Having fun chasing the light at Wisley last week. That Acer palmatum 'Osakazuki' was spectacular in the autumn sunshine!

A nostalgic trip to the small but perfectly formed village of Chilham in Kent, complete with cosy tea room, castle, church, an abundance of timber-framed buildings and an agreeably photogenic cat. We were last here in 1985! Also a brief tour of Canterbury, which has changed quite a lot since our student days.

The magical quality of autumn light - a photographer's dream!

The delightfully picturesque Surrey village of Shere - renowned for its beautiful old buildings, Hilly's teashop, and for providing the backdrop to some of the scenes of the 2006 film The Holiday, starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet.

Welcome back to mist, cobwebs and berries!

The wonderfully-named Chicken of the Woods fungus, which we discovered on a recent walk. It is edible, but apparently it doesn't agree with everyone, so we left it well alone!

Happy World Photo Day! There's been a shortage of subjects to photograph lately owing to the dry weather, but now that autumn's approaching things are starting to look more interesting.

A trip back in time to the amazing Weald & Downland Museum. It's also the filming location for The Repair Shop - one of my favourite programmes. If you don't watch it, you should; pure balm for the soul!

I'm no sports photographer, but I couldn't resist trying out my camera panning skills during the annual Guildford town cycle race the other evening. It was rather exhilarating! Back to flowers next week, though!

There I was minding my own business, photographing some lavender, when this young robin landed right at my feet. It hung around for quite a while, until it realised I had no eats; then it abandoned me for some people with sandwiches - faithless creature!

A very colourful, and very hot Hampton Court Flower Show. We made a beeline for the shade!

A spring miscellany - blossom, a very tame blackbird, and the first tulips emerging in Guildford castle.

I've spent so much time lately photographing blossom that I've only just got round to editing, processing and uploading the 100's of photos I've taken. Anyway, here are just 4 to be going along with!

Given the horrors unfolding in Ukraine right now, being able to enjoy the sunshine and the sounds of birds and happy families in this little corner of Sussex on Saturday really made me count my blessings.

I never get tired of this view - especially on a morning like today's.

For the galanthus lovers amongst you. Photographing these is definitely not a good idea when you have a bad back, but how could I resist?

A month of contrasts, weather-wise. Brilliant sunshine, bees and blossom, followed by mist and fog.

Apologies for the surfeit of robins, but there's something ridiculously pleasing about leaving a trail of crumbs and then watching the first hungry visitor approach. I have hopes of getting this one to feed from my hand eventually - it came really close, but then changed its mind at the last minute!

Having taken so many photos over the last 19 months (mainly of my local area) I thought I'd choose 12 as a mini photographic retrospective of my 2021 - it wasn't easy. Anyway, here they are. Happy New Year!
