The Department for Education has published a new guide for parents/carers: 'What to expect in the Early Years Foundation Stage' (this is replacing the old 'What to expect when' guidance we have previously given out to our parents/caters)

The document aligns with the new Development Matters which we follow and aims to help early educators engage with our parents/carers about their child’s development.

School Readiness

Jesters Ethos on preparation for school is at the heart of everything we do with the children, not just when they turn four. We nurture them from the time they start with Jesters to feel safe in their early years environment.

We promote learning through fun and play, we develop curiosity and gaining awareness of the natural world and a love of the great outdoors. We also equip children with essential knowledge through our cultural capital programme and ambitions calendar.

If your child starts school this September, here's a useful link to ease the transition:

Teddy is going to school - TLC Talking about change and emotions with young children can be tricky. Sometimes it helps if the child has a teddy or other toy they can relate

Sensitive Periods- one of the five fundamental principles of the Montessori approach.

Montessori pedagogy (the method and practice of teaching) believes there are certain periods during which children are more ready to learn certain skills.

These are known as sensitive periods, and last only as long as is necessary for the child to acquire the skills. The order in which sensitive periods occur (i.e a sensitive period for writing) as well as the timing of the period varies for each child.

Through observation, our highly trained teachers and practitioners identify each child’s sensitive period and provide the resources for them to flourish during this time and use the observations to facilitate their all important ‘next steps’.

Find out more about the Montessori principles on our website: https://jesterskids.org/danbury/nursery-school/what-is-montessori/

The Montessori teacher is a facilitator of learning.

In Montessori Education, the role of the teacher is to guide children in their learning without becoming an obstacle and without inserting themselves too much into the natural learning process. This is advocated at all Jesters settings already, not just Danbury.

Our teachers and practitioners encourage children to learn by placing the pupils rather than the teacher at the centre of the experience. They provide learning materials appropriate to each child after close observation in our specially prepared learning environments. Jesters have fantastic understanding of the unique child and of providing learning opportunities that match each child’s interests.

Jesters pride themselves with employing highly qualified and experienced staff with each setting having it’s own qualified teacher alongside our excellent childcare teams. At Danbury Nursery School the Nursery teacher will be trained to deliver a Montessori curriculum complimenting the excellent Jesters values and ethos.

If you missed our open morning on Saturday, take a look at some pictures taken inside the classroom.

Resources are carefully chosen to appeal to all five senses. We carefully choose authentic resources with use of natural and real-life materials and activities, in line with ‘Reggio’ and ‘Curiosity Approach’ across all settings- which have very similar principles to Montessori.

👩‍🏫 Here's another little piece of history we've unearthed about 'The Old School House' former days:

A Memory of Danbury Village School c1950 by Peter Came- local historian and former pupil of then 'Danbury Infants and Juniors School'.

"The school stood a short distance from Eves Corner in the centre of the village next door to the thatched cottage, the right hand side being occupied by Miss Chennels class which later became a library, and the left hand side was a private residence.

The headmaster at that time was Major Blandford, and the Headmistress Miss Chennells who was in charge of Year One throughout her life. Second Class was run by Miss Mizon, Third Mrs (Granny) Bowers of strict Victorian standards, then Fourth by Mr Girling, my favourite because he was 'one of us'.

At our school Major Blandford was very strict, but Mr Girling was always my favourite because he was so kind and made learning enjoyable covering all subjects including sport thoroughly enjoying his life of teaching and I have remembered him as a good friend throughout my life."

Jesters Childcare are so proud to be opening our first Montessori Inspired Nursery School, based at historic ‘The Old School House’. Jesters ethos is very much based on making learning enjoyable and we are inviting your children to join the Class of 2021.

Come to our OPEN MORNING on Saturday 31st July to see the the school, meet some of the team and to find out more!
