“From a young age, i have always wanted to study medicine. What ignited my drive was the compromising healthcare recieved by many across the globe due to lack of standardisation.
My own grandfather's diagnosis was missed and the treatment unavailable where he lived. At a young age, this affirmed my resolve to work in healthcare and provide good healthcare globally. In my career so far, i have had the privilege of serving as the only medic in a rural setting, in a developing country. I have also had the opportunity to train in one of the best cardiothoracic centres in the world.
My goal continually changing, striving to better myself and serve the greater community. Medicine has provided me with opportunities in leadership, healthcare, allowed me to write and publish and work in research.
What started as a passion has now become my life and I cannot imagine doing anything else!”

Today Bishop's pupils and staff were enjoying the four beautifully crafted and very useful benches which were gifted by our Bishop's Hatfield Old Girls' Association to replace the old ones. Each of them bears a different inspirational engraving.
Some of the BHOGA members started at the school (formerly known as Hatfield Girls' Grammar School) when it opened in September 1960.
The Bishop's Hatfield Girls' School alumni network is constantly evolving to connect, inspire and support our current and former pupils. If you would like to be part of this rich alumni community and, like these former pupils, give something back, please join our NEW digital hub now (even if you have registered before). We have teamed up with education charity Future First to make our alumni network further reaching and more interactive.

Our next workshop holder is Sam! 🌳🌻

“My workshop will follow my academic and life choices that led me to study one of the most current and prevalent hot topics; the environment. I will guided the students through how and why I chose my A-Levels, the factors that influenced my choice of degree and university, and what I plan to do with my skill set to help shape the future of this planet. By the end of the workshop I hope to convey that it is normal not to have a life plan at the age of 16 and to emphasise that the most important thing anyone can do is make the most of every opportunity possible.”

08/07/2019

Our next workshop holder to be revealed is Jo 💥 Jo is no stranger to us here at our Alumna Days as she ran a workshop with us at our first ever event in 2016. Jo is an International Public Speaker and Buisness Owner.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"What makes me, me? As Oscar Wilde says, ‘Be yourself because everyone else is taken!’ We are all blessed with a unique set of gifts and skills to use in the world. I will be sharing my journey with you from when I left Bishops Hatfield Girls School 35 years ago in 1984 to now running my own business in 2019. I will also be sharing key models and questions to help you connect to the uniqueness of you, your core values, your wheel of life and concepts I've found useful in achieving my own goals."

07/07/2019

Our next workshop holder is Caroline! Her workshop will be about 'Life as an Archivist' 🏛🗼⛲
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Wondering what an Archivist is? Or just unsure about your future career path? This workshop will focus on what an Archivist does, the challenges and benefits of working in the Heritage sector and why it’s okay to change your mind about your career. I’ll share some of the diverse experiences and difficulties I have had working in an industry fuelled by fixed term contracts, how I identified what is most important to me in my career, and how I keep a balance with what is important to me outside of my work."

06/07/2019

Five days to go till
💥 Our next workshop holder to be revealed is Karen! Karen is a qualified Solicitor. She attended Bishops from 1982 - 1989.

"In my workshop we will explore the various values that have shaped my career decisions including: my decision to read Law at Robinson College , my decision to qualify as a solicitor, my decision to practice in the City and then in house, my decision to teach and finally my decision to return to private practice in 2015 into the role I have today."

05/07/2019

6 days to go! Our next workshop holder is Serin! Serin is an undergraduate student studying Architecture 🏡
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"My workshop will give an insight into studying and working in the field of Architecture and how my journey at BHGS gave me the opportunity to study my dream course. With architecture being a male dominated field, this will hopefully inspire more girls to follow a career in building design, engineering and even construction. Hopefully by the end of the workshop, students will have a better understanding about what being an architect entails and also be motivated to achieve their desired goals for the future."

04/07/2019

Our next workshop holder to be revealed is Ntami! Ntami works in the Human Resources sector. She says:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"Human Resources (HR) is more than just the typical assumption of hiring and firing. There are so many sub-disciplines within the field such as Learning and Development, Organisation Design and even Analysis and Strategic HR. In my workshop, I will be discussing what HR is and its importance for the future work. HR has a big role to play in developing future talent and supporting and nurturing existing talent. I also will be discussing my experience after Bishop’s and how I got into the field of HR.

03/07/2019

8 days to go till ! Our next workshop holder to be revealed is Rebecca.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"My workshop will address the book publishing industry, what people who work in publishing do all day, pathways into the industry, the story of how I got where I am today, and which skills and values might guide you to pursue a career in publishing."

02/07/2019

Our next workshop holder to be revealed in our countdown is Heather! Heather works as a Civil Servant and has served in the Immigration Service for over 30 years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"My workshop will focus on how my personal values and skill set influenced my career path. I will explain where my language skills and curiosity about different cultures inspired me to join the Immigration Service in 1986. I will talk about the extensive experience and opportunities I have had to travel, to work on high profile events such as the London Olympics and Brexit planning and in public facing roles at busy border controls. I will talk about why I wanted to be a public servant and contribute to the security and prosperity of the UK"

01/07/2019

10 days remaining till ! We are super excited for the day and can't wait for our workshop holders to deliver their workshops to 150 of our Year 10 students 💥 Each day leading up to the Alumna Day, we will be revealing our workshop holders - let the countdown begin!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Kaelin is a Design Engineer and will be talking about all things Engineering and STEM. "I will be talking through my journey to becoming an engineer; including the failures and fumbles along the way. It would be great to use this opportunity to highlight the misconceptions I had about STEM subjects; more specifically engineering and tie in what personal attributes I now understand to be key things which drive successful individuals in this area."
