Eileen White, who we hope will be joining as a member once we are able to return to the Kiln, uses walking as a methodology of embodied perception, embracing the unknown and being in the moment.

She is a proponent of alternative and traditional techniques, used while working towards a more environmentally sustainable practice, and researches pigments to use as stains, toners & inks in her work. Eileen develops her negatives using home-made plant recipes and scans them digital using a homemade, DIY scanner.

Eileen is also honoured to have been recently welcomed as part of the team at The Sustainable Darkroom. This initiative was founded by Hannah Fletcher in 2019 from the London Alternative Photography Collective as a global network & programme, expanding the interest and demand for research and development in tackling environmental issues within analogue photography.

Eileen hopes to contribute by continuing to promote researching ways that help to create a future that is not driven by materialism and speed but instead is rooted in spiritual values of reverence for nature, interconnectedness, stewardship and compassion. Finding ways to express this by becoming an instrument of change means actively adopting sustainable approaches to making and processing work.

All these featured images have been posted on her Instagram page (@eileenwhiteart), please do follow her.

Good morning all, hope you had a good weekend and are staying healthy. We're counting down the days until we can get back into the Kiln but will continue to share the work our members have made during lockdown until then. Here's a still life triptych from Angela Shaw. Jan Ramscar has been resurrecting some images from the past while sorting out all her boxes of prints.

She says: "These are colour photograms, produced by laying translucent textiles on top of the flowers on the photographic paper. They are a bit tricky to photograph as the gloss surface gives all kinds of unwanted reflections. Composition is also tricky with this technique, as it all has to be done in total darkness - I always used to quip that I spent my time doing flower arranging in the dark! The ‘hit’ rate was pretty low! I had a lot of prints where the flowers would be disturbed when I put the textile over the top .... very frustrating, and it would not be apparent until I had put the print through the colour processor."

Glyn Powell-Evans has been busy during the various lockdowns creating new views of Great Tangley Manor, a lovingly restored, Grade I listed, 11th Century Moated Manor House. We previously showed his photo and video of the re-enactment of an astronomer discovering Saturn's moon Titan in 1665.

The photograph of the library is a 6 shot HDR with mixed lighting and the dining room is a 12 shot HDR/Panorama to get a wide view of it. Both photos required digital adjustments.

Also shown is the cover for his book about Brighton and which has sold well for the Topic of Cancer charity. It was created and launched during lockdown. You can see more and order it on his website: https://powell-evans.com/test

Wagtail and tit by Kiln member Dionissi Lychnos printed on aluminium using liquid light emulsion. In the vertically split photograph you can see the toning process on the tit from the previous picture; from cyanotype through bleaching and finally toned print (toned using tea). He is considering doing the next toning test with coffee.

You can follow Dionissi’s alternative photo practice on Instagram (@Dionissi123) where he gets up to all sorts of things, he’s a great experimenter.

Our members have been keeping their eye in during the latest lockdowns and now that restrictions are easing we wanted to share a few of their photos.

It might be spring but we've been having crazy weather changes lately, even a light dusting of snow earlier this week here in west Surrey. As such feels appropriate to post these snowdrop pictures from earlier in the year by member Jeremy Belasco
