'The future can be shaped, be curious and critical and develop your communication and creativity skills'.
These key messages were delivered by Jonny Greenhill, Director and Investment Specialist at Baillie Gifford to the S6 WWF Sustainable Futures Interest Class. Jonny highlighted current ‘sustainable shifts’ that have seen 89% of global populations living in countries with net zero targets, exponential growth in solar energy production, decrease in the cost of EV batteries and increased interest in responsible investment.
Pupils were encouraged to see that all careers and sectors will have to consider sustainability, and that we should each feel empowered to drive positive change. Huge thanks to Jonny Greenhill for visiting Heriot’s and giving an insightful and hopeful presentation.

Curious , caring creativity. P7S explored the theme of 'Conflict and Resolution' through an engaging inquiry project on World War II. Each student dove into an aspect of the war that sparked their curiosity, presenting findings in a creative way of their choice. From detailed reports to video news interviews to interactive displays, their hard work and enthusiasm brought history to life! Extra colour added by it being a non-uniform day . . .

Right from the start of term, P1 children have counted every day at school. Today marks a 100 days of P1 with plentiful celebrations! We enjoyed many activities, from those that lasted 100 seconds, to counting out 100 individual Cheerios to create a necklace and decorating fairy cakes with ‘hundreds and thousands’ and the number 100.

If the sun is a natural light source and a lighthouse is a man-made light source, then what is our campfire?
P1 have been thinking about light and dark, using a blind trail to find our way with no light at all and watching the lit flames dance off the campfire and into the air at Yellowcraig.

To celebrate the Lunar New Year, (Year of Snake), Junior and Senior School pupils enjoyed the Lion Dance in the School Hall, learnt about Lunar New Year traditions in different countries and made sliding paper snakes. The School Refectory team kindly created Fortune Bags for all Mandarin learners. Many thanks to everyone who took part - we wish you 蛇年快乐 Shé nián kuàilè (Happy Year of Snake).

Yesterday in the Nursery, children learned how people across the world celebrate the Lunar New Year, enjoying stories about the celebration and its customs. They learned 2025 would be the Year of the Snake and created snakes by threading pasta and cutting out paper spiral snakes.
The children learned that red and gold are considered lucky colours. At group time, they made red envelopes, filled with a special surprise at home time; tangerines, noodles and tofu were enjoyed!
After learning about dragon dancing, children made paper concertina dragons and took part in dragon dancing in the garden. Using red and gold, the children painted a large cardboard dragon head, then formed the dragon's body. They incorporated percussion instruments in the dance, controlling the speed of the dancing by varying the tempo of the music.
