Covid update:

Please skip to 36 minutes to see a news clip on how the childcare sector has been affected by Covid19.

This might give families more understanding of the difficulties nurseries are facing right now in order to stay open and support their valued families and wonderful children. Hopefully this difficult period will raise awareness of an undervalued sector which is absolutely essential to the economy. Hopefully the government will choose to provide the sector with the critical support needed for it to sustain itself.

We here at Little Leaders we are passionate about providing high quality care and education for all children and we have invested a lot to ensure we can be open for our families and continue to provide the care and education our parents are looking for.

More needs to be done to support the childcare sector to bounce back from this difficult time so that more nurseries do not have to close their doors.

More needs to be done to support families all over the country to have access to high quality childcare and education.

This is something that is now starting to be listened to and hopefully a resolution can be found by the government to support the childcare sector.

My thoughts are with all those hardworking and dedicated teams that have had to close their doors with many jobs lost after years of hard work and dedication to their families.

I would like to thank our families and the local community for the support we have received throughout the lockdown period including OneStonegrove who have not only supported us but many families in our local community throughout this difficult time.

Thank you

Here are some more photo's of our Edgware children focusing on their pre-school learning!

They spent their time this morning placing numbers in order 1-20 and then counting objects on the cards to place them with the correct numbers. They did this as a team and with very little support.

Each child got to have a turn as the children made sure that everyone had a go. Well done my very big children! I am going to miss you all when you go to big school.

This month at Little Leaders Stonegrove we are focusing on healthy eating with our focus on fruits and vegetables. This week is tropical fruits week!

Thank you to the parents and children who have been bringing in their favourite tropical fruits to share the children have been very excited walking into nursery with big watermelons and pineapples this week!

After washing the vegetables and everyone washing their hands too.

The children have enjoyed holding the vegetables talking about their different textures, colours and shapes. They then helped to chop the fruits with adult supervision and support.

The children have then also enjoyed tasting the different fruits to try new tastes and talk about the flavour if it is sweet, sour, juicy or however they might think it tastes.

Along side this our book of the week is Handa's Surprise where lots of cheeky animals keep taking the different fruits from Handa's basket. I wont tell you what happens at the end as I wouldn't want to spoil the surprise :)

Here are some photos of our Little Leaders during their fruity activity.

Hello Everyone!

Please see our Ofsted report where we were graded a "GOOD" on our Inspection in December 2019 for Little Leaders Nursery Stonegrove, Edgware.

https://files.ofsted.gov.uk/v1/file/50140918

A few of my favourite part that showcase my wonderful team are:

"Staff prepare children well for the next stages
of their learning and development, including starting school."

" Children's behaviour is good. Staff only have to give a gentle reminder to help them put toys away as the children respond well to instructions."

"Managers and staff plan and provide a stimulating educational programme that helps children to acquire new knowledge and skills. They ensure that the learning stems from children's interests and meets their individual needs. This motivates children to learn. For example, when children showed interest in farm animals, staff provided good opportunities for children to name animals and to learn about the sounds they make. "

"Staff communicate closely with parents to keep them informed about their children's learning and development. They involve parents in planning the next steps. Parents comment that their children look forward to coming to the
nursery and learn well"

This was our first inspection since opening at Little Leaders Stonegrove. We are working hard to fine tune and develop the nursery so next time round we will reach that golden grade of Outstanding.

Little Leaders Edgware nursery have been busy today!

(Please excuse the blurry photos as these children are very quick so we had to take action photos in motion!)

Today we have been painting our feet and our hands and walking along the paper. As children start mark making and writing they need to build the strength in their arms to control their movements.

So the older children took part in "wheelbarrow painting" where an adult holds the child's legs/ waist up depending on their strength and the child walks their hands along the paper having to hold their weight up as they go!

The children found this very funny! one child asked if they could then use their feet so of course we then did this again but walking across!

Spaces are starting to fill up fast now so don't miss out.

Here are some photos of our children. .

The children have been enjoying taking part in many activities from cutting and sticking to reading stories the children have been having so much fun.

One child come into nursery talking about different types of buildings/ houses so we spent time looking at pictures of different buildings. Flats, bungalow, semi- detached, terraced, caravans and more! We then used the big blocks to recreate our own homes.

Well done to all of our little ones who continue to surprise us each and every day.

Here are some pictures of our Little Leaders at Stonegrove making a refreshing Strawberry and Banana milkshake for a very hot day!

The children really enjoyed cutting the fruit, pouring the milk and popping it all into the blender.

Today we did not measure using numbers but estimated what ingredients we should put in and how much. We didn't have 5000 pints of milk so the children decided they should just fill the blender to the very top with milk.

Throughout the activity we spoke about how the fruit felt , looked, smelt and tasted,

Once all wizzed up and blended together the children enjoyed their milkshake. They found it very funny when I pointed out that one child had a milky moustache they might need to clean up after and then all the children laughed together and asked if they too had a milky moustache on their face too!

Well done children!

The children have been doing lots of cooking recently and yesterday they helped to prepare their lunch by chopping the courgettes.

When children feel a part of the preparation and cooking process this encourages them to try new foods and talk about healthy foods.

Cooking activities also give us another opportunity to talk about good hygiene and making sure we are washing our hands well before starting the prep. We also wash our vegetables to ensure they are also clean and talk about why we do this too.

This is one of the childrens favourite activities our little chefs love to cook!

Our little artists showing their creativity!

