I'm 27 and work as a pharmaceutical laboratory QC Analyst. The majority of days after work I was exhausted from work combined with health issues and was not exercising at all.
I joined Unity Fitness through a family member on their referral scheme they offer at the beginning of June 2023. I used to be very athletic and compete years ago and always wanted to permanently get back into fitness and a routine, but never knew how to following a car accident in 2016.
I've never been a "gym person", always found it intimidating and overwhelming and stuck to solo and team sports. But Unity Fitness has changed that for me. Not only do I feel and look fitter and stronger in just over 2 months, but I notice an improvement mentality and with my confidence.
The volume or equipment is amazing so you have your own weights etc. almost every class, spacious, and the workouts provided are 4 per week changing every few weeks. This way you see you're improvements each week and also have a great variation keeping it from getting boring like going to a public gym can get.
I have met some amazing people (both coaches and members) that are welcoming, friendly and encouraging (and know how to boogie on a night on the town 💃🏻). I love being able to book my classes in advance and plan my week and also talk to coaches and other members whenever we want to (whether its taking accountability, sharing meal ideas or achievements).
The coaches themselves are top notch- the perfect balance of friendly while also seeing your potential and pushing you when you might not do that on your own. The community aspect of unity Fitness is a major bonus that I didnt expect. I don't go to the gym because I have to, I go because I want to 😁 ❤️

Some of you “want” to look better, feel better, move better.
But how many of you “really” want it?
If you say you want to change:
-excuses will have solutions,
-the priorities are reevaluated
-and you simply drag your arse to the gym when motivation is non existent.
Don’t get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable in clothes, going up the stairs, bending down to the ground.

For me, healthy is much more than saying I eat salads everyday. It’s the lifestyle we live, the choices we make. Being free from or managing aches and pains (with little medicine intervention). Having a healthy mind that plays no tricks, delivers high self esteem and productivity.

We had all levels of ability enter, not with competitiveness at the forefront of the mind but for the CRAIC!
There was a buzz within the gym, an energy that you couldn't easily replicate.
6:45am - kids are asleep. Her Husband arrives home from night shift.
7am - She arrives at the gym for 1 hour before she goes back to being a mum.
7 - 8am - She leaves her long to-do list outside the gym and focuses on what she physically and mentally needs.
During school term she exercises after the school run.
Summer time leaves little room for most parents. This lady is a credit to herself for making it work, getting up earlier and we must mention her supportive husband who waits for return before he can climb into bed after a long night at work.

Today is Monday and possibly the hardest day of the week to kick start that motivation, but it plays a huge part in the rest of our week!
Today and the rest of this week let's try some of these tips :
1. Remembering your "WHY". - When you kick off your week by remembering 'WHY' you started your fitness journey in the first place, your 'HOW' will become easier to find. Think back to the reason you wanted to start, 'to become stronger', 'to feel healthier', 'to have more energy' and this will inspire you, making that trip to the gym a little easier.
2. Learning from our previous week - Looking back, what could you do differently this week? If you missed a few sessions last week, try schedule and juggle things round to prevent it from happening again. If you feel you lost control over your eating, try identify the possible causes, maybe stress, lack of meal prep and try avoid those in the coming week ahead.
3.Planning Ahead - This is key to setting you up for a great week ahead. Try and book your classes in on a Sunday evening for the week and if you can, get straight in on Monday at some stage. Food planning is also important, try have a meal plan set and prep at the weekend if needs be, I for one struggle with this but know it can make a huge difference in your eating patterns, leading to snacking, quick fixes and takeaways as we haven't lifted anything out of the freezer.
Taking these few pointers will help you set the tone for the coming days. It helps give you the opportunity to start your week off right, if you say no to Monday, it's just as easy to say no to Tuesday, Wednesday and so on.

𝙒𝙝𝙮 𝙙𝙤 𝙬𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙢 𝙪𝙥 𝙗𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙖 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙤𝙪𝙩?
Warming up is an essential part of any workout, whether it's in a gym, going for a run or any other sports activity. It can benefit your overall performance and reduce the risk of injury. Here are 3 key reasons why warming up is so important:
𝟭. 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗜𝗻𝗷𝘂𝗿𝘆:
By gradually increasing blood flow to your muscles, warming up improves their flexibility, it also plays a big role in your delivery of oxygen and nutrients to your muscles. It helps your muscles become more elastic like and less prone to strains, sprains or muscles tears.
𝟮. 𝗘𝗻𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲:
By gradually elevating your heart rate and circulation, warming up prepares your cardiovascular system for the road ahead. This then leads to our body making sure we receive enough oxygen and nutrients, which will then in turn enhance our ability to perform. It also activates your nervous system, improving coordination and how you respond, as well as leading to better strength, power and agility.
𝟯. 𝗠𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
Warming up is not only about your body, it's also about your mind. We shift from a state of relaxation to being more focused on the upcoming activity. It also helps reduce stress, anxiety and other distractions we may have carried in with us. We release endorphins, which are natural mood enhancers, leading to a more enjoyable workout and starting us off with a Postive mindset to reach those goals.
So all in all, spending a few extra minutes on a warm up can significantly make a difference to your overall performance and safety. So before you think about skipping your warm up next time, remember these key reasons. Your body will thank you for it!
If you can't do a 60 minute workout, make it 30.
If you can't do 5 days, do 3.
If you don't have an hour to cook something healthy, make a simple meal in 20 mins.
Small steps are better than none!

