GWC Class of 79

GWC Class of 79

Dear Class of 1987

40th Anniversary Reunion, Saturday 5 October 2019

Yes, it's nearly 40 years since you left Watson's!

It is my pleasure to invite you all back to School on Saturday 5 October to attend your 40th Anniversary Reunion.

The first part of your reunion will commence at 10.30 am in the Dining Hall where you can meet up with your former classmates, view some memorabilia from your time at School - old school photos, publications and other material that you will have forgotten about, tour the campus at your leisure (or take a guided tour with a pupil) and see what's changed, what's not, and enjoy catching up with your friends.

I will be working with a member of the class of '79 to arrange an evening event in Edinburgh and we will be in touch again once details have been finalised. I would be very grateful if anyone would be interested in helping with arrangements for the proposed evening event. If you would like to help, please contact me on [email protected]

I look forward to hearing from you. Please contact me on [email protected] to register your interest in attending the Class of 1979 Reunion. Also, please spread the word amongst your classmates and ask them to get in touch with me if they haven't heard about the reunion.

Best wishes,

Morven Skirving
Oops wrote a post and it disappeared...
Right you '79ers, prove your memories are still intact and see if you can come up with the winners of the house choir competitions of '78 ( fifth year ) and '79 ( sixth ) and with WHAT SONG in each case. Gary Banks and I think we have the answers. Colin Nicolson is cup tied, ie can't compete 😜
Wee memory teaser for all '79ers...anybody recall the house choir competitions ? I think Cockburn won it in our fifth year, singing "When I'm 64" ( only ten years away, BTW 😳) and Gary Banks also remembers Oglivie winning with "the Entertainer" - would that have been in our sixth year ?
Answers on a postcard...
When's the next reunion?
Please sir, can I join ?

Ok folks, was trying to remember who taught my primary class 3E. Any of you remember?

Merry Christmas fellow class of 79ers! Hope you and your families have a wonderful time!

Heard today that Alan Begg from the class of 79, passed away in April of this year. So sad!

Happy New Year to all Class of 79ers

Hope you and your family have a great time over the festive period

What was good about last Saturday, the fact that with so many people, the past 35 years just disappeared and you took up where you left off!. Thank you to the Skirving family for organising such a great night!

Looking forward to catching up with you all. 35 years - holy crap!

Interested in a 35 year reunion, get in touch with Carol Skirving on Facebook

Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year to all my fellow GWC class of 79!

Untitled album 03/05/2013

Anybody recognise this teacher (the older of the two in the photo!!)??

When's the next reunion?

Who's still in Edinburgh? One of my Uni girls' XV is up there at the mo doing the cultural bit (she's Spannish - great scrum-half) and looking for advice on where to go & what to see. She's tea-total so my advice on pubs is no good and she's already done Murrayfield! Although I have pointed her at Mike Miller's place (wash bar?) - not sure that'll get her a free coffee though ;-)

Happy New Year to you all!!

So folks how did the reunion go, where are the photos?

Just a reminder! GWC class of 79' reunion at The Wash Bar 3rd September 2011.Please spread the word and reply on FB GWC Class of 79 Unofficial Reunion 2011 or let Lucy Bowman know!!

Good morning folks,

Just looking to start the ball rolling for the next unofficial reunion which is happening this year. The Wash Bar is still provisionally booked for the 3rd of September so let me know if you are interested and spread the word to those that are still in the dark ages and not on Facebook.

Here's wishing everybody on this list a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, wherever you are! Cheers

Hi all. Next year’s unofficial reunion (2011!) is to be at The Wash Bar (top of the mound) courtesy of Mike Miller on 3rd Sept. Please let as many people know as possible. Once anyone knows if they can come can you e-mail me - [email protected] so I can get an idea of numbers. See you there!

Well folks, I hope a great night was had by all who attended! Talks are already underway for next year, so watch this space. Hopefully more of you can attend.

Is the reunion still going ahead?

Hi folks, is the Reunion in September still going ahead???

Virgin London Marathon fundraising and more - JustGiving

Please dig deep (and ignore the "London Marathon" reference......)
It'd seem that, in a moment of alcohol induced madness (who? me?), I "volunteered" to take part in an almost 100 mile cycle ride from Taunton, Somerset back to my current rugby club (Romsey, Hampshire) to raise funds for Help 4 Heroes. Had it not been suc...h a worthwhile cause I may have withdrawn as soon as I'd sobered up! But I didn't.

We ride in pairs (10 miles on, 10 miles off etc.) as a group of 40+ riders and, for some other bizarre, yet to be explained reason, I seem to be the only one to be dressed as a nurse (at least the top half) to add comedy value.

Please, if only for the comedy value alone (pictures will, no doubt, be posted for all to see at some point - if not as we ride) drop a couple of quid in the pot at the "JustGiving" web site.

Many thanks, in advance. Gary
