If we look Eastwards, to the world of Zen and the martial arts, we’ll see that intention (known as Yi or wisdom-mind) is a highly focused form of attention directed towards the required outcome minus any internal dialogue about how it will be achieved and void of any emotional investment in the results. Yi describes a steady yet cool flame borne in part from a mind empty of all extraneous thoughts, including personal ambition and attachment.
It is the state which allows an archer to synchronise balance, breathing, and centering with the release of the arrow to the target, and the calligraphy artist to paint the Ensō circle in a single, continuous move without self-interfering thoughts.