But we all know that it doesn't just happen over night either.
We could do 1-2 sessions a week and then drop out for a couple weeks and then come back to the gym when we're feeling bored or feel 'awk I have to'. But that is going to get us no where.
We have to put the hard work in and make it consistent.
You want more energy? You need to be consistently exercising and getting 7+ hours sleep every night.
Consistency is Key! Without it, those goals you have in mind, will be much more difficult to reach.

Jenny joined us a year ago this week and is still continuing on her journey with us. She has made incredible progress and continues to show strength and endurance throughout.
By using our 3D Body Scanner within the gym, we have been able to keep track of Jennys measurements and progression throughout. Within Jennys first 3-4 months she lost an amazing 12lbs Fat Mass and gained 4.9lbs of muscle. 💪🏻 Jenny seen and felt the changes in her self and decided to continue her journey with us, here's a few words from Jenny herself.

January is nearly over, the winter blues are coming to an end! 🥶❄️
Motivating yourself for exercise in winter can be so difficult, when the days are shorter and the weather is cooler it's tough to get up and go.
But we all know once we complete a session, we feel like we've accomplished so much. No matter how much we wanted to curl up on the sofa until the cold weather had disappeared, we know that exercise can really help shake those winter blues.💪🏻

*KEEP LOOKING FORWARD*
This morning I flicked back to an old photo from 2019 when we had the bare minimum for equipment. I had no idea how to run a gym as I'd only ever rented space and had a smaller collection of clients.
But I decided to stop and give myself a pat on the back - I have survived the first few years through some of the hardest times. I reminded myself that we've grown as a gym family and I'll be honest, our wee gym is pure class!!!
It is important to remember that life will not always be a smooth ride. It can be bumpy, which throws you off course. However, you learn from it, you change, you pivot, you evolve.
I am forever thankful to all the people we have coached. I actually checked today that we have onboarded around 400 clients into our facility. Thats 400 individuals we've taken the time to engage, educate and hopefully positively impacted their lives.
Remember to keep pushing, keep hoping and..

Exercise is so important, but so is recovery! 💪🏻
Few quick pointers:
▶️ Hydration is key to recovery. Without enough water in your body, you won't be able to bounce back as quick. It's difficult for your body to normalise blood pressure and stabilise your heartbeat without it.
▶️ Sleep is a must! It allows our bodies to repair it's muscle tissues which then prevents any injuries from occuring.
▶️Nutrititon- consuming the best foods possible for quicker recovery. Foods that can be beneficial in this process are things like, protein powder, Greek yoghurt, whole wheat pasta or rice and chicken. These will provide nutrients which wil help with muscle building.
▶️ Deep stretching and foam Rolling. These reduce DOMS (Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness), they increase the blood flow which speeds up the recovery process.
Next time, after one of your tough sessions, why not give some, if not all of these a try and let us know how quickly you recover!

Superman…. I mean Paul, is flying into 2023 with determination. After some down time with the family over Christmas he was back last week with his arms flying high… 🦸♂️.
In December all gyms see the highest levels of drop outs.
Well it’s January and we are ready to get you back into shape. The first part of the process is simply sending us a message 📩.

Such a simple quote, but so effective and true. It's easy for us now going into the New Year with the 'What Ifs' and 'I should have' attitude. But as it says, you're not going that way, you're going forward. ➡️
I know the whole phrase 'New Year, New You' is cheesy but we get to decide how we are going to live this year for our Physical and Mental Health. We get to leave whatever mistakes we made in 2022 behind and start fresh. Start with the right mindset that is going to change your life forever. 💪🏻
You could be wanting to attend more sessions than you did last year, up your weight in the gym, Lose some body fat, build more muscle or just wanting to begin your fitness journey.

Lorraine brought the festive spirit to this mornings Christmas workout, along with many others.
On the run up to Christmas, workouts start to decrease, motivation dips and the amount of last minute jobs keep rising.
We are very thankful to all our members who took time out of their hectic Christmas Eve plans to spend 1 hour with us. We had a good ole laugh and a glisten of sweat was seen throughout!

Your glutes are on fire!
As we quickly approach Christmas, our members are leaving no muscle to rest. Although come the 25th, it will only be the breast muscle ( ..of turkey 🦃) being attacked!!
3 days left to shed those calories and make room for the protein and spud dinner of the year!

Our Andy knows the craic when it comes to fitting in training around a busy schedule - he keeps showing up and grinding away, even when its baltic!
December is when we hear all the excuses of the day and attendance drops off. We don't expect big results during this month, instead we ask our members to maintain everything they've worked towards across the year.
January 2023 brings a fresh new programme and a tonne of energy. You turn up and we will take care of the rest.
