Weekly Newsletter
Friday 11th July 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
As we enter the final week of the 24–25 academic year, it’s a moment to reflect on what has been a truly incredible year at Mead. Our children have made fantastic progress, overcome challenges, and embraced every opportunity to grow, both personally and academically.
One of the standout highlights for me has been the many moments we’ve shared together as a school community. Whether it’s been sports events, parent workshops, performances, or whole-school celebrations, these moments have truly captured what makes Mead so special.
Your ongoing support has been unwavering, and we can’t thank you enough. In school, we often use the phrase: “Together we can!”—and this absolutely includes you. Everything we’ve achieved this year has been made possible through your partnership and encouragement.
We’re looking forward to seeing many of you at our Farewell Picnic on Friday 18th July, please refer to the letter from Mrs Wagstaff for more details.
Children may continue wearing PE kit for the remainder of the term and we are gratefully accepting donations of good-quality school uniform.
📅 Key Dates:
Last day of term: Friday 18th July
Return to school: Wednesday 3rd September
And in true Mead style… keep an eye out next week for something special. Our end of year staff video will be shared in place of the newsletter to celebrate another amazing year together!
Wishing you all a safe, restful, and joyful summer break.
Together we can! 💚
Kindest regards,
Ms A Holmes
Headteacher
Important Information
Goodbyes and New Beginnings
As we reach the end of the school year, we are also saying goodbye to three valued members of staff who have each made a meaningful contribution to life at Mead.
Miss Bergasse, our Maths Lead and Year 5 Year Group Leader will be stepping away from Mead at the end of this term to explore new opportunities and take time for personal development. She has been an inspiring leader, a committed teacher, and a much-loved member of our team. While she’ll be greatly missed, this is not necessarily goodbye forever and we hope to welcome her back in the future.
Miss Burt-Davis, who has supported pupils both in the ARP and across mainstream classes, will also be moving on to a new school. She has played a key role in nurturing and supporting so many children across the school and has brought warmth and dedication to every role she has undertaken.
Mrs Bernardes will be leaving us to take an exciting next step in her career. Following further training, she has secured a new opportunity at another school where she will continue to develop and grow professionally. Her calm, caring approach and unwavering support for her pupils will be greatly missed.
We thank each of them for their dedication, care and hard work, and we wish them all the very best in their next chapters. Once a part of Mead, always a part of Mead. 💚
Reports and Open Evening – Report Follow-Up
Children will be bringing home their end-of-year reports today. Please take time to read through them together and celebrate their successes and hard work. They’ve truly earned it. A reminder that our Open Evening will take place on Monday between 3pm and 4pm. This is an opportunity for parents and carers to speak with teachers about their child’s end-of-year report. No appointments are necessary, please drop in during the hour if you would like to discuss your child’s progress.
Mobile Phones – School Policy Reminder
Mobile phones should not be brought into school unless a signed mobile phone agreement is already in place. These agreements are only available to children who walk to and from school independently. Any phones brought in without permission will be held securely and returned to a parent or carer.
AirTags & Tracking Devices – Important Reminder
A reminder that tracking devices such as Apple AirTags are not permitted in school or on school trips.
While we understand that families may wish to feel reassured about their child’s safety, these devices raise serious safeguarding, privacy, and security concerns.
Key concerns include:
Privacy risks, including tracking without a child’s informed consent
Location sharing, which could endanger children—especially those with specific safeguarding needs
Disruption to school trip management and protocols
We encourage parents to trust in our robust safeguarding systems. If you have specific concerns about your child’s safety, please speak with a member of staff in advance.
Full guidance is available on the school website.
Labubu Dolls – Not Permitted in School
Please note that Labubu dolls and similar soft toys are not allowed in school. These items can cause distraction during learning time and are not appropriate for the school setting. We appreciate your support in keeping toys at home.

Dear Parents and Carers,
What a busy and brilliant week it’s been!
Thank you to all parents and carers for your understanding and support with the optional early collection on Tuesday due to the hot weather. Your cooperation helped us manage the day safely and smoothly, and we really appreciate it.
A huge well done to our Year 6 pupils who took part in their residential trip this week—you stepped outside your comfort zones, embraced new challenges, and quite literally reached new heights! We are incredibly proud of you. Thank you also to the dedicated staff team who gave their time and energy to make the experience such a success.
This week, we were also proud to host the Havering Collective SEND Festival, welcoming children from across the borough for a day filled with fun, inclusive activities. The event was filled with laughter, teamwork, and joy—beautifully summed up by one child who said, “This has been the best day of my life.”
What a fantastic week to be part of the Mead community! 💚
Kindest regards,
Ms A Holmes

Important Information
Respecting Our School Environment and Local Community
We have recently been contacted by one of our neighbours, who witnessed a member of our school community removing litter from their car and discarding it onto Amersham Road. This behaviour is not acceptable and does not reflect the values we promote as a school.
We are also aware of an increase in general littering around the school site at drop-off and pick-up times. As a school, we are now required to comply with new waste management regulations aimed at improving sustainability and reducing environmental impact. This includes stricter controls around the collection and disposal of all waste on school premises.
We kindly ask all parents and carers to support us by taking rubbish home or using the bins provided, and by setting a positive example for our pupils. Let’s continue working together to ensure our school and local community remain clean, safe, and respectful environments for everyone.
Year 6 End of Year Production
Year 6 will be performing their end-of-year production titled "I'm a Year Six – Get Me Out of Here!" on Monday 14th July at 2:00pm in the Key Stage 2 hall. We’re excited to share this special event with you and look forward to seeing you there!

Weekly Newsletter
Friday 27th June 2025
Dear Parents and Carers,
On Monday, I had the honour of visiting Havering Town Hall to meet the Mayor and receive recognition on behalf of Mead for the outcome of our Ofsted inspection. The event celebrated the incredible work taking place across Havering schools, and it was a proud moment to see our school acknowledged.
This recognition is a reflection of the dedication, care, and commitment that our staff demonstrate every day to support and inspire your children. It is also a tribute to the whole Mead community—our staff, pupils, and families. Thank you for the ongoing support you continue to give; it truly makes a difference.
On Tuesday, it was a pleasure to welcome our new Reception parents and carers into the Mead community during their first welcome meeting. This time of year always reminds us how quickly the school year passes and how important transition is for all of our pupils.
This week, the children also began meeting their new teachers for the next academic year. These transition sessions are a valuable opportunity for children to begin forming positive relationships, ask questions, and feel more confident about the year ahead. They will meet with their new teachers two more times before the summer break.
And finally, a huge thank you and well done to the Friends of Mead for organising our incredible Summer Carnival 2025! The event was full of fun, laughter, and community spirit. We’re so grateful for the time and energy they give to creating such memorable experiences for our children and families.
Thank you again for your continued support. Mead is what it is because of the strength of our whole school community. 💚
Kindest regards,
Ms A Holmes
Headteacher

Farewell and Best Wishes to Mrs Mackman
Next week, we say a fond farewell to Mrs Mackman, who has now completed her teacher training here at Mead and is ready to take on her very own class in September. Mrs Mackman has been a valued member of the Mead team since 2017. Throughout her time with us, she has brought warmth, dedication, and a true passion for working with children. She will be greatly missed by staff and pupils alike, but we are incredibly proud of her achievements and excited for all that lies ahead. We wish Mrs Mackman every success and happiness in her new role.
