep school running as well as it has. Each and every single member of staff has played a key role in their own way and for that we are truly thankful. Their dedication to every aspect of our protective Covid measures has enabled us to stay as open as much as we have. This has been alongside their dedication to provide our children with the best quality of education to enable them to achieve and fulfill their individual potentials. We cannot thank you all enough.
Have a wonderful summer! ☀️
