Year 3 have had an incredible school trip to Butser Ancient Farm today. With the greatest enthusiasm, they took part in a variety of exciting activities which included flint wall building, clay pot making, completing an archaeological dig and touring Iron Age houses and Roman villas. We would like to say well done to all the Year 3 children for their marvellous behaviour today on the trip. In addition, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our kind volunteers for helping us today.

What better way to end a half-term than with an almighty bang in our Indian drumming workshop. This week, Year 3 enjoyed learning about Indian music and trying out different drums 🥁

Year 6 on the Isle of Wight.

The wet weather hasn't managed to dampen any spirits today. The children have participated in lots of different activities already and they can't wait to see what the rest of the week has to offer!

This week, Year 3 have been busy making delicious and nutritious snacks🍓🥗🍏 Firstly, they designed their snack making sure to consider the different mixtures of sweet and savoury flavours. The highlight, of course, was tasting their healthy snack! There were a lot of happy faces😁

It’s going to be a hot one! ☀️ 🥵

Due to the high temperatures forecast and to ensure everyone is safe in the sun, we kindly request that children bring a water bottle and sun hat to school every day this week. Please also apply sun cream to your child in the morning or ensure they bring in one that they are able to apply themselves.

In Year 3, the children have been super busy researching their local area and creating a PowerPoint presentation. They have been using field work to find the answers to: why do people live in Fleet and how can Fleet town centre be improved? 🧐

Year 3 would also like to say a big THANK YOU to those who helped the children fill out the questionnaires.

Using just a pair of wire clippers, a pair of pliers and finger-friendly PVC coated wire, artist Will from ChickenWIRED has worked with all pupils this week to help them create their own 3D sculpture. 🦜What a fabulous activity to finish a busy half term!

We look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Wednesday 8th June.

A fantastic visit for our Year 6 children to the Natural History Museum. Thank you to everyone who helped make the day so successful.

Having found a strange book hidden in the library, it finally revealed its story to Year 4 yesterday. They met 'Lunar' and listened to her tale. A lucky few even got to help train the dragon and star in our own short movie using green screen technology 🐲

The final Year 6 morning group took place on Friday as preparations for SATs drew to a close.

Good luck to all our amazing Year 6s next week - we’re incredibly proud of you and know that you’ll absolutely smash it! 🫶🏻😀

The highlight of the week for Year 3 was certainly their trip to RHS Garden Wisley. As the children explored the gardens, they were mesmerised by the vast amount of plants on show. The children sketched a variety of plants, learnt how fruits and vegetables are grown from seed and discovered tropical plants in the famous greenhouse🌼🌻🌺

Year 4 were amazed today by the beautiful creatures presented by Jonathan's Jungle Roadshow. What an inspirational launch to their writing topic on 'Endangered Animals'! 🕷🦂🐍

Coram Life Education worked with every class this week, to enhance their PSHE learning. A highlight was meeting Harold the Giraffe 🦒

Today, Velmead welcomed nine schools to participate in the inaugural Pulman Shield cross country relay event. The weather we ordered was spot on 🌞 and all athletes ran superbly along our unique cross country course. Well done to all those that took part! 🏅

"Are you not entertained?"

Well, Year 3 certainly were during their Roman day. They expanded the Roman Empire, played classic Roman games, handled precious artefacts and ended the day entering the amphitheatre to compete in a bit of gladiator fighting

Year 3 and 5 Cookery Club baked these chocolate chip cookies today 🍪 If only you could smell the deliciousness! 😋

Following Hampshire County Council advice, Velmead is closed today due to the red weather warning issued by the Met Office.

This week, Year 5 have been busy learning safe bicycle skills. Thanks to all those involved with ensuring bikes were in school 🚴

Cue the Jurassic Park theme tune because today Year 3 became Paleontologists and Geologists. The children uncovered fossils, investigated rocks and closely observed million year old dinosaur bones 🦖🦕

Cookery Club👩‍🍳 began today for some of our children in Year 4 and 6. The kitchen in Chestnuts was filled with the delicious aroma of tomato and bacon muffins 🥓 🍅 Yummy 😋

Eco Rangers 🌳🌿 experienced ‘Forest School’ this afternoon. The drizzly weather didn’t deter them from using palm drills and potato peelers to make a host of objects from sundials to necklaces. All completed under the tarpaulin den built by the team ⛺️