Today some of our children have decided they would like to create rainbows straight after their breakfast this morning.

We let them choose how they would like to create them and some children decided to go to the creative area to paint and others decided to go to the literacy table to draw them using pens and pencils.

Here at Little leaders Stonegrove we offer children choice and independence so they were able to choose what media and materials it was they wanted to use, pick the paint colours they wanted to use and pour it into their paint palettes all by themselves!

Recipe of the week

It's looking to be a very hot week so I thought parents might love a recipe for some healthy ice lollies which they can enjoy making with their little ones.

*Strawberry milk pops*

400g ripe strawberry

200ml semi-skimmed milk
405g can light condensed milk

Method

1: Wash your strawberries

2: Hull strawberries and blitz in a food processor until smooth. Mix in milk and condensed milk.

3: Pour the mixture into 12 ice-lolly moulds and attach the tops. Freeze for a minimum of 4 hrs until solid. Warm the moulds with your hands or under warm water to release the pops. Will keep in the freezer for up to 2 months.

Not keen on Strawberry, what's your flavour? Maybe Mango, Peach or Pineapple?

Don't have ice lolly moulds why not saving your yoghurt pots and using these, you could pop a spoon in as the ice lolly stick.

This week the children have enjoyed baking we made lemon drizzle cakes one day, pancakes and sandwiches!

Involving children in the cooking process encourages them to try new flavours, new textures, new foods. This supports a healthy lifestyle and also is great for learning mathematics as you can talk with the children about measurements, what they think might happen at each stage and what actually does happen. We used timers while we waiting for the cakes to cook and the children cleaned and tidied up after themselves too!

Photos from Little Leaders Preschool's post 19/06/2020

A little experiment to show the children why we wash our hands...

- Pour some water in a plate or bowl
- sprinkle some pepper on the surface of the water.
- dip your finger in some hand soap or washing up liquid.

The pepper should move away from the child’s finger and then you can talk about how the pepper are the germs and how washing our hands helps to keep the germs away. Children love to experiment, it’s like magic to them.

WOW! I have to say I am truly amazed by what the One Stonegrove community trust has achieved. A massive well done to all the people involved in this project you have helped and made a big difference in many peoples lives during such a difficult time.

33,000+ MEALS DELIVERED TO DATE! What an amazing few months we've had with our food bank and community kitchen. As lockdown eases and the world begins to open up, we're reviewing our action plan and busy planning new ways to continue providing food to the most vulnerable people in our community because we know that our work is by no means done. Food poverty and hunger continues to be a HUGE issue in London and the UK. Keep a look out for updates from us on how we'll be doing this in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, we want to say THANK YOU to all those who have helped us achieve this result so far!

18/06/2020

Activity idea

Have you got a big box in your house or a delivery coming soon? Why not make your very own Puppet show theatre like we did at our nursery in Edgware.

cut out the puppet theatre and then let the children paint their box any colour they choose.

Why not name your theatre after your child or your family name.

Once dry you and your child can take it turns to tell a story using puppets, teddy bears, toys from around the house, dolls and anything your child may want the story to be about.

You can try to follow a story like Dear Zoo or you can make up your own! Endless hours of fun and entertainment. Why not even get some snacks turn the lights out and shine a torch onto the theatre for special effects.

Have fun and remember to send us your photos so we can see how much fun you are having :)

This week our children have been making this lemon drizzle cake which they were then able to have for their lunch time pudding.

The children enjoyed measuring and mixing the ingredients themselves talking about quantities and using lots of mathematical language throughout.

Here is an easy recipe for you to try at home with your little ones.

Ingredients needed:

225g unsalted butter, softened
225g caster sugar
4 eggs

225g self-raising flour
finely grated zest 1 lemon

For the drizzle topping
juice 1½ lemons

85g caster sugar

Method:

Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4.

Beat together 225g softened unsalted butter and 225g caster sugar until pale and creamy, then add 4 eggs, one at a time, slowly mixing through.

Sift in 225g self-raising flour, then add the finely grated zest of 1 lemon and mix until well combined.

Line a loaf tin (8 x 21cm) with greaseproof paper, then spoon in the mixture and level the top with a spoon.

Bake for 45-50 mins until a thin skewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean.

While the cake is cooling in its tin, mix together the juice of 1 ½ lemons and 85g caster sugar to make the drizzle.

Prick the warm cake all over with a skewer or fork, then pour over the drizzle – the juice will sink in and the sugar will form a lovely, crisp topping.

Leave in the tin until completely cool, then remove and serve. Will keep in an airtight container for 3-4 days, or freeze for up to 1 month.

Have fun Baking and we would love to see photos of your littles ones hard at work.

Early Talk Boost

Winsome and Afra from our Edgware nursery have attended Early Talk Boost training which supports children with their speech and language skills through fun games, activities and special books which children can take home to read with their families. All of the early talk boost sessions take place in small intimate groups in a quiet area in the nursery to allow children less distractions and more opportunity to speak. Here is a quick video to show you a brief overview of what it looks like.

Winnie's Chinese Lessons

Winnie our Lunch time cover speaks Mandarin at home with her own family and so is now doing weekly classes with the children at nursery to share her language with the children who enjoy learning new words.

Winnie uses a variety of tools such as our interactive screen, musical instuments and other props and resources to teach the children Chinese in a fun and exciting way.

We also share videos with our parents so that they can continue this learning at home with their children and share in their child's learning.

Here is a video for you to see a short snipper of one of Winnie's special classes.
