St John's CofE Digswell

St John's Church of England Primary School is a one-form entry school in the heart of Digswell, Welwyn.

This promises to be an excellent event! It would be lovely to see as many of you there as possible.

Thought of the day in Year 4 this morning.

Save the date. Come along and listen to our choir sing at 10:15am.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.

At 11am today the school bell rung and the whole school stopped for a minute of silence and reflection. Here are the children in Nursery and Reception coming together for a minute of silence led by Mrs Athill.

It was great to see so many family members present at our Harvest Festival. Thank you to all who were able to come.
On behalf of the WGC foodbank can I thank you for your generosity in these hard times for the hugely generous gifts the children brought. It was really appreciated.
Don't forget that our Church Cafe at St John's is open every Friday morning from 9am til 12noon - it's a great place to relax after dropping the children off from school. There is wi-fi and it's dog friendly too. It would always be nice to see you any Friday.

Year 6 have had a great 1st day - fingers crossed for a good nights sleep.

This term, teachers have been completing 6 modules on ‘Decolonising and Diversifying the Curriculum’ as part of our continued drive to enhance our curriculum offer. Modules from the Chartered College of Teaching have included: defining decolonisation, knowing our histories, why decolonise and diversify the curriculum, approaches in how, belonging in literature and conversations about race.

Lost dog. Looking for owner. Do you recognise this dog? One of our children saw this friendly dog at the Viaduct Car Park and brought it into school in the hope that we could find its rightful owner. If this dog belongs to you, then please contact the school office on 01438714283.

Huge congratulations to our team of Year 5 children who participated in a Maths Challenge. They did great incredibly well!

Reminder - suggested donation £2 - non uniform day - wear a red nose - bring a game from home to play at school at 1pm.

I’m pleased to share that on Friday night, Miss Byatt had a baby girl, weighing 7lb 3oz. She’s been named Dulcie and both Dulcie and mum are doing well. To think that Friday was just Miss Byatt’s first week of maternity leave.

On Monday 27th February we have author, Michael Catchpool visiting the school. He will be reading one of his books to the children and speaking about why and how he became an author. Michael Catchpool has a very impressive CV and as well as being a former Headteacher, he’s a current Hertfordshire Improvement Partner.

Date for the diary - don’t miss out.
(Edited with the correct date)

Yesterday we celebrated Epiphany with a Eucharist Service in school, led by Father Rob. Year 4 received a blessing; Year 6 were responsible for reading the bible passage and Year 5 were responsible for our prayers. We also welcomed Revd Sue Stilwell to the school.

Merry Christmas everyone from us all at St John’s.

Due to severe weather conditions and the health and safety for all in travelling to/from school, our site will be closed. Please see email for further details.
